What: This is what awful pick-up lines gets you. Not bad.
Where: Bar Prague, London
When: Tonight, 9 o'clock
Warnings/Rating: TBA
Spending the weekend in a hotel was one of the more enjoyable precautions Bertie was currently taking to support the fiction of his life in Dublin. He could never bring anyone back to his London flat, of course, without them noticing immediately that he lived there (and probably wouldn't have done so anyway, as it was a generally unimpressive sort of place), and preferred not to have to risk explaining why he was taking the bus out to Leyton, of all places, on his way home. A central hotel was expensive, but a necessity - or so he liked to tell himself. He'd also got in the somewhat ruinous habit of treating himself very well in the days running up to and immediately following his transformations, and so living above his means was as much a routine as brushing his teeth in the morning.
And anyway, he was rather banking on bringing someone back tonight, so it was an investment well-made.
He settled into the bar a bit before nine, ordered himself a beer, and started practicing his story on the bartender, switching in Muggle details where appropriate. He'd packed mostly business clothes, but looked as though he'd had a long day of it - loose tie, carelessly rumpled shirt, jacket and scarf tossed over the back of his chair and sleeves rolled to the elbows. Convincing enough, he thought, for what he was hoping would be a purely social evening. He'd stopped himself from looking forward to it too much, because - well, he didn't know what she looked like, did he, even if he felt like he probably could have talked shop with her for hours - but between this meeting and his lunch tomorrow, this weekend seemed very promising indeed.
