RP: Couch ... mmmm....
Characters: Benjy, Cas
Time/Date: Evening, November 2
Location: their flat
Warnings/Rating: None?
Summary: Benjy is tired from training
Status: Complete

He'd known training was going to be rough, that the hours were going to be long, that he was going to be confused to the point of frustration more than once. His predictions had all come true, though he'd had lunch and two other breaks to chill himself out and work out his frustrations.

But the tired ... not so much with the working that out. Today was his second day of training, and he was just as tired as he'd been the night before.

Letting himself into their flat, he made a bee-line for the couch and flopped face-first down onto it.

"Cas, I'm broken," he mumbled into the couch cushion before he tilted his head. "Caaaaaasss..." he called so she could hear him.

"Yes, Benjy?" She asked, padding out of the bathroom, hair still damp from her shower. Catching sight of him face down, she quirked a small smile; I know that look, she thought. It's a worse version of what happens to Healers during basic. Looks like being an Unspeakable's even more likely to batter you than healing.

"Work was ... tiring, I take it? Am I even allowed to still ask at this point?" She said, sitting down on the floor next to the couch.

He released an exaggerated groan before he managed to roll over onto his back - for the full range of dramatics, of course.

"Tiring, frustrating, I'm going to start packing a lunch because the food they serve there is lethal," he began. "I can't even talk to you about what's going on. I don't even know for sure if I can tell you that I work," he dropped his voice to a hoarse whisper. "In the basement."

He grinned and shrugged against the couch. "I keep telling myself it will all be worth it. Someday." Shifting his gaze to her, he offered her a cheerful if somewhat sleepy smile.

"How was your day?"

"The basement, eh?" She asked. "Don't worry, I won't go about announcing it to anyone. As for the food, my condolences; I don't suppose you're allowed topside for lunch ever? Or tea?" That was one of the benefits of working at Mungo's'; as long as she was back on time, no one cared where she at or who she ate with.

"My day was fine. Unremarkable really. I tried the Wolfsbane potion again; I swear, the day I get it and the day the world ends are one in the same," she joked. "But thank you for asking," she smiled at him, tilting her head back.

"Probably. Don't see why I wouldn't be released from my cage. Lunch is half an hour, so as long as I'm back in my cell when it's over ..." he shrugged. "I could probably pop home for lunch, but then I'd forget I had to go back to work and nap on the couch. Then I'd be fired and that wouldn't end well for anyone."

He grinned. "Well, hey. No one said catching up on forty some odd years of magic was going to be easy. Heard that one was a bear anyway. Master level and whatnot. No one's going to expect you to pick it up any time this year. But just keep trying."

Stretching out to his full length on the couch, he sighed. "How'd tea go? Yesterday, right? How's Lily doing?"

"No, no, it wouldn't," she agreed."Though I can't really fault you. The couch is pretty comfortable, and Merlin knows, you look like you could use the sleep."

Cas sucked in her cheek. "I haven't managed to properly get Wolfsbane, however, I am fairly certain I've invented several lethal potions in the process. Or at least ones that smelled lethal." She wrinkled her nose. "I've been told that even when it's brewed properly it's pretty foul smelling, actually."

"Tea was lovely; she seems to be doing better, though I think she's still in a bit of pain. To be honest, we tried not to spend too much time on what happened in Hogsmeade. I don't know about Lily, but I'd like to pretend this is just an isolated incident and won't happen again; I'm probably wrong, but I like my delusions."

"It's a very comfortable couch," he agreed.

Benjy chuckled softly at her expressions. "Maybe one of them will turn out to be useful and you can patent it if you remember the way you brewed it," he suggested teasingly. He doubted things like that really happened, but what did he know about potions, really?

He nodded slightly. He could understand wanting to think it wasn't going to happen again, but he also knew that it had gone like this before. Attacks, murders, and then all out war. If they had the numbers to back them ...

But he doubted that. At least, he doubted it could happen so soon. They'd have to get together followers, and that could take years. In the meantime ... they just had to deal with the little ... outbursts.

Summoning the take-away menus with a flick of his wand, he grinned. "So who are we calling to make us dinner tonight?"

"Hmmm..." she intoned, leaning against the couch. "Choices, choices, choices. I say we start by narrowing things down that we don't want. All I know is that I'm hungry, and that I do not want to cook. Or attempt Wolfsbane for another week. It's doing bad things to my ego," she teased. "Who hasn't cooked for us lately? "

It was moments like this that made Cas want to believe that the attack on Hogsmeade and Bellatrix's rampage were just flukes. She could go back to war, she supposed; she hadn't been too long out of practice to take up arms again. She just wished the quiet little life she'd found would stay.

"Gary's Chinese, Mal's Pizza, and the thai place on the corner I'm not even going to try to pronounce. We haven't abused them yet this week. So, are we feeling oriental or Italian tonight?" he teased as he rifled through the menus as well.

Sometimes, he was kind of glad work kept him busy and focused on things that had nothing to do with Hogsmeade and Death Eaters. It made the 'shoving it to the back of his mind' thing easier.

He wondered if the Order was going to get together, and if so, who he'd talk to about it. Not that he was itching to get back to fighting, but he wanted information first.

Maybe he'd hit up Frank or Alice, get their thoughts on this.

Shaking it off for now, Benjy turned his attention to dinner. "Or the fish place, but one of us would have to go pick that up," he offered as he came across a buried menu.

"I'm feeling too much like a bum to go, put on actual non-pajama clothes, walk, handle money, and walk some more and you don't seem too thrilled at such a strenuous bit for food either; we can demand their services when we're both less exhausted. As for thai versus chinese versus pizza, I dunno. I'm basically evaluating on the basis of 'what will take the least amount of effort to clean up', and the answer is that it doesn't really matter, now does it?"

She grinned up at him. "It's a very roundabout way of telling you it's your call, because I am indecisive and lazy."

"Wow, we were venturing into cleanup debates?" Benjy grinned and played a game of eeni-meenie between the three menus. "Thai it is," he declared. "The usual?" He was glad he could order by number, because pronunciation was not his strong point.

He closed his eyes and summoned the phone, because getting off the couch was completely not an option.

Wondering if the delivery boy would actually open the door if he hollered a 'come-in', he decided he'd try it tonight unless Cas beat the words to the door.

"The usual sounds good; I'm not feeling particularly adventurous tonight." Feigning emotion, she placed the back of her hand against her forehead, exclaiming: "Oh woe is me! I'm getting old!" She giggled. "Oh wait, according to my birth certificate, I'm already old."

"Is it kosher to magic the door open when the delivery bloke gets here, by the way? The floor is pretty comfortable."

Benjy laughed. "I was just going to tell him to come on in, but hell, for all that, we may as well just magic the door open just before he gets here."

Granted, there was the matter of money, but ... that was why they had a table by the door.

"But I suppose since I've got to sit up to eat anyway...." he heaved a sigh. "I may as well answer the door."

Dialing the familiar number, he placed their usual order and hung up. "And now we wait ..."

Picking herself off the floor, Cas plopped herself down on the couch next to Benjy. "Well, it won't be too long; we've waited the better part of the day for food, so another twenty minutes or so should be manageable." Tucking her feet under her, she settled against the couch. "Yeah, the floor's got nothing on this."

He grinned, drawing his legs up to move them out of Cas' way so she could sit without him being in the way.

"You'd like to think that, but they're working me to the point of starvation," he teased her. "But I guess twenty minutes won't kill us."

He stretched. "So, what're your grand plans for tomorrow. Or after dinner. Or ... whenever ...?"

"My grand plans? After dinner, I'm going to clean up and talk to you, and go to bed evntually. Tomorrow, I'm going to avoid Wolfsbane. In the long run, I'm after ... I dunno what I'm after. Someone, obviously. It'll fall into place. You?" She asked.

"Sleep," he nodded. "After dinner comes sleep. Then work again, where I will try not to explode with frustration at all the things I don't know that someone has to teach me, or at least toss a book at me about."

He grinned and shrugged. "After someone, huh?" He waggled his brows playfully before he summoned over the remote for the telly. It was really kind of brilliant, the whole 'not having to move' thing, and he was completely taking advantage of it.

"I hate that feeling," Cas said. "I don't have the foggiest as to what you're doing that someone has to explain, but it's maddening to not know what you're doing!"

"Yeah," she said, leaning back. "I died alone last time, and, while I don't remember actually dying, I remember that living alone wasn't exactly pleasant. Even here, before you moved in, it was too quiet and it was freaky. Now, you're here and it's better. As for dating, it's not that being single's some curse, it's just not my cup of tea."

"Yeah," he agreed with a sigh. "Things they all take for granted as widely known, just because it was invented between our times and they learned it in school." He shrugged one shoulder. "But the guys tutoring me are kind of catching on and they'll ask before they get into something, if I need it explained or ... what's been updated. Can't be any easier on them," he decided. "Having to slow down training to make sure I'm on the right page."

Benjy grinned over to her. "Well, you could date me. Then we'd avoid the awkwardness of you bringing home blokes to find me sprawled on the couch in my pants or something like that."

"I suspect it's much more extreme than what I'm seeing in healing, but I understand the general gist. As for the blokes training you, at least they're not too thick and can explain things. Obviously you've got promise; they did take you in, after all. Not like that was really a surprise, though."

Cas tilted her head against the couch, eying him. "It makes sense, you know. We're already living together and whatnot and temporally displaced and ... I'm rambling. But that was a yes, if you're asking."

"I don't think they'd let thick people work down there. I mean, I'd go into details, but I'm pretty sure they'd overhear me somehow and they'd fire me," he nodded. "That wouldn't be good."

He grinned over to her. "Good. Now I can stop trying to impress the birds," he teased softly. "Does that mean I have to start taking you out to dinner and buying you flowers and the like?"

"You never know ..." she trailed off. "Odder things have happened. And, yeah, would prefer you not be fired. It would not be the best of outcomes."

"Merlin, no!" She laughed. "It would mean having to get off the couch and actually look presentable; I don't have that kind of energy, and I'm guessing you don't either," she teased.

"No, then you'd have to swing rent and groceries," he pointed out. "That wouldn't end well." He chuckled quietly. Really though, once he finished training, he'd be bringing in a fair bit of income, and they could upgrade their flat.

If they wanted to. He kind of liked this one.

"Well, not tonight, but someday we might have that sort of energy. Like after we have a day off or something and have had a chance to sleep."

"You'd have to buy the groceries; I'd forget and then we'd never have milk or tea or sweets. And I'd be working overtime, because neither of us cook, and we order in all the time." She paused for a minute. "It would somehow end with something exploding."

"Ahh, sleep. Days off. Going out. All good things. Eventually, they'll happen. I think."

"Think we can owl order groceries?" he mused. "I definitely think we could write a guide on laziness," he reflected as he nodded. "You know. If we weren't so lazy." He chuckled quietly.

"Exploding anything is probably bad," he decided with a nod.

"They'll happen eventually. Things will probably slow up once training's done, settle me into a more normal schedule."

"Our sheer laziness really has to be astounding to someone. We could make big money if we let that mystery person interview us. Of course, we'd have to stop being lazy long enough to find that person, and haggle over our interview price."

"I agree; it might end in a visit to Mungo's, and no one wants that."

"Normal..." Cas mused. "I never thought I'd be looking forward to normal. It's been pretty ace, though, at least the little glimpses of it I've seen."
