Summary: Marlene finds another one of Ridde's hidden places
Since the night at the cemetery, Marlene knew that she was on the right track. The memories and treasures belonging to Lord Voldemort were hidden in the Muggle world. She had narrowed the timing to the late 60s, 72 at the most. It made sense that he would go into the Muggle world. No one knew he was the son of a Muggle and no one would have looked for anything there. This research would also be more important than the earlier one, more accurate. These would be the memories after years of research and experiments. Magic that could hurt more. Marlene was sure that there would be even more powerful magic protecting it, something that the Muggles wouldn't catch, but she would.
With the help of two Muggleborn Aurors, they had narrowed down the Muggle places that could have any significance for Voldemort, and then she began visiting them, checking for any sign of magic, dark or light, active or latent. She didn't want to miss anything. She went to the Riddle house even if she knew that it was unlikely. It was the first and shortest visit, before moving on. This afternoon, she found herself where the old orphanage used to be. It was a store block now, shops and offices lined up with nothing to remember what used to be.
There was a small dark alley on one side. She walked there and soon her tracking spells told her that she was on the right track. She followed the magic, Apparating in the cellar of one of the shops. It was filled with crates, but they didn't hold her interest. No, there was an old furnace in the corner that reeked of magic. When she got closer, something on the wall caught her attention. She used magic to get rid of the dust and then she could see words scratched into the stone, names, fears. She looked at the furnace again, and there were marks on it as well. An orphanage, children being kept here, possibly being punished, tied here. For a moment, her heart ached for that boy that would become the most feared Dark wizard. At least it's warm had been written at one point. How terrible! She was absorbed in studying everything around her that she almost missed the noise of the Apparition and she turned, wand lit, trying to find the exact spot where the person was.
