Characters: Remus Lupin & open
Time/Date: 6 October, late afternoon
Location: Common commons, Hogwarts
Warnings/Rating: TBD
Summary: Remus is studying. What a surprise!
Status: Incomplete

Remus sat on one of the comfortable couches in the common commons with his nose buried in his Defence Against the Dark Arts text and his feet toasting nicely in front of the fire. He still wasn’t entirely certain whether he liked the idea of a common commons though he suspected that had more to do with the times in which he grew up than anything else. The whole idea would have been an utter disaster in the 70s and he shuddered to think of the chaos that would have ensued if Sirius and Severus had been put in the same room for any length of time, especially with James and the other Slytherins there to make things worse.

Still it seemed to work alright now and supposed that was the difference between growing up in a time when Voldemort was causing havoc and growing up in a time when there was peace and no storm clouds on the horizon, let alone hovering overhead. It lessened the tensions between the students.

Which was just as well because catching up with nearly fifty years worth of advances in magic was a challenge. Some things hadn’t changed quite as much as others but there was still a lot of work to be done and he was actually kind of glad now that they’d put him in Sixth Year instead of where he ought to be in Seventh Year. There was no way he could have caught up in less than a year and sat his NEWTs with any confidence. Now he had an extra year to catch up and he was glad of it instead of feeling vaguely insulted as he had at first.

He turned a page in his text book and continued reading. The need to actually pay attention was useful for keeping his mind off things he didn’t really want to think about and he was half hoping he’d be interrupted and could continue to not think about them

"Reading's bad for your eyes you know," Tris said as he strolled in. That was ironic, since he had his face in a book often enough ... though moreso when it was quiet than when there were things going on.

"By which I mean, you are an impossible person to track down. I looked absolutely no where and just kept pestering Lan until he ventured some guesses."

Tris flopped down on the couch beside Remus, his head landing on the back of the couch as he peered over Remus' shoulder to see what he was reading. Sixth year stuff. That was kind of nice - the memories and all. "You know," he said thoughtfully. "Lan could help you catch up. If you haven't already hit him up for it. He's this bloke I know? Think he's in Ravenclaw." Tris grinned slightly ... though for all he knew, Lan was already tutoring the lot of them. Seemed like something he'd be doing.

"By which of course I mean, hello Remus, how are you doing?" Tris grinned to the other boy, an impish sparkle in blue eyes.

"Well, I'm in trouble then, aren't I?" Remus said mildly. He liked Tris and he wondered if he'd have been that carefree if he'd grown in this time instead of in a time that feared and hated werewolves... for good reason. Then again, perhaps not.

He laughed and turned his attention away from his book and over to Tris. "Lan already is helping... well, I say us but given the concentration levels of the others, it's more me then I translate it into 'Marauders' for the others." Which was the most normal thing about any of this really. That James and Sirius were still just James and Sirius. It made him feel better about all the stuff that still threw him for a loop.

"Good enough," he said, pulling his feet up so he was sitting cross-legged on couch. Then he waved a hand around. "This place is new though. How long has this been around?"

Tris wasn't at all surprised to hear that Lan was already helping, and he grinned slightly. That was like him. Helpful and friendly and way the hell more patient than Tris could ever be.

"The common commons? Just this month, since the start of term. Think it was mostly implemented for the visitors." The soon-to-be-arriving visitors, and Tris was eager to meet the two who had already declared themselves to be wolves.

"Since they're breaking them up between the houses, so they'll still have a place to get together with their mates and annoy us all by chattering on in languages we can't understand." He paused. "We probably can't understand, right? You don't secretly speak Russian or Bulgarian or French or something, do you?"

He grinned. "For the record, I'm monolingual."

Remus nodded. "That makes sense. I was just thinking that it's just as well there was never a place like this back in the Seventies. It would have been an unmitigated disaster." He was curious about these foreign students. He'd been told about the previous Triwizard Tournament and wasn't sure if he was excited or appalled at what had happened.

He laughed then shrugged. "I speak a tiny bit of French, mostly bad French. My Mum wanted me to learn but I just couldn't seem to get the hang of it. Once I got to Hogwarts, well, there were other things to concentrate on." Like hiding what he was from the rest of the school.

He hesitated for a moment then plunged onwards. "Did a student really die the last time they held this tournament?"

Tristan laughed slightly. "I can just imagine. I mean, I've heard stories. Not that I was actually there. Lan's grandfather was though, and he's got plenty of stories." He looked thoughtful. "He knew you guys. Or of you guys. I guess he was a few years older than you, head boy in his last year. Isaac Farnsworth?" He supposed the name would probably ring a bell of some sort. "Anyway. Once everyone started coming back, he started getting nostalgic about things."

Tristan thought Isaac had an alarming number of stories about Lily, but apparently he'd been one of the many to fancy her. "So yeah. Like I said, we've got at least a glimpse of what things were like back then. Glad it's not like that anymore."

He grinned as Remus went on about French, nodding slightly before his expression fell.

"Yeah. Not as part of the tournament, but ... the whole thing was a set up to ... to get LilyLu's dad killed. She could probably give you detailed accounts of it, but we've all heard her stories." He grinned. "But I guess the way it went, was Mr Potter and Cedric - the official, proper champion - reached the cup at the same time, and ... or about the same time, something, and decided to be fair about it and both grab it. They didn't know it was going to whisk them away and ..." He nodded. "Cedric was killed. Mr Potter nearly was, but ... I guess something flippy happened with their wands and he managed to get away. But that was the night that Voldemort officially came back. By getting a body of his own. No one believed it of course, because who'd want to believe that? But eventually they had to, and ... the second war started up then."

Remus frowned in thought for a moment then blinked. "Isaac Farnsworth? I.. yeah, he was in Ravenclaw. He was Head Boy when we were in Fourth Year." He smiled ruefully. "He took points from us... well, mostly Sirius and James... a few times. I got the impression he thought the Marauders were a little... frivolous. But then again, he was a Ravenclaw."

Most Ravenclaws thought they were a little frivolous... except the girls. Even the Ravenclaw girls liked Sirius and James... though they were the least likely to admit it.

"I read about that bit but they sort of glossed over the death a bit," Remus said slowly. "Priori Incantatem. That's really rare. A lot of people have the same sort of core but to have a core from the very same creature, that's a lot rarer. He was lucky." He shook his head and snorted. "It's weird to think about all of that. I know it happened the year after I taught here and that's even weirder to think about. I like the idea, being a teacher wouldn't be bad, but it's still weird."

"Yeah. I kind of get the impression he feels that way about me sometimes," Tris admitted. "But since I haven't completely corrupted Lan, I guess I'm still on the 'all right' side of things." He grinned and shrugged slightly.

Tris nodded as he listened to Remus, a grin splitting his lips. "Give it a few years. Maybe you'll be a teacher here again," he pointed out. Not that any of their professors were anywhere near retiring age, but... well, the Headmaster was, and one of the professors would probably pick up after him, leaving something open.

Which made Tris kind of wonder who the next Headmaster would be. He'd put his money on Professor Longbottom though.

"I haven't given much thought about what I want to do with my life after school," he admitted. "I ... guess I'll probably focus on the potions for a bit 'til I can at least make my own Wolfsbane so I won't have to ... depend on having someone around who can supply it. Think it'd be nice to travel around for a bit and ... not have to worry about the moon, you know?"

Remus laughed and finally closed his book. "Maybe. I think I have more opportunities now though. Which is still a bit much to take in. I spent so many years hiding what I am from people that to have it be... accepted is strange." He smiled wryly. "Especially when one of the reasons it's so accepted is... well, me. Older me."

He kind of liked hearing about his older self even if it was weird. He liked the man he'd grown into though he did wonder if he'd manage it this time, without everything he went through last time.

"Yeah, I like that idea too... even if I don't really like the smell of Potions." He wrinkled his nose. He'd never gotten used to that and half the time he'd end up spending half the class sneezing. He still did though Professor Stirling was pretty okay about it. He frowned at the thought of Professor Stirling. He seemed oddly familiar every now and then though he couldn't quite put his finger on why. He had spent too much time staring at the professor trying to figure out why though.

He shook his head. "You know... I'd heard the rumours about a potion for werewolves back in the Seventies. Well, my Dad had anyway. I never expected anyone to actually manage it though."

"See. I couldn't imagine having to hide it. Or not having the potion," Tris admitted, his brow furrowing as he tried to imagine that. "My mum did a decent job of making me afraid of myself before I got to school," he confessed a little randomly. "The first couple of years were a special kind of hell for me until I met up with Landon and he pointed out how stupid I was being." Tris grinned a little at the memory before he shrugged. "Not the same, I know."

Tris grinned a little. "I'd say you get used to it ... but it's a pain having an enhanced nose sometimes." Or often. Especially after a really sweaty quidditch practice. "The potions don't bother me so much, but I can definitely smell them."

He stretched a little and nodded. "Be nice if they could tweak it so it didn't taste like sweaty donkey arse though." He tilted his head. "Not that I know from experience, or anything." He rolled his shoulders. "Maybe if I ever get down the making of the potion, I'll play around with it and find out if there's a way to add flavor without negating all the useful ingredients."

"I actually didn't think I'd ever be able to come to school," Remus admitted, hugging his book to his chest as he remembered that time. He'd been miserable and he'd been looking forward to going to Hogwarts from when he was old enough to understand about magic. "Then Professor Dumbledore turned up on our doorstep with my letter and a plan for concealing my lycanthropy. It was pretty stressful though." He smiled wryly. "I'm a horrible liar and having to come up with an excuse every month to explain my absence wasn't easy. I'm sure that's half the reason James and Sirius got so suspicious. If my grandparents and aunts and uncles were really sick that often, they'd have died long ago."

He laughed. "Yeah, the taste is pretty foul but I'm used to that. Madam Pomfrey used to dose me every month with whatever she thought was going to perk me up." He smiled fondly at the thought of the old school nurse. He missed her even though the new Healer was very pretty. "I liked her though."

He cocked his head as he looked at Tris. "Hasn't anyone ever tried?" he paused and laughed softly and a little bitterly. "If I thought he'd give me the time of day, I'd contact Severus and ask him if he'd look into it. I heard he got his Mastery and that doesn't surprise me. But he's probably more likely to burn a letter from me unopened."

"Heard he was always good about things like that," Tris said with a grin. "The old him. Before the younger him showed up," he continued, the grin broadening slightly. "Though I imagine the younger him's just as good at it, or will grow into being just as good at it."

Though that made him wonder. Would people turn out the same, living in different circumstances? Remus had grown up in a war; how would growing up in peace change how he turned out?

"Miss Legard's not too bad." He hesitated a little, but he supposed Remus would hear about it somewhere. "She's ... afraid of werewolves," Tris murmured. "Not to the point where it affects anything she does, as far as her job goes, and we've talked about it, she and I. She admits it's not exactly rational - she's never had a bad encounter with one, but ... she gets really tense on full moon nights. Just ... so you know. If she acts weird or tense or something and you pick up on it, it isn't personal. I've never really noticed anything off around her, but with three more wolves in the school - you and the two we know about from Durmstrang - she's bound to be a little more ..." He cocked his head and made a 'you know' sort of gesture. "Not that I go around repeating this to everyone, mind. Just ... thought you should know."

He did grin a little at Remus' last comment. "Well, you're friends with Lily, right? And she's living with him? Could have her field it for you. She'd open your owl, and sure she'd pass along the message to him."

"I've seen him around the castle." Remus laughed and shook his head slightly. "It's so strange seeing him without the long grey hair and beard, especially the beard. I overheard some of the First Years asking him why he didn't have a beard like in his portraits and he just smiled and sort of fobbed them off in his own unique way. There's a story there, I think."

He sobered and nodded. "I'd... kind of figured that out. The tenseness is a bit obvious to the nose given it's full moon and all though I've noticed she doesn't let it interfere. It's okay though. You forget that's the reaction I'm more used to." He snorted. "I don't actually think it's all that bad to be afraid of werewolves. Without the potion, we're dangerous. Something my friends occasionally forget." And if his voice was more than a little bitter on that last sentence, well, that was perfectly understandable, wasn't it?

His smile returned at the mention of Lily though. "Yeah, I might try that. She could convince him, I think." He wondered how they were getting along. He'd heard a lot about what Severus had done during the war and it made his mind boggle. It was hard to associate all of that with the skinny, sullen, angry boy he'd known. He also wondered on occasion how much of a factor the actions of the Marauders had been in making Severus choose the Death eaters in the first place.

Tris nodded in agreement. Even with the potion, they still had the option to be dangerous. Wolves were killers, plain and simple. Just because he was playful on the potion didn't mean all of them were. "Hope the foreign wolves don't scre it all up," he offered off-handedly.

If they caused trouble, who knew what sort of chain of events that'd set off? What priveleges might be revoked?

They'd just have to be sure to keep them in line.

"And if that doesn't work, I'm sure I can persuade him." Tristan offered with a grin. He knew he was capable of no such thing, but it might be kind of fun to see what sort of reponse he received in response to a plea to make the Wolfsbane not taste like sweaty donkey arse. Especially if he used that phrase in his initial owl.

It was almost enough to make him hope Lily couldn't come through just so he could try it.

Remus devoutly hoped for that as well. He was enjoying not having to fear the full moon and he wanted that to continue. "Well, I think we can rely on Prongs and Padfoot to keep them under control with or without our help. They've got lots of practice dealing with a wild werewolf." He chuckled softly. "Hell, Prongs could even handle me on his own under the right circumstances. That rack of antlers he has are a pretty formidable weapon."

He stared at Tris for a moment then laughed at the very idea of him approaching Severus. He knew if Sirius or James were here, they'd egg Tris on but Remus was more than willing to give Severus the wide berth he wanted. It might be over twenty years since the 'Incident' for Severus but it was less than a year for Remus. The memories were still pretty strong.

"Do give us some warning if you try that," he said dryly. "We can have the Defence teacher on standby to try and undo whatever he does to you." He grinned. "And when that fails, we'll apply to Lily to soften him up and get him to reverse it."

"Yeah, not real sure I'd want to get too close to his hooves, either," Tris admitted. Sure, they were tough, as werewolves, but a solid, well-placed deer-kick would still hurt.

"Lucky they turned into such useful things, yeah? Imagine if they were ferrets or frogs or somesuch." He grinned. "Lan's working on becoming an animagus. I keep telling him he'll be a cricket. Or a mouse."

Tris grinned at Remus' laugh. "I promise. I'll even show you the letter before I send it off."

He stretched. "But I'm sure the Lily plan would work. She seems pretty persuasive. And pretty pretty."

Sure, he was into guys, but he could still appreciate attractive women. "Though in the off chance she can't and my charm fails to get through to him, what's our back-up back-up plan?"

Remus grinned again. "Well, Peter always thought he was pretty useless as a rat." His grin faltered as he remembered what he'd read in the books bout what Peter had done. He still had a hard time believing that. Peter being a traitor seemed as laughable as Sirius becoming a monk. "But he had his uses," he continued, shaking off the threatening mood. "He'd made a good decoy though I think I gave him a fright more than once."

He smiled fondly at the mention of Lily. He supposed that most people would say that he had a crush on her and maybe they were right. He didn't think so though. She been... was... a good friend who'd helped him get through a horrible time, who'd been kind and understanding and had never once flinched away from him.

"Yeah, she is," he said then he shrugged and looked innocent. "Dumbledore is the back-up back-up plan though I doubt we'll need him." He looked rather smugly secretive. "I think we can rely on Lily convincing him."

Tris nodded. He worried a little that if Lan was a mouse and he - for whatever reason - wasn't in control, he'd chomp his best mate.

He did notice the shifts in Remus' expression. Content enough to let the darker one pass unremarked, he was curious about the smug one.

"Knut for your thoughts? Or a snog. Whichever's the better bargaining chip. Why are we so certain lovely Miss Evans can get through to the scowly former Potions professor?"

Remus blushed for any number of reasons, at the idea of a snog with Tris, at the fact he'd been caught out, at the whole thought of what he was fairly certain he knew.

"Merlin," he said, running a hand through his hair and discarding his book on the floor. He glanced around the room then turned to face Tris, his expression very serious. "If I tell you, you absolutely cannot tell James or Sirius. I mean it. Not a word. Not even a joke. Not even a hint. And you can't tell anyone who would tell them so not Lily Luna either. Or anyone else."

He sighed. "I know you think I'm being silly but... they're just not logical about him and I don't think they've grasped the fact that he's got twenty odd years on us now and he spent all of those years as a Death Eater and a spy so he could probably kill them and get away with it easily. I think they still see him as the Slytherin boy they can bully and prank."

Tris almost asked 'what about Lan?' but ... Lan wasn't James, Sirius, or LilyLu, and actually knew how to keep his mouth shut. He was even more intrigued now as Remus went on about James and Sirius' lack of logic in regard to Severus, and what that had to do with Lily.

"Sure," he agreed. While the air about it was casual, his eyes weren't at all casual. He was intrigued and willing to keep it a secret. In the vein of keeping it serious, he refrained from asking whether he'd be coughing up a knut or a kiss in payment. "I have no doubt at all he could poison them and make it look like death of natural causes. From what I've heard anyway."

He grinned. So could Ace, really, and she'd actually be at the school for the TriWizard stuff. He made a mental note to make sure to harass her while she was here. Without interfering with her job as the backup healer, or whatever the title was.

Remus nodded slowly, more at the look in Tris' eyes than the way he agreed. "Good." He smiled wryly. "Because they wouldn't be the only ones to die. I'd be killed off to. Just for good measure." Because Severus did tend to see them as a group rather than individuals. Okay, he had reason for that but it wasn't very logical.

"Lily... likes Severus," he said slowly and in a soft voice... even though there was no one else in the room. "Probably more than just likes if I'm honest. She always has but... well, Severus took a path she just couldn't abide and..." He grimaced and waved a hand. "Well, that's ancient history and everyone knows what he did and didn't do. That's not the point."

"I think she could have really fallen in love with Severus if things had been different at school," he continued. He sighed. "Thing is... and I'm only speculating now because Severus was always damn hard to read even back then... I think the feeling was pretty mutual except he... well, I don't really know why he never acted on it. I guess only he knows that."

He ran a hand through his hair and shrugged. "I think he still feels that way. I've read the history books and I don't buy the reasons they have in there for why Severus did what he did. They make him sound like a Gryffindor and he's nowhere near that selfless. He's a true Slytherin, through and through. I should know. He used to tutor me in Potions. He did what he did for a reason and I think Lily was that reason."

Tris tilted his head slightly as he listened, kind of waiting for the punchline to all of it. He knew Lily and Remus had been friends in school, and he'd picked up enough from conversations to get an idea of how things had been back then.

"Well," he said thoughtfully. "Easy enough to see why he'd be in love with her," he speculated. "If I liked girls, I'd probably make a move on her myself. But ... given everything I've heard about him, not sure I really see it going the other way."

But then, he didn't really know Lily. He chatted her up when they happened to bump into each other near the potions classroom, but he didn't know her.

Tristan licked his lips, and very nearly said - in jest, of course - 'we should ask him' but refrained. No sense in scratching up the trust Remus had laid down in telling him this.

"Funny to think about how things would've gone different, isn't it?" Tris reflected, then frowned. "Probably ... not so funny for you." Remus had been closer to it. But this Remus hadn't yet lost his mates to death or prison or betrayal. But if things had gone different, maybe he wouldn't have had to. Interesting thing to wrap his mind around, and he'd likely be spinning 'what-ifs' in his head for a bit.

What would have happened if there was no Harry Potter to save the world. Harry Snape just ... didn't have the same ring to it. Sounded more like a disease, really. He snorted a little at his thoughts but nodded to Remus. "So, right then. Suppose if that's the case and there's a mutual attraction, stands to reason she could sway him."

Remus chuckled, remembering a few conversations. "You'd think that but Lily knew him before we even got to school." He paused and considered the whole matter. "I think she probably knows him better than anybody else. I saw them together a few times before they had their big bust up and he... he was different with her. It was like half a hundred walls came down and he just relaxed when they were together. And the way she teased him..." He shook his head and laughed softly. "No, there was definitely the potential for it to go both ways."

"Yeah," he said softly. "Though in my case, I really needed it to go differently from when I was a kid, not just from when we got to school."

He grinned. "I reckon if she really put her mind to it, she could wrap him around her little finger." He shrugged and smiled ruefully. "Mind you, she could probably do that with me or James or Sirius just as easily." He rolled his eyes and groaned as he flopped back on the couch. "Mind you, watching James pant after her at school was the next best thing to painful at times."

Tristan nodded slightly, and wondered if that made a difference, them knowing each other before school. It was interesting to ponder, and he thought maybe next time he ran into Lily, he'd be nosy about it and see if she'd share anything. "Well, maybe now they'll have a chance at it. It's not impossible right? Even though he's ... almost twice her age." He grinned. But hey, if the healer and the librarian could hook up ... why not two people who used to be friends and might be harboring feelings for each other?

"Well, right. But then I wouldn't have anyone to run with after the foreign kids leave." He paused. "Oh man. You're still going to run with me when we're done with school, right?" That would kind of suck, if he'd found people he liked running with only to lose them because he wasn't going to be at school anymore.

But he'd have to come back for potion lessons - unless a miracle befell the place and he managed to master the Wolfsbane before the end of the last term - so why not come back on the fulls to run?

He grinned a little. "Really? Even now she could do that? Should I be on the look-out for competition for your affections then?" he teased. He also wondered how James was handling things now, but ... surely there was another girl here for James to pant after. Or a bloke, if he'd come to his senses and realized that blokes were the way to go.

"Speaking of. Do I owe you a knut or a kiss for the sharing?" Tris reasoned that they'd drifted out of 'completely serious' far enough that he could tease comfortably.

It was strange to think of Severus as being twice their age but that was the reality of it. Remus was just kind of glad that he'd come back as that age because he didn't want to think what it would have been like here if Severus had been their age. "I kind of hope they do. James is... too young now and why shouldn't they both be happy?"

He snorted and raised his eyebrows at Tris. "Oi, idiot. Did you forget they put me back in Sixth Year? I'm going to be stuck here for another year. Nah, actually I'm kind of glad they did because there have been that many changes that there's no way I could sit my NEWTs this year and hope to pass."

He laughed at that. "Nah, not a chance," he said before realising how that would sound then he blushed. "Er, what I mean is Lily is a friend. Just a friend. There's... well, it's complicated but the short version is she was there for me during a bad patch and I guess she's more of a sister than anything else."

His blush intensified and he vacillated for a moment, the voices of James and Sirius in his head egging him on while his common sense yelled at him that it was a bad idea... until he realised that his major reason for it being a bad idea were kind of moot when it came to Tris. Tris had the same furry little problem he did. "I... uh... kiss?" he said, wincing that it came out as a question instead of a statement.

He wasn't sure why he found it so amusing that Remus was hoping for Lily and Severus to get together. Hell, for all he knew, they already were, and he added that to his list of questions to run by Lily.

"I know you're still stuck here. But I'm not," he pointed out. "When they leave at the end of the last term, I'll be out of here. Unless I fail something and have to be held back," he mused thoughtfully. Not that he actually would. Lan would kill him twice before his mum even heard about it to kill him for it.

He chuckled softly at the blushing and defining of Lily's relationship to him. "Suppose I'm not too worried if she's as smitten with Severus as you seem to think she is."

Tris was a little surprise when Remus opted for the kiss. "Suppose you'll have to tell me if the kiss is worth all the information you spilled. I mean, think of all the blackmail if I were some sort of bastard." He leaned a little closer to Remus before he nuzzled at the other wolf's throat. He inhaled the scent of him before he dragged his lips along Remus' jaw to claim his lips gently, but confidently.

He did remind himself that this wasn't anything, and he shouldn't read anything into it. It was just him, kissing a bloke to pay off a debt, so to speak. Even if said bloke did smell amazing, and even if he'd wanted to have an excuse to kiss him for a while now.

Remus shrugged. "Well, I'll still be running in the Forest. You're always welcome to run with me. It's... kind of fun to be able to outnumber Padfoot in a wrestle." It was also fun to be able to remember all of it clearly.

"I, uh... yeah," he managed to get out before he stumbled to a halt at the feel of Tris' lips on his jaw. He drew in a deep breath and his head swam a bit at the scent of the other werewolf. Then he was being kissed... and kissed very expertly.

He was still for a moment. He didn't have all that much experience, having been too afraid to get involved with anyone before. Not that he hadn't had some experience. James and Sirius wouldn't have stood for that in a heartbeat and he hadn't had that many problems finding a boy to kiss when he'd started wondering about that side of thing. It had been the Seventies after all, Age of Aquarius and all that. But this... this was different. And better.

He slid his hand around the back of Tris' neck and returned the kiss, hoping that his inexperience wasn't too painfully obvious.

Blue eyes closed completely once Remus returned the kiss. Tristan wasn't exactly in a hurry to break the kiss, but he had to find that line. The one between 'mhm, paying off a debt' and 'I would like you to shag me senseless, now please'.

He could tell that Remus was either nervous or inexperienced, and it didn't really feel like nerves. He wanted to make so quip about practicing, but ... that would require breaking the kiss, and he wasn't really ready yet.

Aware of the press of Remus' hand behind his head, Tris grinned a little against Remus' mouth as he ran one hand up to rest on the other wolf's shoulder.

He broke the kiss gently but didn't draw very far away. "Think I've earned my information, or should we go a bit more?" he mumbled, his lips brushing against Remus' mouth as he spoke.

Remus made a small sound of protest when Tris broke the kiss and for a moment his words made no sense. No great surprise. Remus' brain had taken a break, gone out for a quick coffee and a fag since it knew it was neither wanted or needed right now.

He licked his lips, the tip of his tongue brushing briefly against Tris' lip as he did so. "I... I don't care anymore," he mumbled before drawing Tris back into the kiss.

And a small part of his brain that wasn't completely off line hoped that telepathy was real and started issuing dire maledictions and threats in James and Sirius' direction if they should even dare to stick their big toes into the room right now.

This was a surprise, but a very, very pleasant one. He'd rather hoped that Remus at least wanted to fool around, and this was promising. He made a soft noise against Remus' mouth as he deepened the kiss slowly, his tongue probing out to tease at Remus' lips, seeking entrance.

He thought they really should ... go somewhere not quite so public. Sure, everyone and their cousin knew Tristan was out, but if Remus wasn't ready to admit he snogged boys ... well, they should definitely go somewhere quieter.

Tris thought he'd get around to proposing that. In a minute or two.

Shifting closer, he moved his other hand to run his fingers through Remus' hair, cradling the back of his head as they kissed. He was rather pleased by the entire endeavor so far, and he grinned a little against Remus' mouth.

It was the sound of a log in the fire popping and cracking that brought Remus' brain back online and he pulled back from the kiss with a gasp and an initially wild look around. By the time he realised that no one was there, reality had come rushing back and the blush crawled up his cheeks as he struggled to meet Tris' eyes.

He felt stupid for being so hesitant and he knew he'd be on the end of some teasing if James and Sirius could see him right now but he just wasn't used to not having to worry about what he was. He wasn't used to not having to hide it and be terrified that he was going to be kicked out if someone did.

But on the other hand, for the first time he finally got why James and Sirius had chased so many girls around. Not that Tris was anything like a girl but the fundamental underlying point was still there.

"I... um." He smiled shyly and licked his lips again. "I... uh, sorry... um, I guess it was pretty obvious I..." His blush deepened and he finished the sentence somewhat lamely and feeling like an idiot. "...haven't done that much before."

Tris opened his eyes when Remus drew back like that, and he wondered if it had occurred to him how public the room was. He stroked the other wizard's hair gently as Remus blushed and withdrew. It was adorable, really, and it made Tris glad that he was ... well, forward enough to initiate things. To think this wouldn't have started at all if they were both so shy.

"That's what practice is for," Tris said before his lips quirked up into a grin. "Lots and lots of practice. As much practice as you could possibly want, just about any time. I have to draw the line at quidditch practices though. Stiff competition this year, and with the matches all crammed up together like they are... well. You know. Can't have anything taking away from time on the pitch. Not even charming lupine blokes."

He cupped Remus' cheek with his free hand, brushing his thumb against his lower lip in a strangely tender gesture. Well, strange to anyone who knew Tristan as the bold, laughing prankster.

"So, what's the plan now then?"

Remus blushed and laughed softly as waves of relief washed through him at Tris' easy acceptance. It was stupid but he hated not knowing how to do something, he hated not being good at things. Okay, yes, there were plenty of things he wasn't good at, like flying and Quidditch... feet belonged on the ground, thank you very much... but that didn't mean he didn't like not being good at them. He was allowed to be illogical from time to time, wasn't he?

His eyes widened momentarily at the implication of what Tris said sank in... then he immediately began to have doubts. That couldn't have sounded like what he thought it sounded like, could it? Though maybe he should take a leaf out of Sirius' book and stop worrying and just go with the flow. He could try anyway.

"I... I'd like that," he said with a smile. He drew in a breath, remembered the Sirius mantra and went for it. "I... uh, I think I need lots of practice."

He leaned into Tris' touch then laughed softly. "Um, we could go.. somewhere else? Somewhere certain people aren't going to walk in on us and be given incentive to tease me for the rest of my life."

"Think their attention span is that long?" He grinned. "Nevermind. For something like that, I bet it would be. S'all right. You can wait until they do something and tease them back."

Where was there to go that wasn't somewhere James, Sirius, or Landon would show up? Lan, of course, would do his own bit of smug 'told you so' teasing if he caught them at it. At least Lan would be quieter about it and not as prone to shouting it across the Great Hall as he imagined James and Sirius might be.

And of course, if they knew, LilyLu would know, and then the whole world would know in half the time.

"Suggestions? I know a couple of hallways that I'm sure LilyLu has shown the foreign kids, so there is that risk. But hell, you probably found all of them, years before me," Tris added. Which was one of those strange thoughts that briefly shoved everything out of sync. To think Remus had known these halls nearly fifty years ago ... disconcerting. He shook it off easily enough though and smiled. "Or we can say to hell with them and just keep at it here."

"Yes... yes, it is," Remus said with dry amusement. "And they're utterly shameless. What makes you think there's anything I can use against them? I've tried it before."

He grinned briefly at the mention of knowing the halls of Hogwarts and he wondered just what had happened to the Marauder's Map. He should ask LilyLu. He was sure that if anyone knew, she would. She probably also knew who'd used it and what they'd used it for. When she got after some gossip, she tended to find out every skerrick of information there was from what he could tell.

He frowned thoughtfully for a moment then cocked his head slightly. "What about the Room of Requirement?"

"Fair enough," Tris said. "Maybe something new will crop up this time around that can be wielded as a weapon against the mighty team of Potter and Black," he teased before he stood up and stretched his arms above his head before letting them drop back down to his side.

"We could give it a shot. See if we beat everyone else to it tonight. Imagine LilyLu's got the foreign kids parading through there. They're probably going to know as much about the school as we do by the time they go back home."

He paused. "You heard it got torched in the war, right? Fiendfyre. Apparently for a decade or so after the rebuilding it wouldn't show up. Or so the stories go. I can't get a straight answer out of anyone about it. At least, not out of any of the professors who were here that aren't teases." He ... had a hard time trusting anything Professor Silver or Professor Chambers had to say, and Professor Capper was borderline on the jests.

Remus looked surprised for a moment then laughed and shook his head. "Might have known that one of our big secrets isn't a secret anymore. I keep forgetting that things have really changed."

He looked startled. "Well, I read that there was damage to the school but not about that. Who on earth was throwing around Fiendfyre? You'd have to be an idiot." He'd read about it, of course, after wangling a pass into the Restricted section out of Professor Flitwick... back when Flitwick was still just the Charms teacher. But the idea of using it was just horrible.

"I know a couple of other places though," he said, getting back to the original topic. He smiled wryly. "We might find Sirius in one of them but there are others."

Tris grinned. "There are no secrets here," he teased playfully. "At least, not once LilyLu catches wind of something."

He nodded slightly and attempted to kick his history brain into gear. "Night of the battle here, 'parently Malfoy and a couple of his cronies were going after Harry, and one of them thought it'd be a brilliant idea. He died for it, I'm pretty sure," Tristan said before he cocked his head. "Pretty sure Professor Goyle was the other one there. Crabbe, I think, was the boy who died." He was pretty sure that was what he'd seen. Or what LilyLu had shared. Honestly, sometimes it was hard to keep straight the stories from the actual history text, and who knew how much of what she was sharing was mistranslation or speculation from what Harry did tell her.

Nodding to Remus, he smiled. "Right then. Lead on and we'll see what we see," he declared.

Remus shook his head and sighed. He recognised the names... Malfoy, Goyle, even Crabbe. But the ones he knew were these people's fathers, not the ones Tris was talking about. Then he frowned. "Professor Goyle was a Death Eater? He doesn't really strike me as being one." It unnerved him a little, the idea of a Death Eater being a teacher here but he supposed that was old habit dying a very hard death more than anything else.

He got to his feet and picked up his book before holding a hand out to Tris with a shy smile. "Give you a hand?"

"Grey area on that one. Think it was more a case of Daddy and his mates being in the thick of things and he was bright enough to work his way out of it afterward. Don't think he was ever ..." Tristan gestured briefly to his left forearm. "You know. Officially in with them."

Tris nudged Remus with his shoulder. "He's an all right bloke, really. Pretty smart about all the forest creatures and if he is secretly a Death Eater still, he's doing a bang-up job of hiding it." Tris winked to Remus before reaching out for his hand.

He laced his fingers briefly with Remus', squeezing his hand gently as he glanced over to the other boy. While he wasn't sure exactly what they were as far as labels went, he was having fun and figured that was enough for now. Whatever came of it later, he'd roll with it like he always did.
