MINISTRY INSTITUTES 24-HOUR SURVEILLANCE NEWEST SECURITY MEASURES TO ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY Jeremiah Smith LONDON - Following riots and widespread panic in Ottery St Catchpole this weekend, the Department of Magical Law Enforcement will institute a 24-hour surveillance programme in magical villages and towns across the country beginning today. On Saturday 22 August, riots broke out in the famous wizard-Muggle settlement in Devon after the banned publication known as the Quibbler printed a libellous article about the Ministry of Magic. Unfortunately, the false accusations were taken seriously by several villagers who decided to engage in violent acts to 'protest' the documents, despite the fact that the DMLE found them to be forgeries following a full investigation. Mass hysteria and further unruly behaviour broke out in the village this past Monday in response to the escalating violence over the weekend before it was quickly put down by the DMLE with minimal casualities and no deaths. In order to prevent further disturbances of public order, the Ministry of Magic responded immediately earlier yesterday by organising 24-hour surveillance for the most potentially troublesome wizarding villages and spaces that have previously been the targets of terrorists. 'The ministry is fully dedicating its resources to the protection of our most vulnerable citizens,' said DMLE Head Dolores Umbridge in a statement last night. 'All witches and wizards who abide by the laws set up for their protection shall be free to go about their business without incident; we warn all those who would contribute to the terrorist cause by participating in unpatriotic protests that you will be subject to the fullest discipline of the law.' The settlements of Hogsmeade and Tinworth, as well as Diagon Alley in London, will be patrolled everyday at all hours by armed DMLE officers. Other villages, such as Godric's Hollow and Upper Flagley, are currently being considered for when the programme has more personnel and resources. Citizens are also reminded that the nation-wide curfew is still in effect and must be heeded for their own personal safety. CONTINUED ON A7, QUIBBLER PHOTOGRAPHY HOAX. |
