Summary: Sirius comes for dinner
Lily showered as soon as she returned home from work, and dressed casually in a long, gauzy spring dress. She pulled her hair back in a braid, but didn't bother with make-up. It was just Sirius coming for dinner, not as if they were having a party. And as James wasn't home, she didn't have to worry about him coming in and getting in her way. Hopefully he would be home in time for dinner. She had a feeling whatever Sirius wanted to talk about, James would want to be there for.
She didn't have the chance to cook much, but when she did she liked the kitchen to herself. That way she could make as big a mess as she wanted, with no smart comments from her audience. And she didn't have to tolerate James' attempts at helping, which mostly included making more work for her, and stealing bites of food as they went. Which, she had to admit, was sometimes half the fun.
She'd decided on roast chicken, with veg though both James and Sirius might groan about it, and a peach cobbler for dessert. And they'd never have to know that she'd picked up the cobbler at a sweet little bakery, because she'd already transferred it to a gorgeous serving plate. She hummed to herself as she scrubbed the potatoes, the smell of the roasting chicken already had her stomach growling.
James still wasn't home by the time the dinner was done, and she frowned. Hopefully the man hadn't gotten himself in any trouble, though she wouldn't put it past him. This was James Potter she was thinking about. She washed her hands off, set everything under a warming charm and was just pouring wine when she heard the door open. Smiling, she moved to the entryway to see Sirius making himself at home.
"You know, you don't live here anymore. The polite, well-bred thing to, would be to knock," she teased, looking to see if James had come in with him. He wasn't and she sighed. "And where is that mangy husband of mine? Did he get called out to a last minute job? She wondered if Sirius would know better than she, as James hadn't sent word that he'd be late.
