Building things, breaking down things
Who: Bea and Raj
What: How to make an anti-social creature halfway human
When: Friday, mid-afternoon
Where: An old brownstone undergoing rehab a block down the street from Vicious Fist Tattoos
Raj straightened and ran his left forearm over his forehead, careful of the wide leather bands at his wrists, knowing that he should have reached instead for the bandana in his back pocket. He was only going to further smudge himself with sawdust and sweat. But to reach back would have been to release his focus for more than an instant and that had always been something he failed at. He had a job at hand and those big hands of his needed to keep getting onwards with it. The sander beneath his right hand still felt warm from the punishment it had been delivering to the door propped on sawhorses in front of him.
Tilting his neck back, Raj quietly enjoyed a brief moment of pause beneath the bright sunshine. His latest job was turning out quite satisfactory, he thought. It wasn't a complete build, just a remodel, but the owner had taste and wanted a return to the old brownstone's former glory. No pointless removal of walls for "open floor plans" or bizarre use of stainless steel or poured concrete. Just good old-fashioned materials and attention to detail. Raj liked this and had personally taken over the finer aspects. For the moment, it was just him and the house and his power tools. His crew had been given the afternoon off.
He let a smile flit over his face, perfectly content with the world. Then he lowered his dark head again and ran a broad hand over the door to test the smoothness. Nearly there, he thought.
