RP: The Goblet
Characters: Lan, Tris, Remus
Time/Date: Evening, October 13, 2023
Location: Great Hall
Warnings/Rating: None
Summary: Lan puts his name in the cup
Status: Complete

Landon had watched the unveiling of the Goblet just before dinner, and he'd stuck around after dinner to watch and see who put their names in. He wasn't the only one sitting around and watching; the Hall was lined with the audience.

It seemed to be a fair mix of younger students who were green with envy that they couldn't put their names in, and the older students scoping out the competition.

Lan watched as a tall, leggy witch in the Durmstrang robes stalked over to the cup and dropped her name in.

"Ready?" he said to Tristan.

"Really going to do it?" The older wizard grinned.

"Yeah," he replied softly. He was doing this only because he knew he wouldn't be chosen. He wasn't the best, the brightest, the fastest, the most clever. He was a good wizard, sure, but closer to average than amazing.

Tris, despite his penchant toward bragging, was only slightly more champion-like, at least as far as Lan was concerned.

"Want me to hold your hand?" Tristan grinned to his best mate.

"Dunno," Lan said, grinning. "Who's going to get jealous if they see that?" His blue eyes flicked pointedly toward the Gryffindor table.

Tristan laughed before he ducked his head slightly. "I'll risk it if you need someone to hold your hand," he assured Landon.

"Think I'll be all right," Landon said before he stood up. He crossed to the small podium that held the papers, and he carefully penned down his name. Tristan was beside him, doing the same thing. "Ready?" he said.

"Ready," Tristan agreed before he started over toward the Goblet with Landon. "Good luck," he offered before he dropped his name in.

"Same," Landon replied before dropping his name in as well. He did wonder if it would be rejected, but ... he was in the parameters, if just barely. When nothing was spit back out, he grinned to Tris before strolling back toward the Ravenclaw table to sit and watch and see who else put in their names.

Remus had hung around after dinner out of sheer interest. he suspected that the real contenders would be more private about putting their names in but it was interesting to see who did go up. He'd considered it for a moment but then dismissed the idea. He was smart, yes, but he wouldn't consider himself champion material.

He pulled himself away from the conversation he was half listening to when he saw Landon and Tristan get up and walk towards the Goblet. He squelched the surge of stupid jealousy, reminding himself that Tris and Lan had been friends for years before he came along.

But that didn't stop him from oh-so-casually getting up and wandering over to the Ravenclaw table to meet them when they returned. "So... do you think you'll be chosen?" he asked with a smile.

"Oh yeah," Tristan said brightly when Remus came over. "I have it on the best authority that I'll not only be chosen, but I'll be the champion," Tris 'bragged' to Remus. He elbowed Lan playfully when the younger boy chuckled.

Scooting over to make room on the bench, he gestured for Remus to have a seat and join them.

"I mean, if not me, than who?"

"I can think of any number of people," Landon quipped before he peered around Tristan to wave to Remus. "Hey," he greeted him quietly. "I mostly just ... put in because I could," he said. He was fairly certain he wouldn't be chosen.

Not that that would change the feeling of anticipation at the drawing and probably disappointment he'd probably feel when he wasn't chosen.

"Are you going to put your name in?" He wondered if Remus would just because, or if he was going to refrain out of respect for James and Sirius since they couldn't.

Then he wondered if the Goblet would have issues with the name since technically Remus was dead. Or way too old to be a student. Did it even work like that? Come to that, how did it work? His brow furrowed a little as he turned his attention to the cup, studying it thoughtfully.

Remus sat down next to Tris and then laughed at their antics. "Well, it won't be me." He shrugged. "I'm not going to be putting my name in. I'm not exactly champion material." His laugh this time was slightly self-deprecating. For once this had nothing to do with being a werewolf but more about what he'd heard and read about the last Tournament... and not the ending with Voldemort.

"I mean I'm smart," he continued hurriedly. "I know that. And I'm good at Defence and Charms but..." He grimaced and shook his head. "James and Sirius are the ones who come up with the plans on the fly, not me. I'm good at seeing the holes in the plans once they come up with them but the plans generally come from Prongs and Padfoot."

He waved a hand at the Goblet. "And from what I've read about this thing, the ability to think quickly on your feet is kind of important." And the fact that James and Sirius couldn't enter was kind of a factor too. It didn't seem fair.

Tris blinked and mustered up his best shocked expression. "This thing expects you to think? No one said anything about that. It was just glory this and champion that.

"I didn't know we actually had to do anything. I have been gravely misinformed. I demand a refund!"

"Of what? Your name back from the cup?" He reached for his bookbag; if Tris was going to people watch (or, more likely, take off with Remus), he was going to read and see if he could get a little ahead in the next transfiguration lesson.

"That. Yes. Exactly that." He grinned to Lan before he dropped a hand to lightly squeeze Remus' thigh.

"Speaking of your mates and plans, I haven't seen much by way of noteworthy pranks from them. Are they behaving, busy, or plotting something enormous and epic?"

Remus laughed. "Well, maybe not given Harry was a Gryffindor. Though that might be being cruel to the other boy. He was a Hufflepuff if I remember correctly. They usually remember to think things through."

He blushed a little when Tris placed his hand on his thigh but felt that stupid little curl of jealousy which he'd been firmly denying was actually there because it was stupid and illogical fade away. He dropped his hand down on top of Tris' and squeezed lightly.

"They have been busy but they've got that look about them that says they're planning something," he said wryly. "Halloween's coming up so I'm sort of expecting to have them hustle me away soon enough so they can lay their stupendous plan out in front of me and let me tell them whether it's really stupendous or just plain stupid."

"Hogsmeade trip coming up right before Halloween," Landon offered as he rummaged through his back. "Excellent chance for them to stock up on things. They've got a joke shop back there now. The Hogsmeade branch of the Weasley Wheezes," he supplied.

"Did you swipe my transfiguration book?"

"I misplaced it," Tris said with a shrug and a grin. "Or I borrowed it to kill a few bugs." Reaching down for his own bag, he pressed a kiss to Remus' knee - nevermind there were layers of fabric in the way - to pull out Lan's book. "Or I thought it was mine. Or I wanted to see what you'd highlighted. Or I wanted to determine if werewolves could also be animagi. Strangely, that wasn't covered in your book either."

Landon rolled his eyes as he took his book back. "Be kind of funny if your animagus form was a wolf," he offered before he shifted his eyes to Remus. "Did you ever look into that? Animagus transformations for yourself?"

Since Remus had seemed comfortable enough with the hand on his thigh, Tris eased his arm around the other male. So, he liked to cuddle. What of it? He just didn't want to make Remus uncomfortable while there were so many other students around. Or ever, really, but especially in public.

Which reminded him - again - they should probably sit down and talk and define boundaries and what was okay and what wasn't and whether or not they were dating or ... what. Maybe next time they were alone, Tris would leap onto that.

Or they could do it through journals, if Remus had one.

Remus watched the byplay between Tris and Lan with amusement and swallowed before rewarding that soft kiss he felt by running his hand breifly through Tris' hair. They reminded him a little of James and Sirius at times though neither of James or Sirius had ever really been as serious as Lan could be. It was more the banter that prompted the similarity.

He shook his head ruefully. "The idea is interesting but turning into an animal once a month was always enough for me." Of course that was before the Wolfsbane when turning into an animal was unpleasant and scary. Now though... well, the idea was a little more intriguing. "Unfortunately I could never find any information anywhere about what effect being a lycanthrope has on the transformation."

He tensed momentarily when Tris put his arm around his shoulders then slowly relaxed and leaned into the other boy, reminding himself that he could do this now. Wasn't like Tris was going to care that he was a werewolf and it wasn't as though homosexuality or bisexuality had the stigma attached to it as it once had. Though he still hadn't told James and Sirius. He should probably do that at some point.

He looked rather wryly amused. "Though knowing my luck, if I managed to become an animagus and it didn't make me a wolf, I'd probably end up as something that flies."

"Wonder if there's anything in the restricted section," Lan mused. He didn't miss the fact the two wolves were getting closer, and he grinned a little. "Could try writing to Relic. If there's a book out there, he'd find it."

"Could write to Lily. She's working for Relic. And now I want to hum the Small World song," Tristan declared, inhaling as if to follow through on the threat.

"Funny, if you start that I might want to kick you in a very uncomfortable place." Lan did grin though as he thumbed through his book. He did glance to the cup now and again when he saw someone moving in that direction, and he wasn't really surprised by some of the entrants. He did notice Lily Luna hanging around the cup though, and his grin broadened slightly.

"You see what I have to put up with?" he said to Remus. He'd felt the tensing, and the subsequent relaxation, and he smiled. "Flying things wouldn't be bad," he reflected. "Think of all the fun you could have chasing Lan if he was a mouse."

He grinned at Lan's snort.

"We could ask Professor Capper. He'd probably have some idea. Or at least where to look." He rubbed Remus' shoulder gently, not for the first time wishing they shared a house. It would be nice to share a common room. Or be near his dorm room.

"There wasn't anything in the Restricted Section last time I looked up the subject," Remus said thoughtfully. "Though admittedly that was... around fifty years ago so that's probably not worth much."

That was still very odd to think about... that his last memories before waking up here were fifty years in the past. And that he'd lived for part of that fifty years and didn't remember it. He wondered if remembering it would make things better or worse then decided that it probably didn't matter.

He grimaced. "Feet belong on the ground," he said firmly. "I never even really got the hang of flying on a broomstick." He snorted and looked mildly amused. "Probably a good thing really. If I'd been any good, James and Sirius would have pushed me into trying out for the Quidditch team and that would have been a world of complications I didn't need back then."

"Probably not really a restricted topic," Lan reflected. "I'll run it by Professor Capper next time I'm up there."

He grinned over to Remus. "Bold of you to say that. Tris lives to fly. He'll have to disown you now."

Tristan laughed softly. "Not disown. But you'll definitely have to make up for that comment." He nudged Remus playfully.

"Since we're about to lose Landon to his book, let's say we wander off and do things you wouldn't want your mates seeing you do," he murmured playfully near Remus' ear before nuzzling at the other wolf's throat.

Inappropriate public behavior. That's what he was all about.

Remus blushed and chuckled. "Yeah, yeah, I've had that threat before." Okay, James and Sirius' threats had been a little different and he'd been more worried about the oddly enough. Stupidly worried that it might be enough to lose the first really good friends he'd had since he'd been bitten.

He closed his eyes and bit his lip when Tris got so close. He still couldn't believe how much he liked the other wolf's scent and he wondered if it was a werewolf thing. Not that he knew who he could ask about that... except maybe his older self. Which was impossible.

"I... uh... yeah, okay," he said, puling himself together and reminding himself they were in the Great Hall and he really didn't want to make an idiot out of himself here.

Tristan grinned at Remus' response, and smiled at his reaction. He liked how Remus reacted to him. He ... liked a lot about Remus, really. "So, right. We'll leave you to your studies and try not to get in too much trouble."

He stood up and held out his hand for Remus. He wasn't sure if Remus really did want to go somewhere and fool around, or just talk and walk, but Tris was up for anything. He just ... liked spending time with him.

Lan lifted his hand in a wave. He was glad to see Tristan so happy, so relaxed. Tris deserved to be happy, after his earlier years and all the time he'd spent fearing himself. "See you," he said to them both.

Remus took Tristan's hand after a small hesitation then ignored the sudden hammering of his heart and entwined his fingers with the other boy's. He didn't look around to see how or even if anyone else was reacting though.

"Small hope of that," he said dryly. "You can get in trouble in this place just walking between classes."

He looked over at Lan and smiled. "Bye."
