Thanksgiving @ Lucky's
Who: Open Thread
What: Thanksgiving Dinner
When: Nov. 26, 6pm food (until it runs out), drinks until 10pm
Where: Lucky's, Searchlight
Growing up, Brian favored Thanksgiving over the other holidays. He had fond memories of crowding around a kitchen table with his parents and Angela to eat too much and yell good-naturedly at football games. There was always an extra person. Whether it be an uncle or aunt, a neighbor, or one of Brian or Angela's friends, somehow his mom always found room at the table and dumped food on their plate until the guest begged her to stop. After he was bitten and moved out to the middle of nowhere with his pack, it wasn't the same. They ate (like any werewolf would turn down a holiday designed around food) and they were loud as hell, but it was insular. When he moved to Searchlight, he learned that Lucky's shut down on the holiday, so he spent Thanksgiving of 2019 alone in his trailer and thought to himself, "Well, this shit isn't happening again."
A lot could change in a year. In 2020, he convinced his boss to let him host dinner at Lucky's. Resources were scrounged up to pay for everything. He sent the invite to people he knew from around -- bandmates, friends, acquaintances, a few of the bar's regulars -- and decided that anybody else who walked in the door would be invited to join, like his mom would have done it. They had kegs from le Breeze and some other drinks from their own stock, desserts from a pastry chef named Ro, and a few sides coming from Ronnie. Turkey, ham, rolls, and other staples were prepped in the Lucky's kitchen, with Brian and the cook rolling up their sleeves and making it happen. Only one of them got burned in the process, so Brian called that a win. The Lucky's staff put out some fall decorations, candles in jars, and rented tablecloths. It wasn't fancy, but it was nice.
They used the long bar for the first wave of hot food, setting the pans on warmers. When it was done, another wave would come out. It would be buffet-style, with kegs off to the side. Brian paid Nikk, Ruby, and Kenny overtime to keep the food on rotation, but otherwise they could kick back and have an easy night of it.
At 6pm, they unlocked the door to the guests. The jukebox was playing and the bar smelled like hot food.
[OOC Notes: Please use "post a new comment" to announce a character's arrival (totally optional) or to start a new interaction. Use "reply to this" to join a thread. Give your thread a title (ex. Brian + Open, Brian + Bob, Brian + Open to Several, Brian + Open to One) to indicate who or how many can join it. You're encouraged to branch out beyond the usual interactions! It's Thanksgiving, so inclusivity is the way to go! Please, please... refresh before you post.
About Lucky's- It's a one-story saloon on the south end of Searchlight, right off the highway. The main part of the structure contains a long wooden bar with stools, a small stage at the far end, a juke box, and some small tables (which will be pushed together into larger seating options). Through an opening to the left, there is a room with more tables and casino machines. Through an opening to the right, there are pool tables. There's also a covered patio with tables outside. Nobody 'questionable' would be in the VIP room tonight. Word of the dinner was passed to friends and friends of friends. The 'Open' sign isn't on, but if townsfolk or other characters show up for a meal or drinks, the door is open to them. They might see cars and lights and decide to wander up.]
