Who: Joanie and Sam.
What: Talk of tattoos and drinking, more emphasis on the drinking.
Where: Starting at the ink place then off to some bar.
When: Erm. Monday night?
Warnings: Rated PG-13 for language and mild thematic elements.

Sam wasn't exactly sure why he randomly decided to get a tattoo - maybe it was because he was starting over in a new place, a new building, and it was a way to mark a fresh start. But good lord, was he turning into his father with the way he just went through life at random, making decisions on the fly and who knows, maybe tomorrow he would end up having bought a brokedown tractor?

But no, that wasn't it. He could exercise his usual practicality in this decision despite having Issues much like most of the inhabitants of Bellum; he was his own person and he was going to live his own life. It had actually been fun, discussing placement options with Joanie, who seemed very dedicated to 'her craft.' Between the shoulder blades seemed like the best idea - it was covered easily by any shirt he wore, calf tattoos made you look like a tool (Sam was convinced of this), he was not eager to put anything on his feet, and the shoulder was too cliche. As far as what it would be, names were out and so were Chinese symbols because they were so overdone. For some reason, he really liked the Hindi word designs - but what to say, was the question? That could be decided later. He could always come up with something and then ask Joanie to draw it, which suited him just fine. It was officially Booze O'Clock, so drinks were the name of the game right now, and he would wait patiently while she did what she needed to do to close up.

She raised a brow at his very "dignified" comment. For a moment, she maintained a straight face, before dissolving into a combination of laughter and "what the hell?" Looking at him with a very disbelieving expression, she snorted, taking another sip of her beer. "Don't you worry there, Colonel," she said. "A refined lady never mounts anything that could throw her off." She had no idea what that meant, but it sounded funny, and that sort of logic dictated half of the things that came out of her mouth anyway.

"Yes, well naturally it would be a wild ride but getting thrown off would not be in your or my best interest, right?" Certainly not! That was another rhetorical question. "I was just looking for gender parity! I wanted to make sure you wouldn't try to take advantage of me." At least he knew he could have an innuendo-laced conversation without getting bitten. That was always a plus too.

She snorted, raising a brow. "You were worried that I might take advantage of you? If I could, you would have to turn your testicles in to the nearest Man Shop because you would not deserve to have them." And it was true. Though Joanie wasn't short for a woman, she had a slim build, and she was far from athletic. She wouldn't be likely to overpower anybody, unless of course she created a knife out of a napkin.

Sam rolled his eyes, and there came the smirk-laden laugh once more. "Oh yeah. So worried." The sarcasm dripped onto the table. "But thank you for thinking of my testicles. That's very kind of you, to help testicles in need." Hey, if she wanted to give his balls a helping hand, he wouldn't object!

She snorted, taking a swig of her drink. "Well, I see so many guys that aren't using them, and I like to think that ensuring they get a good home is just some form of community service." She raised a brow at him. "Don't worry, yours aren't special."

"We'll see. You might change your mind eventually." He exhaled in a sigh, sloshing the last bit of beer in the bottle before finishing it off. "I'm a patient man, remember? Though you may be right. I'm not sure I'd want you to describe them as 'special.' 'The Junk of Your Dreams,' well, that's a different story."

She raised a brow. Wait. What were they talking about? Sometimes innuendo-based conversations were easy to lose track of. If she didn't know any better, she'd say they were talking about his nether regions. Well that was just peachy. Finishing off her beer as well, she pushed the empty bottle away, pushing her hand through her hair.

Time to divert a bit, lest this not get more awkward. "So is that what you want your tattoo to say? I could look it up in a few different languages, see which one you like most."

Awkwardness was usually not in a person like Sam's vocabulary, but he went along with the diversion from nether regions (and boy, what nether regions they were!) so as not to make JoJo explode or some such. "Tempting," he replied with a straight face. "But I'll have to see what else I can come up with. Or I could just go with one of your fortune cookie sayings. They're so wise."

"Well, you always have a fallback, then," she said, shrugging. She was toeing the line between serious and joking, and doing so quite well. At his mention of her fortune cookie sayings, she snorted. "Yes, well, I try to pour wisdom into all of my work. It might not get used, but at least it's there."

"Dedication to the craft, Josie," Sam congratulated her. "I like that. And you keep on keeping on, despite having to tattoo faces on people's asses or the like. I actually have a theory..." He held the empty beer bottle in between his fingers; it was akin to waving a pen around while making a profound point. "You think that tattoos cover up the ugly. I think that tattoos and body piercings just make someone more interesting when naked. See where I'm going with that? It's an entirely different perspective, and that's all I aim to do: Bring you a new perspective."

The mention of tattooing a face on an ass made her nose wrinkle. Luckily, she had never had to do something that retarded, but now she was terrified of what was to come. Maybe this week some crazy would come in with a picture of his ex-girlfriend and demand a likeness of her on his right butt cheek. Though being a tattoo artist was technically doing a service, Joanie believed that some people should be able to be denied service. Stupid people didn't deserve tattoos.

As he began on his theory, she sat back and watched him, expression critical. Honestly, Joanie couldn't tell if he was a great bullshit artist or just really strange. However, his idea was fairly interesting. She just hated feeling like she was a twelve-year-old getting a lecture. "Okay, okay, I'll give you that," she said, sitting up slightly in her chair. "But why does it have to go back to what the body is when it's naked? I'm sure some people don't even think about it, they just want something to put on their body, to make themselves feel better about it." That's what she'd be doing, at any rate.

It was probably a mixture of both Really, Sam just enjoyed jerking her chain. Hence why the expression she was giving him made his lips twitch in amusement, but he pursed them so he wouldn't easily be given away. "Because I'm a man and it always goes back to that?" he suggested. "You may be right too. I guess it's different for everyone. Is that what you're going for?" He glanced at her. "It looks pretty good to me." Meaning the body, of course.

Oh, right. Currently, three of her four friends seemed to be so terrified of women that the whole "everything gets back to naked" thing tended to slip her mind. Micah was the special exception, but then again, she was a guy so she never had to hear it often.

At his question, she raised a brow. "What?" she asked, momentarily confused. Then it set in, and her face reddened. "Well thank you," she said sarcastically. "I'll fill out a comment card with your thoughts and send it to the committee, okay?"

"Okay," he grinned, playful and a scallywag as usual. "I bet I could fill out more than a comment card though. But I wouldn't want to give you a big head or anything." He folded his hands on the table, leaning over slightly. "At least not until after the second date."

She snorted, folding her arms across her chest. "I doubt that everything you'd have to say is that good," she said, tone toeing the line between joking and serious. "And tell me, why is the second date the cutoff time for giving somebody a big head?" She raised a brow. "And on that track, would that mean that giving a friend a big head is inappropriate?"

"You do what you want with your friends." He shifted in his chair, one arm slung over the back and his thumb and forefinger drummed on the edge. "You know, dish out the compliments. Flowers and rainbows. I just wanted to ensure a second date. You never know what would happen here. I could wake up tomorrow and be Pinocchio." The scary thing is, he had no idea if that were true or not! And it wasn't out of the realm of possibility. "But I guess we'll see how the first one goes, eh?"

The idea of a Pinocchio coming to Bellum was too funny to ignore. Joanie snickered, covering her mouth in an attempt to stop. "Yeah, I've gotta say." She dropped her hand, mouth still pulled in an amused smile. "Being small and made of wood? Kind of a dealbreaker." Granted, she couldn't talk - she was green. "So it's probably smart not to get ahead of yourself, here." She picked up the coaster again, standing it on its corner and twirling it absently. "After all. You never know what's going to happen tomorrow in Bellum."

"There's nothing small about me, Jo," Sam assured his new favorite Green Girl. There wasn't anyone else on the list but say, if Ms. Jolly Green Giant showed up, he'd definitely prefer Joanie. "But just because we're all still trying to make sense of this batfucked life we lead doesn't mean I'm giving up, so..." He looked down at the table and then shifted his gaze to her. The expression was playful, but there was still truth to his next words. "I'll be honest, I feel a little villainous too sometimes."

He sat back and looked around briefly. "You ready?" The thought of going back to the building was not pleasant, but it had to be done.

At his comment, her expression grew grim. She bit her lower lip for a moment, looking down at the table before glancing up at him. "For your sake? I hope you don't." Being a villain sucked. Not only were you paranoid, but also you were constantly wondering why you. Why was she the Wicked Witch of the West? Why was she the crazy green bitch that locked up little girls and made them cry? What had she done wrong?

She nodded at the question. "Yeah, sure," she said quietly, standing up and stepping back from the table. "It's not too far back to the building from here."

"I'm not really the Prince Charming type," he shook his head. And he doubted someone like her would even find that a bonus anyway. Maybe it was interesting to a girl who liked being one of those damsels in distress. "Come on, Josie..." He slung his arm around her shoulders as they exited. "Don't look so glum. Everyone knows the villains have feelings too. Not to mention they're a million times more interesting."

At his comment on Prince Charming, she snorted. "Obviously. You seem to have thoughts, which automatically disqualifies you." Plus, she thought she had seen somebody on the forums saying they were Prince Charming.

As they walked out, she stiffened at his arm around her shoulders. However, the fact that alcohol seemed to make her nicer kept her from shoving him into the street. Instead, she tried to relax, glancing up at him with a raised brow. "If by 'feelings' you mean 'great plans of destroying little girls in checkered dresses,' then yes. I suppose villains do have feelings." She snorted. "I'm starting to think that boring is better, only because you get stabbed less often."

"Thanks." Sam arched an eyebrow. "That was a compliment, right?" Coming from her, he was going to assume it was. "And that checkered dress girl should never have dropped a house on your sister. I'd be pissed too. And I'll make sure no one stabs you." He gave her shoulders a squeeze. "Promise."

At his question, she shrugged. "Maybe," she said aloofly. She wasn't sure if she wanted to start admitting to giving half-compliments. After all, alcohol made her nicer, but not that nice. She had a reputation to maintain, after all.

The shoulder squeeze made her expression cloud slightly, though she ducked her head to hide it. She thought to the last full moon, and how much Javert had hated her. This time wouldn't be any better, but she couldn't just let him run around getting stabbed again. "Thanks," she said, forcing her expression to lighten up slightly. "I'm sure Pinocchio would make a great human shield." She glanced up at him, raising a brow. "Better than Kevlar, I bet."

"Definitely better than Kevlar," he agreed. "Hey, we kindred spirit villains have to stick together." Sam was pretty sure he had always been on the 'evil' side anyway. The terms good and evil were both so subjective. And if desiring to make some sort of difference to the world, and not wanting to go out the same way he came in made him evil, then so be it. "Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow as one of your flying monkeys."

The concept of "kindred spirit villains" made her laugh despite herself. Joanie maintained that she wasn't exactly a villain, just not a hero. She knew she wasn't the good guy, but didn't know why that had to automatically make her the bad one. She was more in the gray area, like the musical version of her story. Not that the green bitch that had spoken over the forums during the last moon knew that. She was pure bile, Joanie could feel it. And that wasn't a very good feeling at all.

"I don't think Pinocchio qualifies as a villain," she said, smirking. "Maybe you can make some kind of henchman, if you're really lucky and put in long hours." At the question of flying monkeys, she laughed again. "Doubt it. That's a hard rank to infiltrate. Only the best of the best get in."
