Who: Cole, Micah and Trenton
What: Moving the prisoner
Where: Catacombs and eventually P4
When: After this
Warnings: TBD

Cole left R1 feeling slightly better than he had before, and the main reason was Peter's involvement. The man was level-headed, rational, and smart. Maybe the situation wasn't entirely salvageable after all. He wasn't particularly looking forward to seeing Trenton again, and he doubted Micah was either, but they couldn't keep him down there much longer. It was a lot less cruel to keep him in his own penthouse, especially considering it probably had all the perks to keep him satisfied for a while.

He stopped suddenly at the second floor, casting a glance at Micah. "Do you have the key on you, or do you need to get it?" He'd seen the lock, and it looked pretty sturdy - which was a good thing, but not so much if they were going to end up trying to break it.

Trenton fell into line like a good little soldier, shoulders drawn with tension while he kept his eyes on the floor. He ignored Micah for a long moment, and Cole didn't offer anything to add as they walked through the catacombs. His legs ached after only a couple of steps, and even the distant promise of being back in his penthouse wasn't refreshing. Great. The scene of the crime. Under house arrest with all of his demons, just what he always wanted. He thought of Isobel in that moment, how he'd instructed her to take the portrait out of his room. It was probably for the best that she was holding it, right now Trenton just wanted to break it in half.

They were nearly out of the catacombs before he spoke, and the words were soft but they seemed far too loud in the emptiness that surrounded them. "I did it."

Micah wished he had a fucking recorder on him, but he didn't. He held open the door to the Bellum lobby, and he looked past Trenton at Cole and quirked a brow at the other man. Maybe someone could take a statement, and this could be done and over with. Wishful thinking, he knew, but still.

"And the girl?" he asked, unsure about breaking the spell of confession, but wanting the truth out in the open before Trenton had time to think it through carefully.

Cole nearly tripped over himself when Trenton spoke, shrugging at Micah as if to say he had no idea why the man was confessing out of the blue. It didn't count, really, considering no one would believe the two of them if he decided to change his story.

In that moment, all he really wanted was the truth. He waited until Micah's question was answered, then spoke himself - his voice wasn't as hard as it had been, and his question was simple. "Why?"

He fell silent for a moment after Micah asked about the girl. He remembered Boyd pleading for him to tell her how Aaron had died, if it was her fault. The memory was stained by later getting knocked unconscious, but it was there. He remembered her screaming, and her crying. She was adamant that she'd told him no. Had she? He couldn't remember, so she must have.

"Yes," he finally answered, and the word was a little hoarse. He ignored Cole's question with just a vague, but determined shake of his head that said he didn't want to talk about this anymore. There was no why big enough. There was no why that made sense, or that he could remember.

Micah pushed the elevator button after he crossed the lobby, and he looked back at Trenton and Cole. He didn't expect Trenton to run, he realized, not any more, and the look he gave Cole over the man's shoulder was unsure about all of this (for the first time). Who was to say they weren't all messed up because of their stories. He knew enough about Dorian Gray to realize it wasn't a good man's story. Did Trenton do this because he was Dorian? Or was he Dorian because he had it in him to do this in the first place?

Cole wanted to persist - he wanted to know why, whether it was simply an accident or something he'd planned - but Trenton's refusal to say any more was enough to keep him from pushing. Any more and he might snap, which would only bring them back to square one.

He realized he didn't know very much about Trenton, and the former impression he'd held didn't seem to match the man he was faced with now. Dorian Gray was in no way a sympathetic character, but it was hard to tell whether Trenton wasn't talking out of guilt, fear of the consequences, or just because he wanted to make things difficult. Somehow he doubted it was the latter. What were they supposed to do now? What if they had the damn trial and he refused to say anything about it? Was this the only time he would confess, when it meant practically nothing in the grand scheme of things?

For the first time he felt like maybe there was no justice to be found here after all. "If it was an accident..." He trailed off, shaking his head. He had no idea where he was going with that thought, and let it simply fade into silence. Glancing at Micah as the elevator began to move, he raised his eyebrows in a silent question.

Oh, now they wanted to know if it was an accident? Again, Trenton wanted to laugh, but he just couldn't find the energy or motivation to do so. Trenton didn't want a trial, and he didn't really see the need for one. He'd admitted it, isn't that what they wanted? Did he really have to be judged by some ridiculous attempt at Bellum justice? He wasn't entirely sure of what it would entail, but it probably had something to do with handing him over to Shane, and no thanks. He suddenly just wanted to get upstairs, and into bed, and hopefully sleep forever. Rosalie really lucked out with her fairytale, that was for sure.

But had it been an accident? Of course, Trenton liked to think so. An accident with Aaron, a misunderstanding with Boyd. What was with all of these trips down memory lane? Trenton recalled when his brother had died, the doctors tried to explain to his mother that it was a freak accident. She'd screamed, and screamed, and screamed. There was no such thing as accidents.

Trenton watched Cole as his words trailed off, the sallow sea of his eyes reading the man, but Trenton said nothing as he leaned against the wall. Until finally, dropping his attention to his cuffed wrists, he jangled their links. "Can we take these off or what?"

The elevator door opened on the penthouse, and Micah walked out first, leading the way to P4. "Once we're inside," he said, not really surprised that Trenton didn't acknowledge that it might have been an accident. Micah had seen it all, however, in his mind's eye. If asked, he would tell the truth. He wanted justice, but he wasn't going to lie about it.

It didn't help that this damn building confused him every time he blinked.

Cole gave up after that attempt, wishing that things were as black and white as he'd once thought they were. It would be easier that way, easier to let his hatred and his anger wash away anything else whenever he looked at Trenton. He didn't want to pity him, didn't want to feel guilty; and he kept quiet as they walked towards P4. He still had no idea how they were going to keep him in there.

When the hell did things get so complicated? He followed the other two inside the apartment, wincing slightly at the sight of the door as they passed it.

Trenton tongued the edge of his teeth as they made their way past the busted up door and deeper into the penthouse. Strangely enough, everything looked exactly he'd left it. Not that Trenton could remember leaving it, as he'd been unconscious at the time, but everything looked like it was resting in familiar places. His flatscreen was still playing on mute, although the program was something he didn't recognize. There was still blood on the floor from his initial confrontation with these two. He surveyed the living room for a moment, but it was a place of violence and everything bad that had ever happened, and Trenton took a swift detour into the kitchen. Surely they weren't going to stop him, it wasn't like he was running back out the door.

Functioning with handcuffs had taken some practice, but by now, Trenton was nearly fluid with it. He would have preferred to have them off, as he wasn't entirely sure of how to put on a clean t-shirt with handcuffs, but it wasn't a big deal.

Although.. it should have been a big deal. Trenton, like Dorian, relied heavily on his appearance. And while it bothered him that he was looking like one of the lower rungs of hell, the whole 'being out of his cell' thing was so new that he just wasn't going to sweat the small stuff yet.

He opened the fridge, and with some effort, wrangled a corona loose from it's case before walking back through to the living room. He didn't have much to say as he sank onto the couch and leaned back against one of the pale corners. He dug a lighter out of the seam between couch cushions, and used it to pop the metal cap off of his bottle.

"Beer?" He offered with a glance to Micah. "Capri sun?" His attention swayed to Cole, who he just didn't pin as a drinker. Even if he hoped both of them fucking choked on it, Trenton knew that the best way to get them out of his personal space was to be civil.

It worked, at least with Micah.

"I'll be in the hall, so don't even think of leaving," he said, taking a minute to go and pull the fire escape ladder off its hinge, and then leaving P4.

It was going to be a long stay in this damn hall; Peter, he thought, better hurry.

Cole had no reason whatsoever to want to stay in the penthouse longer than necessary, and once Micah left he was in close pursuit. He only paused long enough to shake his head wordlessly at Trenton's offer of a drink - which he doubted the man expected either of them to accept in the first place - before leaving the apartment and pulling the door shut the best he could behind him. He didn't have the handcuff key, so there wasn't much he could do about those.

"How long are you going to stay out here?" He asked Micah once they were both outside, presumably out of earshot.

"Until Pedro gets back and fixes this shit," Micah said, and he waved Cole down the hall. "Come relieve me in the morning."

He thought briefly that they might be putting too much pressure on Pete, but the man was capable - much more so than either of them were.

"Alright." Cole raised his hand in a sort of half-wave before heading down the stairs, intending on getting as much sleep as he could before taking over guard duty.
