RP: Catching Up
Characters: Tory, Lestranges
Time/Date: late night, April September 21
Location: Lestrange Hall
Warnings/Rating: TBD - PG13 for violence and language, likely
Summary: Tory goes to catch up with old friends. Maybe. Or he'll be killed.
Status: Limited, ongoing

It had taken him significant time to get his ducks in order.

It being so many years in the future, with the Dark Lord dead, he didn't know where he stood with any of his old "friends" and he didn't know who to owl. He didn't know what the situations were like, if he still had access to his vault (unlikely) or what to do or where to go. He'd eventually ended up robbing the odd wizard here or there, both in wizarding and muggle London, thankful at least for the small grace of still having his wand - the Daily Prophet being quick to inform him that some of the wizards didn't have them upon their return.

He didn't notice a page on his own return, which he found useful, but he knew that with his jumping from place to place he'd likely missed a paper or two. The fact that he hadn't given January a name was likely to his benefit - there were not many wizards who could match "Tory" to the names of given Death Eaters.

But even with all of that going for him, he still knew that he could not live like this forever, running around, scared of his own shadow, so he decided to take a chance. He'd heard that Bellatrix Lestrange had returned, and... well, frankly, when he didn't hear of her capture or in the next coming weeks, he assumed that Lestrange Hall may be a safe place to go. It was likely being watched, but once upon a time he'd been keyed into the wards and perhaps that stood even in death.

Or... perhaps he'd set off one of Roddy's booby traps and die horribly. Again. Well, worse things had happened, and he was tired of living like a rat.

So, he apparated onto the Lestrange's front porch (if he could - or as close as he could manage and walked if he couldn't), braced himself, and knocked on their front door, hoping that 'old friends' was enough of a convincer for them to take in strays.

Bella laughed, the sound a little shrill, sharp, sudden in the otherwise quiet room. It was a fortunate thing the house elf was accustomed to her outbursts, or else the tea might have been spilled instead of set carefully on the table.

"Safe?" Her brows arched. "Hardly. But if we wait for it to be safe, we'll be trapped in here forever."

Not that she knew it, but her thoughts were running alongside his. If they could get someone with a brain, with connections, with charisma to run the show ... they could do it so much better this time around.

She, at least, had learned from her mistakes.

Preparing a cup of tea for herself, she gestured for Mulciber to do the same.

His lip curled upwards in a smirk. "You have a point," he said, reaching over to help himself to tea after she offered. He wasn't normally a big tea drinker, but he knew his social graces and that refusing hospitality was more insulting than 'suffering' through a cup or two, so he sipped at the edge of his drink. He vaguely wished for something stronger, but he wasn't going to complain - or ask for it, frankly.

"Senseless, pointless, just plain fun killing or were you thinking you wanted to make some sort of statement?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "A sort of 'beware world - Bellatrix Lestrange is back with a vengeance'. 'Cause there are possibly ways to have an element of safety to it if you're just out for some fun."

They could kill and maim on the night of a full, for example. More than likely, the wolves would be blamed.

"Is there a difference?" she inquired, brows arching. Oh, she knew there was. Fun killing, it didn't matter who saw the bodies. Making a statement, however, required planning to ensure the proper eyes were the first on the scene.

"Either. Both. Suppose the first one until we decide what sort of statements we want to make." Ah yes. We, we, we. Mulciber was here. He was talking familiar talk. Bellatrix counted him among a 'we', and Rodolphus, if he didn't like it, would simply have to deal with it.

She stirred some honey into her tea, gazing thoughtfully (if a bit blankly) off to one corner while her mind twisted and whirled. "Muggles first," she said. "Whether it's for fun or a statement. Muggles first, until we figure everything out."

"Not an important one," he said with a smirk and a shrug of his shoulders. He found with each passing moment, a weight was easing further off his shoulders. This was going better than he'd hoped it would. He wasn't dead yet, and he might even get a few good kills out of it. He was relieved that it hadn't been a completely foolish and suicidal call to show up unexpectedly at the Lestrange's door.

"Can you leave here without assistance, or will the Ministarial Morons be all over you like a bad rash the moment you try?" he wondered how much of their distance from the manner was Roddy's work, and how much of it was based on fear. Because if the majority of it was Rodolphus... Bellatrix could come and go as she pleased with no problem.

If it wasn't... things would probably be a bit more tricky.

"I can. Rodolphus simply doesn't think it is wise. I imagine wounding the Potter child with my emergence back into this world wasn't exactly the best way to lay low." But in complete fairness to her, she'd been dueling with Molly after the elder Weasley had chased away the three little bints she'd been dueling with prior.

She'd been in the heat of battle. She'd seen red hair. It had been a natural reaction, at least to her.

"They'll be looking for me, certainly, but they wouldn't notice me leaving. They don't even know where I am." She smirked at that before gesturing with her free hand. "This is all in the name of Rodolphus' ... pet." She couldn't really think of another, more charitable word for Beckett. "So technically, there are no ties to either of us. Didn't stop them from sniffing around, but ... they've got nothing to go on."

"Shame you only wounded her," he remarked. "Though I can understand it wasn't as though you were given much control. The sudden lack of... battle... was disorienting at best. It's impressive that you managed to escape at all.

"Rodolphus'... pet?" he raised a brow. He suspected Bellatrix didn't mean an animal, though he was curious as to what sort of 'pets' would be allowed to be kept after the mistress of the house had returned. He wondered if Bellatrix would elaborate or ignore him entirely.

He was intrigued by the idea that Bellatrix could remain in her own house with only suspicions that she was there from the Ministry, and really did want to hear how that had been managed, but he wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't elaborated on.

She waved a dismissive hand. "Some witch he picked up along the way to pose as a front so he could hide and act like he wasn't hiding." Bellatrix snorted at that thought.

She understood the logic of that particular situation; she simply didn't like the idea of her husband being driven to ground. "Natasha Beckett. I can't imagine the name means anything to you. She's not that old." Which simply meant the girl hadn't been on their radar - and perhaps not even born yet - at a time Tory would recall.

Sipping at her tea, she drifted her eyes back to him. "Not even badly," she said as she slipped back to the prior topic. "She was out for a couple of days before they managed to unwind whatever I'd done to her. Disappointing."

The name didn't mean anything to him, so he simply nodded, his face displaying no recognition. It was interesting to him, though, that Rodolphus had taken that path. He wondered for how long the man had been 'in hiding' - this entire time? He was likely as batty as Bella by now - and what issues had driven him to employ such drastic measures, though he supposed those were questions for Rodolphus himself, whenever the other man got around to showing himself.

"And she's still here, even with your return?" he said, sipping at his tea for something to do with his hands. "Should we be checking the food for poison?" He couldn't imagine that Beckett had been entirely pleased to see Bellatrix return. He was assuming that Beckett had likely entertained ideas about taking over the manner as Rodolphus' mistress - assuming she hadn't already done so - and Bella's return would have just complicated things.

He rolled his eyes slightly when Bella mentioned the girl's quick recovery. "Well, at least you managed something on the way out. Gave Potter a good scare so that he knows what's in store."

Bellatrix smirked, and shook her head. "It isn't like that. She's not his lover or anything as cliche as that. She happens to be a great fan of mine," the witch continued, the smirk never leaving her lips. She had entertained thoughts of her own along that vein, but ... well, it wasn't like that.

Beckett was simply the public liaison for Rodolphus. Doing what he couldn't.

Shrugging her shoulders, Bellatrix leaned back slightly in her seat. "He knows," she agreed softly. "I imagine the first chance he gets, he's going to want to kill me." She smiled coldly at that. "Let him try."
