Who: Rosalie and Shane
What: Fun talk
Where: The hospital
When: After this
Warnings: Probably some drug mentions, maybe some bad language. Shane is D:

It had been a long 36 hours or so for Rosalie and it wasn't looking to get better soon. Daniel had never called and she didn't know what that meant for Ella. The talk with O'Malley hadn't gone great and she could only hope that she hadn't gotten one of her friends in trouble. She had fallen asleep eventually and upon waking, had been informed by an apologetic looking nurse that Boyd had been moved but Rosalie had just looked so tired that she couldn't bring herself to wake her up right away to tell her. Rosalie, who still didn't trust Boyd to not try to sneak out on them and try to distance herself again, thanked her quickly and rushed off to CCU.

She had been in hospitals often enough that it was easy to find her way there. Or it would have been if her head hadn't been spinning. Two minutes were spent talking to a guy in the hall long enough for him to buy her a muffin from a vending machine since she had eaten even less than she had slept. It helped enough that she was able to get to the CCU wing. It took another few minutes to find a nurse that wasn't busy, so that almost as soon as she started to ask if she could see Boyd now, she spotted a different familiar face, looking less than happy, walking out of the unit with his hands shoved in his pockets. When had Shane gotten here?

"I'm sorry, I have to go--" she apologized vaguely to the nurse and broke away to intercept him. "Shane?"

"But if she took--" her protest was caught up in another rush of lightheadedness and she lost it. "Daniel wouldn't ever say anything like that." She shook her head, a little defensive now. "And I wouldn't either; it would be so--" hypocritical was how she meant to end the sentence, but she wasn't quite able to say it. "I wouldn't."

She barely understood what he was asking then and shrugged. "I found her at the bottom of Daniel's stairs." She gestured at a little spot of air in front of her. "Boyd took a lot. She had to have been close." With her other hand she made a level openhanded sweep over the air next to the spot, trying to indicate the area that Boyd could have come from. "And above the seventh floor. Probably Deluxe floor or above. It would have been hard to motivate her to move very far. And she probably wouldn't have wanted to climb many stairs." Why would she, when everything was warm and safe and numb? Now Rosalie was just repeating what she had told Daniel earlier and she barely even registered Shane's criticism of her appearance.

"She didn't take it," he corrected distractedly. "The injection wasn't self-administered." He'd made sure of that when he spoke to Daniel.

He quieted for a moment, running through what she'd said. Deluxe or above--he wasn't that familiar with the residents of the Deluxe and Penthouse floors. Vlad he knew, of course, but he wasn't into drugs to his knowledge. He doubted there was much reason for a vampire to bother with them. And there was Deirdre as well, but she just didn't seem the type, even though they didn't know each other well.

Then it struck him.

The man in the penthouse. How could he have forgotten? When everyone in the building had picked up memories from one another he'd come across that one, of a man in one of the penthouses who had gotten Boyd high and had sex with her before rejecting her and sending her running out.

It couldn't be anyone else. It was too similar to be a coincidence. That man, whoever he was, had felt so little regard for her feelings. That was a man who would be capable of going further, doing something even worse.

"Who lives on the Penthouse floor aside from Vlad and Deirdre?" He was so involved in this revelation that he didn't consider Rosalie might never have met Deirdre. But there were only five penthouses, weren't there? That certainly narrowed it down.

Rosalie didn't see how he could know that since no one had told her any of this, but she took his word for it. Or at least, she was too exhausted to contest. She rubbed her forehead when Shane went quiet for a few moments and thought about what was going to happen. It seemed like everyone else knew more about what was happening with Boyd than she did and Rosalie didn't know if that was because they did, or if she had just been too caught up with things and situations that she had been trying so hard to leave behind that she had missed some of what was happening.

"Trenton," she answered immediately. Deirdre must have been the woman who had come out of P1 when everyone else had changed to their fable, because as far as she knew none of the other penthouses were occupied. "He's P4." Did cocaine, she knew, which was why she had thought of him briefly before. "Don't know how she would know him."

"Trenton." He didn't think he'd ever spoken to him. Certainly not face to face. That was going to have to change.

His name crystallized in his mind. Well, now he knew exactly who to focus on. Trenton in P4.

"I don't either," he said absently, dialing back. "Seriously, Rosalie, you should go home. How long have you been here? I can stay."

If Rosalie had been thinking straighter, she might have realized what Shane was asking exactly and at least tried to make sure that Trenton didn't end up dead. But he didn't seem as angry anymore so she didn't say anything, instead trying to count back. "More than twenty-four hours?" She knew that much at least, even though it came out sounding like a guess. It was after daybreak now and they had gotten here not more than a couple hours after midnight yesterday. She shrugged but shook her head at him, swearing soft and breathlessly in French when the movement made her head spin again.

"I'm staying until I can at least talk to her," she insisted, a thread of resolve pushing its way through the hazy fatigue. She had to talk to her. Because Boyd wasn't taking care of herself without them and she had almost died and Rosalie hadn't even seen her since. What had happened hit close enough to home that even if it had been a complete stranger in the hospital room, she would have stayed until she could at least see for herself that they were alright. "I'm fine."

Alright, now she looked like she was going to fall over. "At least sit down," he said, gesturing to a chair more exasperated than angry now. He had a name, which calmed him a great deal, made it a little easier to keep himself in the present.

Rosalie had to think about it for a second before realizing that sitting down was probably a good idea anyway. She moved towards the chair. "Okay? I'm fine. Go back to Bellum and make sure they found Ella."

"She's missing?" he shook his head. "Never mind. I'm going to go back and get a few things and come back. Do you need anything?"

The anger seemed to have dropped out completely, with a little guilt in its wake. Maybe he shouldn't have jumped on her so readily.

"Apparently. That's why Daniel went back." Rosalie opened her mouth to tell him that she was fine, but changed her mind. "My apartment's unlocked. There's a purse on the table near the door. Can you bring it? Or at least my wallet?" Food would be nice. So would a photo ID if the police came back.

"I can do that," he said. His hands went back into his pockets, and he turned to head for the door. "I'll be back in less than an hour."

"Thank you." Nodding at him, she went slowly back into the building and made her way to where Boyd had been moved, hating how hard it seemed to be to even walk. Right outside the hallway to the unit, her phone vibrated and she fumbled for it and saw that it was Daniel. Leaning against the wall as she answered (because the room was moving around her again and she didn't know if she could take another person trying to make her go home) she couldn't help the small measure of relief she felt, under the fear about what he would tell her.
