Who: Esme and Aaron
What: A chance meeting between an empath and a crazy person.
Where: The first floor.
When: Afternoon
Esme had been wandering Bellum for several days now, searching for...something. What exactly that might be, she wasn't sure. The visions ebbed and flowed, coming faster or slower depending on the time of day, the angle of the sun, whether she had her eyes open or closed.
The ones where her eyes were open tended to be the worst. It was hard to tell what was real and what was part of the vision. Apparitions would appear in her apartment, arguing with one another. A three-headed dog walked through her couch on its way to tear into a man chained to a heavy table that had never, ever been in her kitchen.
Then they would disappear and her apartment would feel empty without them.
She'd been walking down to the basement every afternoon, trying to find the entrance to the catacombs. So far she hadn't been able to locate it. Every time she walked across the basement, now wide and empty looking without all the partitions, she would find nothing but a blank concrete wall. Sometimes she lingered in the alcove where she'd had her last meeting with Emil. She liked it there. It was quiet, and the visions mostly stopped while she hung back in the shadows, listening to the building creak on its foundations.
She was coming upstairs when she spotted the boy. She'd seen him in a vision, running up the stairs past her. She'd reached out to touch him and found he wasn't real, not even slightly. He looked real now, though, and she cocked her head to the side. Her eyes, which lately seldom fixed on anything, fixed tightly on him.
"Hello."
