"Damn," Kitty whispered. "Let me guess. She's connected to the tree somehow, isn't she? Like... a Mother Nature power? What's her name? And oh, hi, sorry, I'm Kitty..."
There was another snapping sound.
Shit.
"The only plan I have is going in, holding on to her and phasing'" Kitty blurted, aware that time was short. "As long as she's in contact with me, she's fine. I can hold my breath for almost four minutes. If the tree gives way while I'm in there, she'll be fine. Got that?" She looked particularly at the young man. Poor guy.
"I'll bring her out, okay?" She glanced quickly around the kitchen and the suite beyond. "In fact, I think we all might have to get out of here. I'll phase her straight down, straight down and find a safe spot. Can you guys get there without me or should I phase you, too?"
Kitty took a deep breath. "Okay, so I'm talking fast, here. Have you followed what I'm saying?"
