Where: The new Great Hall
When: Lunch 14 October, 2025 [ PREDATED FOR TOMORROW]
Summary: Jamie tells everyone about the battle
James had made sure that everyone was here, even security personnel. It was the first time that every single habitant was present in one room. If that wasn't enough to raise suspicion, he didn't know what was.
He had thought long and hard about what he was going to say. He couldn't withhold the information about the spell, because without that, their actions made no sense, but he wouldn't dwell on it either. The point was to make them believe that in less than twenty four hours, they would win this battle and the war.
"If I could have everyone's attention," he started, waiting for people to quiet down. "I'd like to start by saying that it's been an incredible honour to work and train with all of you. On the eighteenth of June, we arrived here with no purpose other than to survive another day. Since then, we have forged our own little society, becoming independent from the outside, working hard to provide for everyone here, reaching out to the outside and helping those that needed our help, training until we were too tired to move so we could learn to protect ourselves and others.
"I know that there were days when it seemed useless, when it was just another day under the rain, but we've faced hard times, attacks, moments that have shown us that nothing we've done was useless. Every drill, every spell, and every lesson has prepared us for what's to come for the final battle that will lead to the demise of Riddle and his supporters."
James stopped letting everyone grasp what he was saying, before starting again. "The last battle. People have always talked about the Last Battle of Hogwarts. I've grown up hearing the words and imagining what parents had felt: excitement, anticipation, fear. Nothing I pictured comes close to what I'm feeling now, what I know we all must be feeling. This is our last battle. It's our turn, although for some it's not the first time, to defeat this evil.
"Why now? I know you must be wondering that. Several reasons. First, the additional spells that Albus cast are failing under the constant offensive spells that Riddle is casting. We don't think that they will last much longer. When the spells go down, Hogwarts' ancient spells would still be intact, and they'd probably last for a while, but we can't be sure of that Riddle as the new Headmaster wouldn't be able to at least come in or how long it would take for him to destroy them when he does nothing but that." He didn't point out that the man should be using his time to do something a little more constructive.
"Second, we have trained to the best of our abilities. While extended time would improve everyone's skills, continued isolation would put a stress on all of us. Last, but not least, it's time that we all get back to our lives and do the things we want to do. For all of these reasons, we have decided that we will decide when and how this battle will be fought.
"Tomorrow, at dawn, we will create a hole in the spell work and open the gate, make them think that it's their doing. We will let them come in by the gate and we will ambush them. It won't be easy and there will be casualties, but we will win. We need everyone to give us their best for one last time before we can have our freedom back.
"In terms of actual strategy, after lunch you will receive your assignments. Severus will be in charge of the rear, Alastor of the front, Kingsley has the West side, and Marlene has the East. I'll be in charge of aerial and Uncle Charlie will lead the dragons. Sunrise tomorrow is at 7:46. All minors will report to the school room at 6:45 where they will be taken to an undisclosed location by guards. We are sending private house elves and not the school house elves with them. In case, the war is lost, the children will have guards a chaperone and house elves to take them out of the school and out of the country.
"Everyone else is to report here at 7:00. From here, we'll go over any last moment details and move out. Today, everyone has the day off. Security will be given a modified schedule. We'll be working with a skeleton crew until tomorrow to give everyone the chance to spend time with their families and loved ones."
James looked over the room smiling. "I'm sure plenty of people before me have stood up and spoken words of appreciation and encouragement. I know my father did and Albus before him. I'm also certain that they could have inspired you as the leaders they were, but I'm not them; I'm one of you. I don't have great knowledge; I'm not the Chosen One. I'm a wizard who has worked hard to survive, fought obstacles, trained hard, just like all of you have, and I know deep in my heart that tomorrow we will stand together and we will win. On behalf of Alastor, Severus and myself, I want to thank you for everything you have done and will do tomorrow." He looked at Alastor and grinned, before adding something that hadn't appeared in his original speech. "And to celebrate this occasion, the house elves are bringing out the wine. Enjoy, people, and get ready to kick some arse."
