RP:James, Tom aka Voldemort
Who: James, Tom (and Sirius?)
Where: Puddlemere United vs. Falmouth Falcons Game, River Piddle in Dorset, England
When: 28 December, 2024
Rating/Warnings:
Summary: James and Tom have another encounter

James had convinced Sirius to go to the game. Convinced was probably the wrong word considering that Sirius loved Quidditch as much as James did, and he hadn't been at a professional game since before Azkaban.

The game was an exciting one, at least if you were a Chaser, but if you were waiting for the Snitch, then you would have been disappointed. After over three hours, there was no sign of the golden ball.

James patted Sirius' knee. "I'll go get drinks and food. I'll be back soon." He got up and left his seat in search of something edible. He was walking through the crowd when he thought he saw Voldemort. He looked again and there was nothing. Paranoia at his best, he decided.

Voldemort hated Quidditch. He despised it more than just about anything. He never understood why people enjoyed it or what the big deal was. But it kept the masses satisfied, so He would let it continue when He conquered the world.

As much as He hated the sport, Voldemort thought it would be a good idea to see what kind of people attended the games these days, and even more importantly what security was like. A large crowd could mean less security for prominent figures, which would make picking them off easier.

Wearing glamours and charms that kept His face concealed and gave people the suggestion not to look at Him, the Dark Lord waded through the crowd. His stomach revolted at the smell of concession-stand food. As He surveyed the crowd, He grinned when He saw His prey.

Walking parallel to James, Voldemort dropped the glamours and charms just long enough for the pest to get a view of the Dark Lord, before reactivating them and wading into an oncoming crowd once more.

James couldn't let it go. Maybe he was paranoid, and maybe that wasn't Voldemort, but he couldn't let it go. He needed to be sure.

He forgot all about the food, and started to move through the crowd. It was difficult when he had no idea where to go and what he was looking for. He could call it in, but the division was stretched so thin and he didn't want to waste time like he had at the Lighting Ceremony.

He went toward the wall, covering his back since he had no partner here. Invisibility cloak, his arse. He'd never have that thing at hand when he needed it. Snape would have to teach him to become invisible and quickly.

Is that him? He frowned, already moving in the direction where he thought he saw Voldemort.

Voldemort had imperiused a random person in the crowd, who walked up to James and said, "He says Turn Around." Meanwhile, Voldemort had double-backed so He was now about 20 feet behind James.

As James turned to look, He had just finished sprinkling a potion into the drink of a witch who wasn't paying attention. He waved the empty vial toward James, smiled, and then entered the crowd.

James turned around, wand in hand. He didn't cast any spells, not yet. He didn't want Voldemort to know what he was studying and with whom. He certainly didn't want the man to know that he could cast spells without his wand.

When he saw what he was doing, he cursed to himself. He ran toward the witch, and grabbed her glass. He showed her his badge. "Don't say anything to anyone. Get your family and leave," he said, trying to avoid full blown panic inside the stadium.

He went to the a side, and cast a confundo spell to keep people away before contacting the Ministry. They would start hating his messages from now on. He told them what was going on and then he was back through the crowd to look for the man.

Harry arrived at the match within seconds of the call, having only taken enough time to send his patronus to Dumbledore and Snape before Apparating. In spite of knowing better, he hoped that his son would have carried the cloak with him, or at least used a disillusionment charm or the glamours taught in the program. He arrived just in time to see the panic spread and as the Aurors deployed around the stadium, ushering people outside, trying to get statements, surrounding the area where Voldemort seemed to be, Harry, like his son, Apparated straight into the thick of it

On the one hand he knew he should take the same precautions that he wanted his son to take, show him by example instead of just telling him what to do. Yet, he also knew that seeing him there would put people's mind at ease even when there was no reason for it and that they'd never find Voldemort if the panic continued. As he ran, following people's directions and trying to glimpse Voldemort or Jamie, he settled on a wandless shielding spell, knowing it had saved him many times in the past. It wouldn't shield against the killing curse, but against almost everything else.

The instant Snape glimpsed the familiar stag Patronus, he feared the worst, summoning a tiny hailstorm of phials of combat potions as the Patronus began to speak. As soon as it had told him the location, Snape Disapparated.

He arrived, wand out, Speculumagia in place. He whirled at once to focus on the heart of the disturbance in the crowd, and sprinted toward it.

Adrenalin pushed his physical and magical senses to high alert, and as he ran he reached for the faintest hint of an unmistakable, unforgettable presence.

The chaos suddenly turned worse when a mass of green light started to erupt. For a fleeting moment Harry felt his heart stop, picturing his son falling pray to the curse, but then the screams got louder, and they saw the person casting the curse.

Setting off in the direction of the caster, he fired off a stunning spell in hopes that it would stop him before things got out of hand. He was too far away for the spell to be efficient however, and a protection spell cast prevented the effect. A second later the man was gone, vanished into thin air. He hadn't captured him, but he had stopped the meaningless slaughter.

"Secure the area," he yelled out to Aurors and hit-wizards closing in on the situation. "Get someone here to recover the dead."

Looking around, he tried again to spot Jamie or Voldemort but spotted Snape running in his direction instead. "Have you seen either of them?" he called out, not bothering with anything than the necessities at the moment.

The unmistakable green glare had Snape running toward it, shouldering aside panicking people who bounced off his shields, but too late, too late. Harry was much closer, close enough to fire without causing far too much collateral damage.

"Neither!" Snape barked in immediate response to Harry's call. His teeth were bared in a snarl and disappointment made his voice as harsh as his expression.

James wasn't losing him this time. He saw Voldemort rush out of an alcove, and he followed. It was becoming harder and harder to move through the crowd. People were screaming and running in all directions.

So foolish!

He moved, trying to concentrate on the vast sea of faces in front of him, when he felt it. This wasn't as subtle as Snape's second attempt, but not as blatant as the first. It was more... slimy, but enough to warn him.

Voldemort raised His wand and prepare the Killing Curse. The Boy-Who-Lived would be missing a son after today. As the boy drew near, Voldemort tried to peer into His mind, wanting to know if there was a reason worth kidnapping him instead.

"Someone's been teaching you to Occlude," He muttered. "Not doing a good enough job though."

He saw images of a tall, greasy-haired man, felt Jamie compare His legillimency attempt with another... Snape? Severus Snape is alive? Then He saw images of a young, black-wavy-haired man, naked and getting on his knees while licking his lips.

Voldemort stumbled backwards as a hex hit His shoulder.

James felt Voldemort push into his memories, and instinctively he protected what was most dear to him: his family and Sirius. Voldemort pushed further, trying to peer into his mind, and then he caught a glimpse of him and Sirius. James put his shield up, forcefully expelling Voldemort from his mind.

He cast the blasting hex right after the protego, but they were both imbalanced and he could only hit Voldemort's shoulder. He went to cast a second one, but before it could land, the man had Disapparated away.

He looked around, searched through the crowd, but there was no sign of him, nothing but the panic he had left behind.

Having figured out a direction, Harry didn't wait to run off. In any other case he would have taken the time by now to use more stelth, but this was his son that was in danger, and things like that could wait. He would rely on his spells for now.

He arrived in time to see his worst nightmare, Voldemort and Jamie face to face. Raising his wand he aimed, knowing that he only had a second and that his aim had to be perfect. Just before he'd cast the the stunner however, Jamie had hit Voldemort with a blasting hex and Voldemort was gone.

"Jamie," he called out, running up to his son and grabbing him, checking him over for hexes and wounds. "What happened?" He looked at where Voldemort had been, then around them to make sure he was not anywhere else. Before Jamie had time to answer him, he wrapped his arms around him and hugged him hard. "Merlin, I'll need to lock you up again because you're obviously intent on giving me a heart attack. Are you all right? Sure you're not hurt? Hexed?" Hell he couldn't go through that one more time.

Apparating as he got the call, Jasper appeared in the midst of a chaotic crowd, people were screaming, running in every direction and it was all he could do to stay firmly planted in one place. Taking on a commanding tone, he ordered the crush by the stadium exit to slow the hell down and file out carefully. They didn't need to add more injured to the already high total. He saw the bodies and he saw witches and wizards from his department trying to recover them.

Instinctively he sought out the press area, looking for a mop of unruly curls. Bryn was there, or should be, he only hoped he was safe. As more Hit-wizards joined him he left the crowd control to them. Jamie was out here somewhere and he just wouldn't be a very good partner if he didn't try and find him.

Ronan wasn't working, but when he heard about the attack, he Apparated to the stadium. He wasn't surprised to see that people were panicking, stampeding through the narrow passageways.

He helped a woman that had been separated from her children, before moving on. He saw Jasper at a distance and Apparated to where he was. "Do we know where's James?" He was going to lock that boy up soon enough.

'Haven't seen him.' Raking the crowd with his gaze he managed to pick out Harry through a brief gap. 'But I think his dad found him.' Glancing at Ronan, he decided to skip over the fact that his fellow werewolf wasn't even on duty. With Sir Dreadlocks, the job tended to come first and Jazz seriously doubted the man had been enjoying a relaxing bubble bath.

'The players weren't hit, they got inside without any problems. Unfortunately the crowd weren't so lucky.' Details would be what Ronan wanted. So that's what he'd get.

Ronan followed Jasper's gaze, and with the people moving everywhere, it took longer than usual to zoom in on them. "All right. He's safe." He really needed to talk to the boy soon.

He started to pay attention to what Jasper was saying. "All right, let's take this wing. Let's get anyone alone and able to Apparate to leave and then we deal with children and family. If you smell any of those werewolves, let me know immediately." It was unlikely, but he wouldn't put it past them to use this to cause even more damage. "Be careful."

"You two!" Alastor shouted to two of the younger Aurors about to rush past him. "Get over to the south exit now and help get that crowd under control. Getting people out is your first priority," he barked. "Ask questions later once hexes stop flying."

When the call had come in, Alastor had jumped to the scene, only to find himself in the middle of the wrong chaos. People were stampeding out, but he could see the real fight was too far away for him to get to from where he was. And, too many of the Aurors were heading that way instead of doing what they could here.

Grabbing whomever he could as they past, Alastor started shuffling them off to other tasks. They needed to cover all the exits, not just the ones near the disturbance and clear people out of there as fast as they could. It was unlikely those on the opposite side of the stadium would make decent witnesses in any case. Those that would were going to be trapped between the Ministry and Voldemort and easier to get to once it was over.

Knowing they weren't going to catch Voldemort like this anyway, he turned his attention to helping a witch and her two young children down from the stands and directing them to the nearest exit.

Dylan hated the new rules. From the moment the call came in he'd been wanting - needing - to leave, to get there, but trainees were quite rigorously held back. Arguing would do no good, Dylan knew that, but he wasn't an Auror for nothing and having spent too many summer days in this office he knew every nook and cranny. At first chance, he slipped by the Aurors still there, and Apparated straight to the site.

The chaos was complete when he arrived, Aurors and Hit-wizards and people who screamed all over the place. He spotted his father and ducked behind a wall not wanting to be stopped before he'd done something. As soon as Cass was busy, he set off trying to help wherever he could, while keeping an eye out for Jamie at the same time.

It was a shame he'd jumped forward in time. The technology powering his eye was likely advanced far beyond what he had -- Alastor would have to look into it. If it had been his time, this would have a perfect stress test for how much input he could take in at once as it revolved in the socket, checking the area for dangers, victims...

...and, it would seem, young trainees who thought they could sneak into the think of things.

"Vaisey!" He barked, casting a short-term charm to freeze the young man in his tracks only until Alastor had time to catch up to him. No sense freezing the young man too long and letting him get trampled. "Just where do you think you're going, Trainee?"

He swore as the sound of Moody's voice reached him, wanting to swear more when he found himself frozen to the spot. When he could move again though, he wasn't prepared to just give up .

"To do my job, sir," he answered, praying his father wouldn't catch him there. "Look, it's chaos, you need everyone you can get a hold of. I won't go after Voldemort, I promise, I'll just need to do something other than sit around the office and wait. Please, let me just do my job and find Jamie. I need to know that he's OK."

"Please, sir. I won't take needless risks." Which was what he really wanted to do. Apparate right into the thick of it and stand shoulder to shoulder with Jamie if he needed him to.

When Bryn had offered his plus one to Ben, he'd jumped at the chance to hang out with his best mate. It had been too long sicne they'd gone to a match, and he'd thought that after Bryn's ordeal a bit of normality would be just what he needed. He hadn't expected this though.

He looked around, not noticing the blood dripping down from a cut in his forehead. It was chaos around him, people screaming, smoke rising up. Unsure what had happened he looked for Bryn, spotting his friend several feet away. He made his way over carefully, relieved that the other man wasn't too banged up. He was more worried for his state of mind though.

"Bryn? You okay?" He tasted something metallic, and when he reached up his fingers came away tinged with blood. It didn't feel too bad though, and he definitely wasn't as badly off as some of the others around him.

His ears were ringing, there were flames and screams and smoke. What the hell was happening? Was it her? Was she here, had she done this? His mind flickered through each question in turn, thoughts spiraling out of control as his head pounded painfully. He was lying on his back, splinters of the wooden stand surrounding him. What had happened?

Rolling onto his side he pushed himself up off the ground, wincing as his wrist protested. Stupid torn ligament. That old injury would always haunt him, along with the other thing she did. He started as someone laid a hand on his arm and he pulled away, turning to stare into Ben's worried face. 'Oh...' His eyes went to the cut on his friend's forehead. 'Bleeding.' Searching his camera bag, he pulled out a tissue and pressed it against the cut. He didn't like blood.

Ben let Bryn take care of the cut on his head, knowing his friend needed something to concentrate on. "I'm okay," he said, trying not to wince at the pressure. He shifted, and felt something jar inside him, but ignored it. He wasn't going to worry Bryn by complaining about a bruise on his side.

He looked around, and saw that Aurors were arriving, though he didn't see Ronan. He was sure his lover was here though, but didn't let himself think about him too much, otherwise he would worry. Ronan didn't even know he was at the match; it had been a last minute decision, and Ronan had already been at work.

He pulled away from Bryn, and summoned a smile. "Some match, eh?" He kept his voice light and worry-free, though he was trying hard not to panic, or think about what had caused this. "We should see if anyone needs help."

Tending to Ben kept him from thinking about what had happened. He was getting better at distracting himself during a normal day. But this was not a normal day. Wiping a hand across his face, he gazed round at the destruction. Swallowing he nodded and half returned Ben's smile.

Biting his lip, he took hold of Ben's hand. 'Come on then, lets go and help some people.' Anything to keep his mind occupied.

Tonks popped onto the scene a little late, but that was only because she was busy trying to get her ass out of the shower without killing herself by tripping up.

Hair was wet, dripping wet, and black as pitch at the moment. She took a quick assessment and started herding out a few young teenagers who were horrified and mystified at the same time. Like watching a train wreck. "Go on then." Shooed them off to safety before she was looking for the next order of business.
