Characters: Terry, Severus (mentions of Poppy)
Location: Hogwarts Infirmary
Private/Public: Private
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Summary: Terry keeps his promise and goes to see Poppy.
Terry had gone to see Poppy as soon as classes let out. He'd talked to her at breakfast, and she'd agreed immediately, after some motherly chiding, to see him that afternoon. She'd clucked at him, and given him a full physical. Terry had spent a good hour being prodded by her wand, and had patiently suffered through a barrage of tests she'd deemed necessary. He'd promised Stephen, and to an extent Seamus, that he'd make sure to get well, and he guessed that included letting Poppy fuss over him. He didn't mind though, it actually made him fell...loved.
She'd finally sent him off to see Severus after informing him she'd be keeping an eye on his eating habits, and that he'd better be in the Great Hall for at least breakfast and dinner for the next two weeks, and she wouldn't hesitate to inspect his plate when he was finished. He was a stone and four underweight, and since he'd never exactly been well filled out to begin with, the weight loss was very noticeable without his clothes, not to mention unhealthy.
She'd asked him a multitude of questions, ranging from his level of interest in everyday activities, to his sleeping habits, to his sexual activity. He'd blushed dramatically through that last part, but had answered as honestly has he could. The questions had also turned to Sophia and Mandy, and the hopelessness he felt when he thought about how they'd died. He'd been horrified when she asked if he'd ever thought of harming himself, incredibly shocked that she'd even asked that.
"Three square meals a day, and I'd like you to get regular exercise as well. At least an hour a day, both cardiovascular and anaerobic. You can split it up if you'd like, thirty minutes at time. The activity will boost your appetite, while the endorphins released will help the mild depression I fear you're suffering from." She'd stroked his cheek at that point, before continuing. "It should help with the sleeping as well, though if you feel you need it, talk to Severus about a mild sleeping potion, something non-habit forming, and safe to take with Ben around."
He'd nodded, and promised to do all of that. She'd scheduled for a check up again in two weeks, and then two weeks after that. She reminded him once more before he left that she'd be keeping an eye on him, and wouldn't hesitate to go to Minerva if she became concerned again. "I let you come to be on your own terms this time," she said as he buttoned up his robes. "I won't be so patient if I think you're declining again." It was both a warning and a reassurance, he realized, and had kissed her cheek in thanks as he left.
As he walked down to the dungeons, he was glad he'd arranged for Dobby to fetch Ben from school and keep him occupied in the castle until Terry was finished, as the appointment had taken longer than he'd expected, and he wanted to talk to Severus as well, about the possibility of the potion Poppy had mentioned.
He'd talked with his son the night before, and explained that sometimes grown-ups forgot how to take care of themselves and needed to be reminded. He'd promised Ben that things would get better, but that he'd need some help. Ben had nodded seriously, and promised that he would take care of Daddy.
"We only got each other Daddy," Ben had said. "You take care of me, and I take care of you." He'd said it with such simplicity that tears had pricked at the corners of Terry's eyes, and all he'd been able to do was kneel and gather Ben in his arms, rocking them both slightly. Ben had made good on his promise, making sure that Terry ate breakfast with him, and admonishing him to bring a snack to school, like he always did.
He was pulled from his thoughts as he reached Severus' offices in the dungeons, and he knocked at the door, waiting for Severus to call out to come in before opening the door. He said hello and stood in the doorway slightly uncomfortably. He wasn't certain if Severus was still annoyed over their sons' 'adventures' a week earlier, but hoped Severus wouldn't mind seeing him.
"Am I interrupting?" he asked. "I can come back if I am."
