Summary: Remus takes stock.
With the lack of classes, Remus suddenly found himself in a strange position: he actually had nothing to do. For once he wasn't scraping two knuts together to rub together. He was actually comfortable with his station in life. There was a woman upstairs who loved him, even if he was the one having issues when it came to finally settling down. He had his health (as for some reason he still hadn't gotten ill) and he had family.
Yet for some reason, he still managed to feel down on his birthday.
He was getting older and here it was, another year. Forty-six years of age. All of his closest friends had long since crossed over, though much before their time and Remus felt like a dying breed. This war had all but wiped out a generation and he felt like a lone wolf trying to find his pack but to no avail.
For once he wasn't at the desk in his study, but curled up on the couch. An open book rested on the floor, leather bookmark holding his place. A cup of now cold tea rested on the table beside his head, both items long since abandoned.
It was his birthday and it wasn't a time to be depressed. Yet at the same time, when Remus was left alone to think and ponder, he often fell into this maudlin state. It was something that couldn't be helped.
Sighing, Remus muttered a warming spell on his teacup and pulled the book to himself. Maybe, just maybe, this year would be better.
