Fables Plot Public Post!
Who: Public
What: The Open Post for Public Threading for the Epic Fable Plot
Where: Throughout the building.
When: 12:01
Warnings: Any number of crazy things could end up in here.
Notes: Alright! This post is for public threads only, and will be run party style. Anyone can jump into a thread at any time--just use your judgment! Feel free to hop around, go to different parts of the building, and mingle through the madness.

12:01. The beginning of a new day, just broken in, still fresh. Most of the building was sleeping, as decent people ought to be at such an hour.

The building, down at its foundations, was restless. A storm had been gathering for the past week, in its joints and its doorways, in its windows and its keyholes. 12:01, the storm broke over Bellum.

It was as if the building stretched, yawned, shook itself. There was a shudder in reality, as if the air itself was nothing more than a funhouse mirror. Faster than you could snap your fingers and the thing was done, set into motion before the darkest hours of the morning had yet come around.

A twitch, a snap, a static shock.

And then the changes started.

((OOC: Alright guys, go crazy! Feel free to post your location in the header of your comment so people can do a quick visual scan for the right comment and the right location. Mingle! Chat! Fight! Tackle one another!))

It shouldn't have surprised her that the frog could talk. After all, Daniel had been able to talk. It did though, and she sat down on the stairs next to him, watching him curiously, all thoughts of checking on Beauty and the Beast vanished. Having grown up in cities and tall buildings, she had never actually seen a frog before. Pictures, certainly, and she knew what they were. If she thought about it, it wasn't even that surprising that there was one here and now, with whatever was happening in the building. But even so...a talking frog.

Realizing that she hadn't said anything, Rosalie shook herself and tried to cover up her surprise. "Hello?" It came out more unsure than she meant it to. "Did...did a witch do this to you?" It seemed like a reasonable question for the circumstances and Ella had sounded so sure when she had spoken of them earlier that it was the first thing that came to her mind.

“Hello,” Stefan replied back, giving her the best facsimile of a smile he could manage in this form. He was glad that her initial shock had worn off so quickly, even if it was replaced by confusion. “It was, indeed, a witch who laid this curse upon me.” That felt correct, although he couldn’t pinpoint why she had in the first place. It didn’t seem like witches needed rhyme or reason though. He took a hop closer to her, already cursing the height distance between them.

“You should pick me up so I may better speak to you,” he asked, his own bit of persuasive magic lacing his otherwise plain command. Usually when the frog told people to do things they would, some with less resistance than others, but eventually they would concede. He assumed this woman wouldn’t be much different.

The corners of her mouth turned down in a slight scowl. "Was it Vaughn?" True, Ella had said that she was Daniel's witch, but that didn't mean she couldn't go around turning other people into things too. Turning someone into a frog was just the sort of horrible thing she would do.

Rosalie could feel the magic, although she didn't know that that was what it was. It smelled like roses again, but ones that had been out in the sun too long, just past their prime. The scent was familiar and cloying in the back of her throat, but less intense then it had been when she had kissed Piper, mostly because the magic wasn't as strong. It did make her sneeze though, and she forgot what he had even asked. "I'm sorry, what was that?" she inquired politely, rubbing her nose with the back of her arm and wishing that the smell would go away.

“Vaughn,” Stefan repeated the name but it didn’t sound familiar at all. “No. I do not believe it was her. I take it she is a wicked witch as well?” He wondered if she knew many. Or if there were simply many that roamed. Already there was the one who ensorcelled him, and this Vaughn she spoke of. Who knew how many more there were.

She didn’t seem to be responding to his command and if he had the face for it, he would have scowled. The sneeze must be what was impeding upon his ability. He would try again. “I said, you should pick me up. And you can tell me why you know so much about witches.” Perhaps this second time would work better than the first.

Rosalie tilted her head back and sneezed again, twice. "I'm sorry," she told him, rather bemusedly. "There's all of this magic going around and it smells like roses around me and-" she broke off to sneeze again- "it wasn't affecting me before, but I guess it is now." Again, she didn't pick him up. It wasn't that she minded it, exactly, but it wouldn't hurt him to actually ask instead of ordering her around. She did smooth out her skirt for him though, tapping a knee. "You can sit here, if you'd like," she offered. "Do you have a name?"

Stefan would've eventually gotten around to simply asking her, once the surprise wore off. She seemed unaffected by his attempts, even somewhat sensing them, and that had him on his guard. “Thank you,” he said gratefully and jumped up to perch upon her knee. He still would have preferred to see her closer, but this was better than on the floor. “They call me... Stefan.” It took him a while to remember his name, for he couldn’t recall anyone calling him that in this form. “And what is your name?” He paused and then asked carefully, “Are you a witch?” That would make sense, considering her immunity to his efforts.

"I'm Rosalie," she told him, hoping that he wouldn't deny the fact like Ella had. She was Rosalie, she knew she was. "And I'm not a witch. I'm...La Belle au Bois Dormant, I suppose, if you meant the fairy tales." Amid all of the stories and strange happenings, the desire to keep that fact a secret had gone away, and Rosalie didn't mind telling him.

"It's nice to meet you, Stephan." She tilted her head down at him slightly, curious. "Were you always a frog in your story, or did you get turned into it from another story?" There was a frog in Thumbelina, she thought, and the Frog Prince, but it was possible too that Stephan was just a hapless fable who had gotten on the wrong side of some sorceress.

“Bois Dormant?” He repeated her words back in perfect accent, but the confusion over their meaning was clear. English was familiar to him, and he was aware that if he tried, he could speak another few languages, but the words she spoke didn’t register. “I meant only a name that which I may address you.” If he thought it strange that she had a few names to choose, he didn’t show it. He rather liked being called Stefan, but supposed Frog was a name he would have to occasionally respond to.

If Stefan could have properly shrugged, he would have. As far as he was concerned the beginnings of his life and story were fuzzy to him. They had never been the important part. “I was – am - not a frog, but a man.” He lifted his little head up as smugly as he could muster. “It is a princess I must find. She can break my curse.” He thought that he should ask Rosalie if she had seen his princess, but realized he was at a loss of what she could have looked like. “Do you know any princesses?”

"Sleeping Beauty," she explained. To Rosalie, the story and the idea that she was part of it was most acceptable when she thought of it in the original context. "Call me Rosalie, please. I was- am, I mean, a princess. Not your princess though. Different story." She thought about who she knew from the building. Boyd wasn't a princess and neither was Ella. Evelyn? That was a possibility. There was Lotte too, but as a dancer, Rosalie thought it was more likely that she was from a book. "I can try to help you find her, if you'd like?"

Sleeping Beauty was a name he dimly recognized and it prompted another question in him that was thankfully immediately answered. She was a princess! All his problems would be solved! He wondered why he hadn’t seen it before but easily assumed he had been too distracted by her beauty, and her lack of crown, to have realized her true nature.

“There is no need to find anyone. It is you who could help me.” She seemed to know a great many things that he didn’t, like who were witches and who weren’t. And she kept talking about stories and other princess. Perhaps she knew his curse and how to rid him of it? That would certainly help him, as he was unsure how to delicately broach the matters of promises and companionship. “Is there something that you need? Something that I may garner for you? Anything at all and I will do my best to provide.” That was how this was supposed to go, he thought. She would ask for things, he would acquiesce, and she would be his companion. His luck was finally turning.

"How do I help you?" It seemed strange to her that he wouldn't want to go after his princess, at least to know the person that had been connected to him in his story. "I mean, I don't really need anything at the moment, thanks, but I'm not really doing anything. I can help-" look up fairy tales about frogs who were once men? Rosalie didn't know exactly. It seemed like helping to free Stephan from an enchantment would be a nice thing to do anyway. And she didn't have anything else planned.

How could she help him? That was a tricky thing. He knew he needed to show his worth in some fashion, but if she didn't need him, what then? "Perhaps we can find another princess who needs assistance?" He was slightly put out that she didn't need his help, but only slightly. She was different than most princesses that he knew (Did he know many? He wasn't sure of that anymore either.) "I believe I am doomed to my form until I can find one who would be mine.
The frog fidgeted, puffing out in slight nervousness as he contemplated telling her what little he could remember. She already said that she wasn't his princess, though. What harm could be done?

"I believe I must prove that I am worthy of her, even as I am in this state. And she must wish to be with me, and remain true to her word." Was that it? There might have been more, but that's all he could remember. Stefan gave a slight hop but remained on her knee, unable to hide his eagerness at this new quest they found themselves starting. "Would you help me find her? My princess, whoever she may be? I do not know any in this land. I have only recently traveled through." That part struck him as an important thing to tell his new friend. He was new to her lands and would need a guide.

Doomed to his form? Rosalie didn't like the sound of that at all. She chewed on her bottom lip and thought about it. It sounded like he was looking for a damsel-in-distress, but specifically one that was a princess. "Of course I'll help you," she told him. "And I should probably tell you about the city too, if you're new." She assumed that was what he meant by 'this land'. Even if he only meant the building, it was still a big strange place for a frog. "Do you have any idea where you might want to-?"

An idea came to her and Rosalie nearly jumped up before realizing that that would upset him. "Um. Do you mind if I pick you up?" she asked the frog, hoping that he wouldn't be insulted. "It would be faster."

"I am new, as you say. I came to visit so I would very much like to hear about this place," Stefan seemed to nod slightly. He kept remembering snippets of someone he should be staying with, but their name and face weren't coming to mind easily. All of his thoughts were interrupted when she came to some conclusion. "Not at all," he said simply for he wouldn't mind being carried. Hopping suited him fine but walking would certainly be faster. "Where are we going?"

Rosalie held out her hands and waited for him to climb on. "We're going to my apartment!" she explained, standing up carefully once he was on and starting back down the stairs. "Although, really, I'm not exactly sure how many people will remember how to use a computer if they're all like this." With the hand that wasn't holding him, she made a vague sweeping gesture that encompassed the building, indicating that it was the cause of whatever she was talking about.

"So, you're in New York." Rosalie paused there, trying to think of how to explain it simplest. Most fairy tales didn't include things like taxis and skyscrapers. "Which is just a big city. The biggest in the country. And then, this building we're in is an apartment building called Bellum Letale. And it's funny, most of the time. In the peculiar sense of the word." Glancing down to check if he was understanding her, she smiled at him.

Once she held out her hands, Stefan hopped into them immediately, pleased she wasn't shying away from touching him. He was surprised that they were going to what sounded like her home and if it showed across his amphibious face he wasn't aware. He didn't let himself think too much on it, or the strangely familiar terms she kept using. He trusted her; she seemed to know what she was doing. "And who rules this New York?" After a moment consideration, he asked a better question, "Who rules this building then?"

This was going to be complicated. "Well, New York City- it's not a ruler per se, but the mayor is Michael Bloomburg. We don't really have actual rulers here, you see. You can come and visit, but you don't have power in the government. We fought a big war about it, like, 200 years ago." Rosalie got off on the seventh floor and subtly pulled her apartment key out from her bra, where it had luckily stayed despite the clothes change. "And the building used to have a landlord, but he got fired or something so now it's kind of crazy and lawless." That statement made her frown a little as she opened the door and carried him inside.

He was just about to argue that lack of rulers could lead to chaos, when she proved the point with the building itself. She was frowning but didn't seem otherwise too concerned about this problem. "Surely something could be done about this," he pondered, wondering if this was part of his purpose. If his princess did live in these lawless lands, then she would need protecting. He could and would do just that, once they found her. Now inside he was distracted as he looked around. "This is your castle?" he asked, clearly humbled that she was nice enough to take a stranger into her home.

"Probably. But it would be up to the owner and I don't actually know who that is." She shrugged. "You get kind of used to it." Rosalie set him down on the counter and brought her laptop over. "I'm going to ask if there are any princesses, okay? I can't promise anything and it might take a while for people to respond, but going door-to-door seems like it might be...dangerous. So we should try this way first." Although she glanced at him to see if it seemed acceptable, she started typing anyway.

"It's not a castle," she grinned at him. Rosalie was getting that a lot today. It was nice, but it wasn't even close. "But I do live here."

Stefan seemed to frown slightly, as best as his features could muster. "That does not sound like something one should get used to," but he kept his voice to low mutters. Once she started typing, he hopped closer and stopping beside it to peer at the screen. He couldn't quite make out what she was doing, or writing, but somehow he knew this was a communication tool or sorts. How he knew this, or how this item did that, were not clear. He just assume magic. So very handy, magic. "Are there any?" he asked quickly and curiously as soon as there was a lull in her typing.

Once she said it wasn't a castle he blinked and awareness seemed to spread over his face. So it wasn't one, how hadn't he seen it before? But just as quickly as the thought came, it started to fade and he shook his head. He wasn't going to argue with her. "It is lovely," he reassured her. "Thank you for bringing me here."

After a lot of deleting and rewriting, Rosalie finally posted. "It really might take a while," she told Stephan, sounding apologetic. "I don't know how long this thing might last. The blackout only lasted a couple hours, and it's already been over seven." Her face turned worried for a second as she thought about what might happen if it didn't end and the changes to her friends were permanent. Daniel would turn back into a human eventually, she thought, since Ella was already half in love with him. Vlad would be stuck trying to kill all of his friends. She didn't know if Boyd or Ella would even remember her.

Trying not to look too sad, she turned back to the frog. "In the meantime, is there anything else you would suggest?" Right now, Rosalie just wanted to do something that would take her mind off of all of this.

Stefan himself, despite his excitement, was less perturbed by a long time frame. He couldn't recall how long he had been a frog, but it had felt like a while. His life as a man seemed very distant, so surely he had been a frog for some time. A little longer wouldn't hurt him too badly.

When she turned her attention back to him he hopped back to look at her properly. "I... I don't know..." Was there anything else that she should know to help his plight. "I only woke a little before we met. As soon as I saw the bed was empty I left in search of a princess." He remembered the feel of the sun on his skin and he fidgeted uncomfortably. "Fair Rosalie, is there a pond nearby that I may swim in? A cool well perhaps?"

Enough people seemed to be able to use a computer, but no one had any useful information about a princess. "Boyd- my friend- she says that maybe it doesn't have to be your princess. But I don't know exactly how it would work then." Her voice was distracted, and she was frowning at the computer screen like she didn't like what it was telling her at all. Silly, reckless Boyd was going to get herself killed.

"A pond? Not around here, unless you want to go all of the way down to Central Park." She tilted her head at him thoughtfully. "How much room do you need? I have a bathtub," she offered him. Besides not feeling much like walking all of the way down to the park, she didn't quite trust the water not to poison him either.

The idea that it could be someone other than a princess never occurred to him and he was too distracted by this notion to see her frowning at her computer. "So it could be anyone then..." Stefan wasn't sure if that helped matters any. Not that princesses were easy to convince in the first place, but now the one he needed could be anyone at all? This was going to take a while. "Are there any other fair maidens in this building? Any that you think could be the I seek?"

"Not too much room," he reassured her. "Just a bit of water to cool myself. A bath would be more than enough," he could picture a bath in his head and that was much bigger than what he needed. "Even a large bowl would helpful. I do not wish to press upon your hospitality anymore than I already have."

"I don't know if anyone-" she started. "It might just have to be a princess, just not one specific to your story. And we've got-" she glanced at the screen- "a queen and a duchess, but no princesses." Abandoning the laptop for the moment, she walked over to the sink and plugged the drain before turning the water on. "Will this work?"

The sink was large, larger than a bowl at least. Rosalie leaned against the counter and watched it fill up with water. "What is it exactly that she has to do?" she inquired slowly. "Because I can try, maybe, but I can't promise it will work. I'm just the only princess I know right now."
