RP:James, Tom aka Voldemort
Who: James, Tom (and Sirius?)
Where: Puddlemere United vs. Falmouth Falcons Game, River Piddle in Dorset, England
When: 28 December, 2024
Rating/Warnings:
Summary: James and Tom have another encounter

James had convinced Sirius to go to the game. Convinced was probably the wrong word considering that Sirius loved Quidditch as much as James did, and he hadn't been at a professional game since before Azkaban.

The game was an exciting one, at least if you were a Chaser, but if you were waiting for the Snitch, then you would have been disappointed. After over three hours, there was no sign of the golden ball.

James patted Sirius' knee. "I'll go get drinks and food. I'll be back soon." He got up and left his seat in search of something edible. He was walking through the crowd when he thought he saw Voldemort. He looked again and there was nothing. Paranoia at his best, he decided.

"You two!" Alastor shouted to two of the younger Aurors about to rush past him. "Get over to the south exit now and help get that crowd under control. Getting people out is your first priority," he barked. "Ask questions later once hexes stop flying."

When the call had come in, Alastor had jumped to the scene, only to find himself in the middle of the wrong chaos. People were stampeding out, but he could see the real fight was too far away for him to get to from where he was. And, too many of the Aurors were heading that way instead of doing what they could here.

Grabbing whomever he could as they past, Alastor started shuffling them off to other tasks. They needed to cover all the exits, not just the ones near the disturbance and clear people out of there as fast as they could. It was unlikely those on the opposite side of the stadium would make decent witnesses in any case. Those that would were going to be trapped between the Ministry and Voldemort and easier to get to once it was over.

Knowing they weren't going to catch Voldemort like this anyway, he turned his attention to helping a witch and her two young children down from the stands and directing them to the nearest exit.

Dylan hated the new rules. From the moment the call came in he'd been wanting - needing - to leave, to get there, but trainees were quite rigorously held back. Arguing would do no good, Dylan knew that, but he wasn't an Auror for nothing and having spent too many summer days in this office he knew every nook and cranny. At first chance, he slipped by the Aurors still there, and Apparated straight to the site.

The chaos was complete when he arrived, Aurors and Hit-wizards and people who screamed all over the place. He spotted his father and ducked behind a wall not wanting to be stopped before he'd done something. As soon as Cass was busy, he set off trying to help wherever he could, while keeping an eye out for Jamie at the same time.

It was a shame he'd jumped forward in time. The technology powering his eye was likely advanced far beyond what he had -- Alastor would have to look into it. If it had been his time, this would have a perfect stress test for how much input he could take in at once as it revolved in the socket, checking the area for dangers, victims...

...and, it would seem, young trainees who thought they could sneak into the think of things.

"Vaisey!" He barked, casting a short-term charm to freeze the young man in his tracks only until Alastor had time to catch up to him. No sense freezing the young man too long and letting him get trampled. "Just where do you think you're going, Trainee?"

He swore as the sound of Moody's voice reached him, wanting to swear more when he found himself frozen to the spot. When he could move again though, he wasn't prepared to just give up .

"To do my job, sir," he answered, praying his father wouldn't catch him there. "Look, it's chaos, you need everyone you can get a hold of. I won't go after Voldemort, I promise, I'll just need to do something other than sit around the office and wait. Please, let me just do my job and find Jamie. I need to know that he's OK."

"Please, sir. I won't take needless risks." Which was what he really wanted to do. Apparate right into the thick of it and stand shoulder to shoulder with Jamie if he needed him to.

Alastor crossed his arms, the two inches or so difference in their heights doing nothing to diminish the air of intimidation he was going for. He had to give the young man credit for pluck. It could get him killed, but he got some credit for loyalty to his friend.

Eyeing Vaisey curiously, Alastor weighed his options. If he let the boy go with orders to return to Headquarters, he could just slip back in through another entrance. Alastor was very familiar with Potters and the loyalty they inspired in their friends. He could keep the boy here in this quadrant and make sure he was useful and far away from the action he wasn't supposed to take part in. Reprimands could be left to Potter, later.

"You do realise I'm well within my rights to make your life a living hell for disobeying a direct order, Vaisey?" Sending a cushioning charm under a child about to fall over the rail behind them, he continued to stare "down" Vaisey with his good eye.

He had to admit he was impressed by the magic, and in any normal situation he'd be dying to ask questions about that eye. This was not a normal situation though and he couldn't be distracted.

"Yes, sir," he answered, standing his ground. "I still want to help. This is why I'm an Auror, not to hide in an office when my friends are risking their lives and people are in danger."

"I can do this, sir. Give me half a chance to prove it."

"As long as we understand each other." Alastor resisted the urge to smirk at the kid's gumption. "Very well, this is how this is going to go. You are going to use the Christmas gift I happen to know a very nice werewolf gave you to call Potter -- and only Potter -- here."

It was up to Potter the second or Dumbledore to call the Order. At this juncture, there was no purpose in calling any of the rest Lupin had told him were connected to those pendants when he asked for help with the tracking charms embedded in them. Thankfully, Lupin's concern for the young men also gave them an easy way to circumvent official channels of communication in cases where Moody didn't really want to have to haul the kid into Potter's office or hex him out of frustration.

"You will not leave my presence and you will not use official channels to announce your unauthorised presence, either. Once You've seen Potter is whole, you and I will take a walk down to the south exit to help in evacuating the crowd. Is that clear," he growled.

It was a very close call for Dylan not to do a sign of victory as Moody spoke, but to actually keep rather professional. "Yes, sir," he said quickly, not able to keep the relieved grin from his face.

Moving quickly, he pulled out his pendant, said Jamie's name and called on him to come. He did not move, and had every intention of doing everything Moody told him in return for being allowed to work, but he needed to make sure Jamie was fine first. If he wasn't, all bets were off.

James felt the call through the pendant, and he groaned annoyed. Everyone seemed to want to talk to him, but he had more important things to do, namely finding Sirius. However, he knew that Dylan wouldn't forgive him if he didn't go.

He Apparated to where Dylan was, looking around, just in case there was trouble. "Hey, you okay?"

Dylan felt utterly relieved when he saw Jamie, and took a deep breath that nearly turned into a snort as Jamie asked. "Look who is asking," he said. "I'm not the one who has a maniac with a crush after me. Are you all right? What happended."

"He's totally in love with me," he said with a grin. "I'm fine, and I saw him, I ran after him. He tried to get into my head, I hexed him, and he's still alive. Couldn't bloody kill him. If I had, we'd all be sleeping easier.

James sighed. "Look, I'll give you all the details when we get home, but I need to find Sirius, make sure he's all right. Are you staying or are you going back to the office?" He knew what his father wanted him to do, but he wasn't going anywhere.

Dylan rolled his eyes, and backhanded Jamie's arm. "Next time consider not running after him, yeah? Or you know, alert me so I can get here to cover your back, right?" he said. "The pendant makes it easy."

He smirked. "And you know you can use it to find Sirius too. Or call him to you at least," he pointed out. "No need to make it harder on yourself." Though honestly he'd not thought of it if it wasn't for Moody's reminder. He was all for looking the old fashioned way.

"I'm staying," he then said, looking over at where Moody was working with coordinating everything. "Moody said I could work as long as I stay close to him, and it beats being back at the office any day of the week, so I'll be here."

"He was there. I wasn't about to let him go," he said, but then nodded, even though he had no intention of getting Dylan involved. Snape had made it clear that this would probably lead to his death. He was not dragging Dylan with him. Or Sirius.

"I don't like these things," he said. "If the other person is busy, then they have to leave whatever they are doing or worrying you. They don't work as well unless you're dying, and since I'm not dying, I'm not using it."

However there was something else he could, something he should have thought of before. He summoned his Patronus, the one thing he could do without even saying the words now, and sent it off with a message for Sirius. That would be much easier than the pendant.

"Touching that thing takes a second. Just call me next time. You'll know I'll back you up and you'll have more of a chance with me there. Hell I'll bring the department with me and you won't need to worry about calling it in on the watch."

He rolled his eyes as he watched his friend send off his Patronus. "Yes because that's much less noticeable," he said. "And how will he know where to find you?" he asked. "The pendant would have him here in a heartbeat."

"Yeah, okay. I didn't remember I had the bloody thing until it warmed out," he admitted. Not that he thought about using it in the future, but he wasn't about to tell Dylan that. If he needed someone, it'd be his father. Everyone else should stay away.

"I never said it's less noticeable, just less annoying," he said. "I don't need him here. As long as he knows that I'm okay and I know he's fine, we don't need to be in each other's pocket."

Dylan grinned. "Honestly, neither did I until Moody reminded me," he said. "And I didn't mean to stop you from looking but I had to know that you were all right. Besides, now you got a better way of finding out he's all right so you really should just be grateful that I'm so bloody brilliant."

Behind him he heard Moody growl again and he sighed. "I should go help, seeing how he allowed me to stay and all. I'll talk to you at home. Full details, you promised," he said as he headed off to follow Moody and helping with the evacuation of the crowd.

Sirius had been nearly ready to start casting hexes of his own until found James in the crowd of people - he was starting to think he really was going to have to tie him to the bed like Regulus had told him because it seemed like every time they went anywhere in public something like this happened. But then the Patronus came to him and it felt like he could breathe for the first time since this madness had started.

It was easier to find him after that, when he wasn't feeling nearly frantic with worry - an emotion he was getting to know all to well since having known James.

"Fuck, are you alright?" He asked when he found James hands on his shoulders. "You're not hurt are you?"

James was surprised when he saw Sirius arrive. The point of the Patronus was so that he would stop worrying, and not rush to find him, but he smiled when he saw his lover arrive there.

"Yes, I'm fine, and you should go home," he said, trying to resist the impulse to hug Sirius in public. That would be a really bad idea. "I'm not hurt. He didn't hex me. Snape even checked me over. Everything is okay, I promise, but you need to get away from here. Please. I have tons of reports to do, and I need and stop to see Snape, but I'll come home right after."

Sirius really wanted to hug James to feel for himself that he was alright, but he managed not to pull him against his chest - though it would be the first thing he did as soon as they were alone again. He breathed easier when James told him that even Snape had checked him out.

"There isn't anything I can do here?" He asked, he might not have been officially accepted as a hitwizard yet, but that didn't mean he didn't know how to help at times like this. "You're not planning on doing anything stupid are you? Because if you are I think I'll be staying."

"What? You don't believe me that I'm okay?" he said, smiling. He cast a quick confundo around them and he took Sirius' hand, squeezing it hard. "Really, I'm fine."

He knew that there was plenty that Sirius could do, but he wanted him out of here, which was very hypocritical on his part. "I... I'm sure they need help getting people out safely, making sure families are reunited, but if you stay, be careful. Please. He saw you in my head, and he won't know who you are, not yet, but if he sees you-" The idea terrified him a lot more than the possibility of dying. "I'm not going to do anything stupid, but you have to be careful. I still need to do those report and talk to Snape, but it won't take me long."

"I believe you." Sirius assured James easily, feeling better when James squeezed his hand - even that little bit of contact calming him.

"I'm always careful." He reminded James with an easy grin - he'd been seen by Voldemort, and he wondered just what he'd seen, how much he knew now. "He won't see me." He squeezed James' hand again. "You take care of things where you need to, I'll help out here and we'll meet back at the house yeah?" He wanted to kiss James but he could wait.

"And now you believe me a little more," he answered, because the contact did make things a lot better.

"Of course you are, just like me," he answered, laughing, before staring at his lover. "You'd better be careful or I'll have to kick your arse. We have a bike to pick up soon." He rubbed his thumb against Sirius' wrist, before letting go. "I'll see you at home."
