The Gaurdian at the Gate
Who: Shannon Corey and Julia Ridvan
What: Girl Time!
When: Monday, Early Evening
Where: The Bookstore!
Rating: Low
Status: Incomplete/Closed

Having gotten done with her work at the hotel early, and not having any readings scheduled for the day, Shay found herself with free time. Which was why she had spent some time playing with her Faeries Oracle and getting frustrated with it. Really, this was why she didn’t use it all the time, because of the headaches it could induce by not being cooperative. But then, as always, just as she had been about to give up on it the deck gave her something.

The Guardian at the Gate wasn’t a card she pulled on herself often, if at all. Oh, she knew what it meant, as it was something that occasionally came up for others. It spoke of things she really wasn’t sure on, since it was such a vague kind of card. Or, well, vague when you didn’t know what it pertained to. But, as she sat there looking at the card, she just couldn’t bring herself to pull another on it. And, after a moment of pondering over the stack of cards sitting off to the side, wondering why she couldn’t bring herself to pull another, she sighed and placed the card back on top.

And then she was packing up, feeling the need to get outside. She put the cards in their bag, grabbed up the book, and leaving her iPod behind she left her apartment. Like always, she didn’t have a plan on where she was heading. She rarely planned on going to see someone or go somewhere on days like this. Instead she just went where her feet took her. And her feet, bare of her sandals as usual, took her right to the bookstore. She smiled as she opened the door and stepped inside, eyes immediately seeking out Julia.

“Oh, Jules…”

At seeing her friend lost in thought Shay could not help but smile even wider. Obviously work wasn't being too bad for her, which was good, because Shay wanted to visit. And visiting meant talking, and hopefully not being interrupted by customers and strangers. Thankfully, no one else was in the store, and the big boss person wasn't in the store, another plus since shay did not have on shoes.

"What? Can't I look gorgeous just because," she asked, teasing as she did a little spin. She then practically skipped up to the counter and leaned up on it so she could get close enough to place a kiss of Julia's cheek.

"So, how is work going? As boring and dead as it seems to be?"

Julia couldn't help but admire Shay's outfit. Her friend looked very much like a fire goddess, and it was a contrast to her own short blue jumper dress with a white plastic belt, patterned knee socks and wedge sandals. It didn't exactly match, but it worked for her.

"Of course you can!" was the reply as she returned the cheek kiss, then she looked around at the store. "Yeah, it's been dead all day today. It usually is on Mondays, though." She moved just enough to step out from behind the counter, smoothing her hands over her short skirt. "How was work for you? More exciting than this, I hope?"

As her friend stepped out from behind the counter Shay turned so she could lean back against it, card bag dangling from her hand. "And, and don't you look gorgeous! Ugh," Shay shook her head forlornly. "You redheads, you can pull of blue in a way the rest of us can only dream of." And really, it was the truth. There was just something about redheads and blue that just went together.

"Oh, you know work. Cleaning, dealing with the ghosties, nothing special. So I'm afraid it was about as exciting as here." She then paused for a moment, head tilting to the side and causing her thick, curly hair to tumble over. "Though maybe you could help me with something? I know you're not much into cards, but then I could just need a sounding board."

"What, this? I bought it at Goodwill for a steal," Julia confessed, even though it was no secret that she would purchase almost all of her clothes at thrift shops. Still, the jumper was in very good condition and looked almost new, and it flattered her figure quite well. "But your outfit! I only wish I could look as good in orange as you do." Which she meant wholeheartedly. She adored Shay's fashion sense and the way her friend would present herself.

It was then that she noted the card bag, and she couldn't hold back a smile. She liked cards, although she didn't read them, and she wasn't as much of an enthusiast as, say, Eric was. However, that didn't ever stop her from wanting to know more about it. "Of course! I don't mind at all. What's happening?"

Shay chuckled a bit. Really, she was not one to judge about that. And if she was really being honest, she'd admit how jealous she was of girls like Julia who could pull that look off. It just fit her, and Shay knew that if she ever tried to wear what Julia did she'd fail miserably. "Honey, you're taste is nothing to shake a finger at. You rock that outfit in a way I never could."

But then tarot talk distracted her. "Well," she began, getting as serious as Shay ever got. " To be honest, I'm just curious as all hell about what this card could mean, and have no way of clarifying it." As she talked she opened the bag and reached in, pulling the card in question out and holding it out to Julia. "The deck is being difficult and not working with me willingly. So there is no option of drawing another card on it right now."

Julia was about to comment on how years of hand me downs and having to jazz them up was what truly inspired her style, but her thoughts were steered away from fashion and towards the cards. Julia wasn't mediumistic, but she was a healer, and knew that it all came from Spirit in the end.

She looked at the card that Shay held up, studying it, and then looked at her friend. "What is its textbook meaning?" she asked, wanting to be sure before she even tried to venture a guess as to why her friend could possibly have drawn this particular card.

Shay paused for a moment, going deep in thought as she pulled the card meaning from deep in her mind. One thing she loved was her ability to remember the meanings of her cards. Sure, sometimes it took her some time to filter through and get to them, but it was a plus during moments like this. So, eventually, she had the card pinned down.

"It speaks of new opportunities and new openings... may lead to a physical, journey, a mental or emotional one, or a journey of the spirit. It always leads to adventure, and it is a significant change. One that changed the person or people involved. It may not seem to important to them at the time, but it is important, the decision that spurs them on.

Going through the gate is no small thing, mind you, as such a thing never should be. It is, basically a new phase of life. It can pertain to me, or to me helping someone else go through this. However, I get the feeling it is both. Which is odd, and what has me wondering and much too curious."

And all the while, as she spoke, she moved. She shifted on her feet, rocked from side to side slightly, and motioned with her hands. Normally, shay was still, with her movements long, languorous and graceful, but right now it was as if she was charged with energy. It was, however, a state of being those who knew her had come to relate to using the Faeries Oracle, as it always seemed to make her as flighty and eager to move as the fey themselves.

Julia listened closely, noting the way that her friend moved and the animated way that the other woman spoke, and couldn't hold back her smile. She could literally feel the energy flowing from her friend, charging up the immediate area, and it was certainly contagious.

She looked thoughtful as she processed this new information, her brow furrowed as she sorted it out in her mind. Then she finally smiled again, since she now got it.

"Well, from where I stand, I can't see where this would be a negative thing," she began, choosing her words in a conscientious manner. "After all, life is a journey. If it does indeed pertain to someone else, it could be that you're supposed to help them advance in their own journey, while doing the same with your own. I could be way off, but it seems positive to me," she stated, pausing when she was done as she tried to read Shay's reaction.
