Fables Plot Public Post!
Who: Public
What: The Open Post for Public Threading for the Epic Fable Plot
Where: Throughout the building.
When: 12:01
Warnings: Any number of crazy things could end up in here.
Notes: Alright! This post is for public threads only, and will be run party style. Anyone can jump into a thread at any time--just use your judgment! Feel free to hop around, go to different parts of the building, and mingle through the madness.

12:01. The beginning of a new day, just broken in, still fresh. Most of the building was sleeping, as decent people ought to be at such an hour.

The building, down at its foundations, was restless. A storm had been gathering for the past week, in its joints and its doorways, in its windows and its keyholes. 12:01, the storm broke over Bellum.

It was as if the building stretched, yawned, shook itself. There was a shudder in reality, as if the air itself was nothing more than a funhouse mirror. Faster than you could snap your fingers and the thing was done, set into motion before the darkest hours of the morning had yet come around.

A twitch, a snap, a static shock.

And then the changes started.

((OOC: Alright guys, go crazy! Feel free to post your location in the header of your comment so people can do a quick visual scan for the right comment and the right location. Mingle! Chat! Fight! Tackle one another!))

Daniel failed to see how meeting in the lobby would have made this particular experience better. He was much more irritable in this larger form, and the smell of walking dead made him even grouchier than usual. He wasn't as freaked out as he could have been, largely because he didn't have a dream these days that didn't feature him on four legs with fur. None of them had featured fantastic agony beforehand, but maybe this was a nightmare with fun new aspects.

As Rosalie joined him on his side of the barrier, he wound around her like an extremely large cat, quite as tall as she was. He poked a very cold wet nose to the back of her neck just to make sure that she was in one piece, sneezed, then squinted back at Vlad through the thorns. He growled at him again, and backing up to give himself something of a runway, he sprang over the barrier. A tiger's tail would probably have helped the endeavor, but he had a bear's stubby one, so his balance was just a little off. He shorted it and rolled through some unhappy thorns before scrambling to his feet. The scratches stung through his fur. He ignored them in favor of Vlad, who he charged the moment he had the wits to do so.

When Vlad touched her cheek, she was momentarily confused. He wasn't a wolf. Wolves were the things she was supposed to be afraid of, weren't they? Not friends with such big.... fangs. She raised her fingers, and she touched one of Vlad's fangs curiously, without fear. It was the same thing that led Red to stray off the path, you see, this fearless curiosity. His fang was sharp and-

When Daniel scaled the thorns she paused, confused. Wait, if Daniel was worried... she stepped back, back until her back was against the hallway wall. This wasn't right. She shot Rosalie a look, then discounted her on the other side of the thorns.

"You two quit right now!" she yelled when Daniel charged Vlad. "You're friends, you fool things," she added with a stomp, her basket slipping to the floor. She stormed toward them both, and she pulled on fur. "Quit!"

As soon as Daniel leaped the hedge of thorns, Rosalie pushed her way back through fully, meaning to catch him and get him back, and then get Boyd through the thorns. Things changed when she saw the fight. Daniel was going to tear Vlad's head off the way he was going, and however scary Vlad was acting right now, Daniel would regret that in the morning. Or if this ever wore off.

Boyd was tugging on Daniel, which left Rosalie to try to subdue the vampire. Or protect him. She pulled furiously at his shirt. "Vlad."

Seeming to sense the danger they all were in, the thorny vines were coming out of their tight walls to wrap sharp tendrils around all of the parties involved. "Boyd, look out!" She tried to tug the girl away from a vine and glared at it, half frightened, half angry. "Arrête! I don't need your help!"

Boyd's lack of fear puzzled him - Rosalie wasn't even near him and he could sense her fear, whereas Daniel was just exuding anger. But with her, there was nothing but curiosity. Shouldn't she have been afraid of him? After all, he was... he was...

Who was he?

Vlad frowned, his hand still outstretched as Boyd backed against the wall. What was he doing? Why was he thinking about sinking his fangs into her throat, warm blood rushing forth and--

His sudden confusion vanished as Daniel leapt over the wall of thorns, and instinctively he turned towards the beast with a snarl. Despite his lack of sustenance he was still more than capable of fighting, and when he got close enough Vlad lunged forward to meet the beast's attack, fingers curled into claws and digging into his fur.

It took a few moments for him to realize that Rosalie was pulling at his shirt, and his attention snapped to her, teeth still bared furiously. He looked at her, eyes narrowed, but then something deep inside him clicked. Rosalie. Vlad tore himself from her grasp, backing away from the three of them. His jaw clenched with the effort of holding himself back, fangs piercing his lip and drawing blood. "Get away from me," he hissed; the best he could manage. In another second he'd be on them again, because he was hungry and they were his prey, and no amount of willpower or friendship was going to be able to change that.

Daniel had no real intent to tear Vlad's head off. (He owed the man a lot, and that was no way to settle a debt between friends.) However, he certainly didn't smell alive the way he was supposed to, and if in this nightmare Daniel was on four legs and Vlad had fangs, Daniel wasn't going to let Boyd--who he thought of as relatively helpless as it was--stand around in the hall way while he put his clammy dead hands all over her. His charge ended with his weight colliding hard into Vlad, led by one bearish shoulder. He kept his own claws and teeth out of it with the barest strings of his control, but an inch of fang was clearly visible as he brought his head back around in retaliation for Vlad's sharp scratches.

Boyd wasn't nearly strong enough to haul Daniel back with arms alone--the thought was laughable--but Daniel was barely aware of Rosalie and Boyd's immediate presence nearby. Impatient with their interference, he twisted around to bat Boyd's hands away, claws withdrawn and toes spread. It was like being struck with a very large warm pillow. Soon free, he swept a paw to one side and shoved Boyd behind him, after which he completely ignored her in favor of lunging forward and catching Rosalie by the back of the shirt with his teeth, hauling her back from Vlad like cats drag off errant offspring.

Boyd did not approve of this batting around and being placed out of harm's way. Didn't he realize she was going to fix things? Humph. She looked at Rosalie, who was a fellow cub-mate in this strange scenario they found themselves in, and she sigh-sulked. "They ain't gonna listen to us," she told the other woman with fearless calm. If there was just a woodcutter somewhere, she thought, everything would be fine.

Pause.

But no, he would kill them.

That wasn't right.

She picked up her basket, and she threw it at Vlad's head. "Don't you eat him!" she screamed, though fear at the concept was absolutely not in the tone of her voice.

She wondered what it would be like to have fangs. Grandmother shook her head disapprovingly. Sigh. She never got to have any fun.

Rosalie didn't appreciate Boyd throwing her basket at Vlad when she was trying to get them to stop fighting any more than she appreciated Daniel using his teeth on her pretty new dress. "No, they're not," she agreed, and then without warning, she wrapped her arms tightly around the girl and pulled her through the hedge of briars, using her taller form to protect Boyd as the plants melted away and then regrew again. Two seconds and more than a few scratches later, both women were on the other side.

Now that she and Boyd were safe enough that Daniel wouldn't have to preoccupy himself with their safety, Rosalie bit her lip and tried to look back through the brambles. Both men were two big, even without their current changes, for her to bring through the thorns the same way she had Boyd. Vlad had held back from hurting her and Daniel seemed to be trying not to use his teeth, and she thought they might be alright for a couple minutes if she went to get help to get them out. "How long do you think they'll be okay in there together?" she asked Boyd, prepared to jump back through the thorns if she had to.

Rosalie leaned back through the brambles until she could see Daniel's fuzzy form, and repeated the question to him. "I need to go get someone who can actually deal with these thorns," she explained. "To get you out. Will you be okay?" Because Rosalie wasn't about to leave if they were just going to rip each other to shreds the minute she walked away.

Vlad was trying to will himself into going back into his apartment and possibly barricading himself inside when he felt Daniel's weight against his chest, and even though he could have fought back, he chose to let the impact send him stumbling backwards against the wall. Something was very, very wrong; but attempting to figure out what sent bolts of pain across his forehead like someone was slicing open his skull.

He was Vlad, and he didn't want to hurt them - not even Boyd - and for a moment he believed it; but the next it was gone and he was Dracula, not this Vlad person, while the beast was an obstacle and the females were prey. A low growl escaped his lips as he took a step forward, his body torn between resisting and giving in. A heart that should have been beating was still, and lungs that should have been heaving with effort were empty. Yet he was still alive... how?

He looked up just in time to see Rosalie and Boyd disappear behind the wall of thorns, leaving him alone with Daniel. Vlad let out a roar of frustration, eying the beast with a sort of desperate hatred. "Get out of my way, Daniel," he spat furiously. "You cannot keep me here - do you know who I am? Do you truly think you can stop me?"

Yes, that was it - everything made sense now. He was Dracula, and he'd been asleep for far too long. Now he'd awoken to claim what was rightfully his: everything.

Daniel flinched back as the basket hit the wall, and he rolled one eye back to give Boyd a look that was utterly Daniel. Then his attention went back to Vlad. He was too focused on him to really get a feel for the hallway other than its narrow shape--he couldn't see where the thorns began or ended. The human blue eyes were lost in the delicate shape of the feline skull as Daniel lowered his head, doggish ears pressed back against his head, teeth still bared. Rosalie and Boyd were utterly ignored; it was if they had not spoken. Yet he backed a little toward them, clearing just enough space for Vlad to get past him in the hallway--if he wanted to walk past those teeth. "You'll regret this, Vlad," Daniel said, in a voice like hard stones grinding together in oil. "When you remember who you are, you will." It was unfortunate, but Daniel's concern was R1 and the people in what he perceived to be his space. It was very beastly, and not unlike Daniel during the darker days of his imprisonment. It was only safe there, and Daniel made it safe with his presence. He couldn't keep it safe while Vlad was there--yet like him, he ignored some quiet part of himself that would have acted differently if full human thought was at his disposal.

Boyd smacked at Rosalie, wishing she had another basket to throw. "Quit asking questions and go do whatever you're gonna do," she said, then she frowned across the thorns. All the fun was happening in there, and she was over here.

Here there was nothing but Rosalie, and Rosalie had no fangs, and no growling, and she was a girl. And Boyd thought this was all very unfair, especially when there was an adventure to be had and she wasn't the one having it.

Rosalie hesitated and glanced once again the thorns before coming to a decision. "I'm not going down too far; yell really loudly if they get bad, okay?" She had to at least try to get someone to reverse her brambles. And the only person she knew who had said they could do anything with plants was Ella. "I'll be right back. Stay here and keep safe," she told Boyd. Then she grasped the bottom of her dress, hitching it up above her knees and gathering up the extra material so that it wouldn't trip her. She nodded once, glanced briefly at the thorns that held the transformed men captive, and took off quickly, praying that Ella would be in her apartment.

Vlad made no move forward initially, head cocked to the side as he listened to Boyd and Rosalie talk. The redhead would be easier prey, so foolishly naive, but the blonde would have been a nice challenge. Both would make formidable brides, he thought, although the redhead might have been less controllable-- first, however, he needed to deal with Daniel. To completely dismiss him as a threat would be foolish, and that was something he was most certainly not. Rosalie was leaving, to get some sort of help, and this was his chance. "Who I am?" That swift confusion came upon him again, and he hesitated. Why was Daniel calling him Vlad? Unless... he was Vlad Dracula; that conclusion satisfied him. After all, he had no pulse and no need to breathe, never mind fangs and a distinct desire for human blood. What he was seemed to be a much more apt description than who.

"I know who I am." The beast's name and the man he'd once been was fading from his mind, replaced with something else - a sudden need to find Mina-- no, Helena. Lucy and Jonathan might be with her, but that was no problem. He did need to feed, after all. "Do you know who you are?"

He kept close to the wall, his eyes never leaving the hulking creature that practically filled the hallway. If he made even the slightest move to attack, Vlad would be ready for him. The thorns posed another problem, but he was immortal, wasn't he? A few cuts and punctures wouldn't kill him, not unless thorns could stake his heart and decapitate him, which he doubted. Not even that Van Helsing had been able to accomplish such a feat. "Boyd, dear," he called, his gaze never wavering from Daniel, "How would you like to help me find some... friends of mine, once I get past these dreadful thorns?"

"I'm just ugly with big teeth." Daniel opened his mouth wide, jaws gaping, teeth gleaming. His tawny fur stood on end, and he watched Vlad through eyes that were slits of distrust. "I've lost more than this. I'm not as I was, but I will be me." He spoke as if through a thick accent, all oddly shaped lips and long tongue. His head made as if to turn slightly when Vlad said Boyd's name, but when he got through his provocative question, Daniel snapped the air inches from Vlad. His teeth clapped together with a sound like a vice closing. "She stays!" he roared at him, immediately shifting his bulk between the redhead and the vampire. The way through the thorns was clear.

[after this]

Ella rounded the stairs to the penthouse level in a swish of inexpensive yellow, and she looked down at Rosalie, who was still climbing, her dress much more elegant than hers, and therefore harder to maneuver.

The wall of rose brambles was much taller than Rosalie had indicated. A hedge? And she couldn't see past them at her height. Looking through the thorns was a girl with a red hood, and even though she couldn't see the girl's face, she knew it had to be Red Riding Hood.

She wondered if Rosalie understood that bringing down the thicket meant freeing the vampire on the other side, but the longer she stood still, the more her own thoughts started to fade, replaced by home and father and dreams and portraits and enchanted castles and-

If she waited much longer, she wasn't sure she would have her wits about her enough to even attempt this insane feat Rosalie seemed certain she was capable of.

She walked up to the thorns, ignoring the curious look the girl beside her directed in her, and she closed her eyes and touched them. They didn't prick her hand, didn't draw blood as she expected. Instead, the sharp points under her fingers melted away into whisper-thin rose petals, and the scent of roses flooded the hallway as the entire wall of briars dissolved into a harmless pile of petals.

She looked back at Rosalie, who had just rounded the stairs. "It worked!" she said, barely hearing Red Riding Hood's happy squeal as she ran to the vampire on the other side, and not yet noticing what else was over there.

Deirdre had been listening at her door, trying to figure out what was happening on the other side, but the still-falling snow muted any sound that tried to filter through. At times she thought she heard voices yet, but there was no way to be sure without opening the door. At least she hadn't heard again whatever creature had made that awful noise earlier. Probably trolls, she thought, they're forever making a racket outside my castle. Something didn't seem quite right about that thought, and she tried to chase it away with little success.

Finally pulling her shoulders back, drawing herself up to as regal a height as she could be while barefoot, she undid the lock on her door and turned the knob. The second there was even a sliver of light from the corridor, the icy wind kicked up around her again and sent a drift of flakes swirling outside. It only increased the more she pulled her door open.

It took a moment for her eyes to adjust from her dim rooms to the light of the hallway, and the shock of it brought sense back to her for a moment. People gathered near the stairway, the remains of a thorn hedge falling to the ground, and...

It was the creature that made her step backward for a moment, blinking before her chin tipped up stubbornly. It was not trolls, but they were still too close to her castle.

The entire wall of brambles disappeared under Ella's touch and Rosalie smiled at her, impressed and relieved and a little closed off. "You did amazing," she said, before making another noise of alarm as Boyd ran to Vlad.

She walked over to Daniel and put a hand on his back, running it along with the vague intent of making sure he was alright, that no blood or anything came up from his fur. The sound of a door opening caught her attention, and her hand tightened against his back as a woman with red hair that Rosalie had never seen before stepped out of an apartment.

"Hello?" She said it politely, but there was an audible tenseness underneath.

((From here.))

He'd already lost one meal tonight, and the wolf didn't intend to lose his second. He'd been following the girl's scent up the stairs, and up and up, past other people on other floors, ignoring them completely. Many of them would have been perfect prey, slow or confused, but he knew that the scent he'd caught was the best out of any of them. The sweetest, the most satisfying, the one he was meant to chase down. He had fleeting thoughts about a grandmother, somewhere, that he needed to kill first, then negated that. He'd killed her already.

That gave him pause. When had he killed the grandmother? Then he brushed it aside. He'd killed far too many to remember them all, she could have been anyone.

The scent got stronger and stronger, until, finally, he reached the penthouse floor. He came over the top of the stairs, padding quietly toward the group gathered there. Nowhere to hide, here, and he was on his own. He'd separated from his pack a long time ago.

He needed to get her away from these people (some of whom looked vaguely familiar) and the great....thing at the other end of the hall. It smelled off, unnatural, not like any creature he'd encountered before. He felt he could take it if forced to, but that would be a lot of unnecessary trouble.

All he could see was the red cloak, but he knew he had the right girl. He'd chased her in dreams before, the ultimate in prey, innocent and trusting, and too curious for her own good.

He stalked forward, brushing past her friends as if there was nothing unusual about a giant wolf in the hall, playing friendly. Just a big dog. If he remembered rightly, she'd been fooled by a mask of harmlessness sometime before.

By the time Boyd noticed the newcomers, she was leaning against Vlad's side, staring up at his mouth in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the sharp, pointed fangs. Pretty.

Rosalie petting Daniel didn't surprise her, but for once she didn't mind it- Rosalie and Daniel didn't want her to have any fun.

She cast a look of disapproval at the redhead who opened the door, trying to decide if her hair was a prettier shade of red. In the end, she decided it wasn't and she discounted the woman completely. The woman who'd turned the thorns in petals was backing away, which meant she was unimportant too.

"Who we goin' to see?" she asked Vlad, a sweet smile on her lips.

Then she saw the blackness of the wolf stalking toward them. Grandmother said run, and a memory said this wolf had betrayed her before, and she screamed at the top of her lungs.

Vlad, Daniel and Rosalie were forgotten as she ran around the circle to the stairs and down. She had to get away from that wolf.

The beast's sides were heaving over his ribs by the time Rosalie returned. There were too many people in the hallway at once, and his new senses were confusing enough. His sight was a lot worse, but his sense of smell was better, and so was his hearing. There was another sense that was more on the back of his neck under his fur than anything, and it was that one that made Daniel bare his teeth at Vlad. He tried to catch Boyd as she ran past with teeth snapping at the back of her dress, but he missed.

Daniel had come out on the wrong end of a few thorns, and he had enough adrenaline moving through him that he had barely noticed the sting from Vlad's new claws; most of his wounds were forward, on his shoulders and chest. Shallow though they were, the wolf could probably smell the blood well, because Daniel could certainly smell him. He lost his head entirely when he saw the other animal, which was fifty times the imminent threat of the dead body with fangs that kept talking. His sense of smell was overwhelmed by the abrupt influx of rose perfume and the conflicting presence of four different women, so he ignored it. There was a ripping, tearing sound as Daniel dug his back claws in and scrambled over the carpet in the narrow hallway, springing after the wolf, in the hope he could catch it before it turned entirely after the fleeing red hood. He wasn't going to make it, he realized but by that time he was skidding to a stop at the top of the stairs down.

All the vague shapes of females standing around better get out of the way.

Vlad snarled furiously in response to Daniel's roar of protest, but the scent of new humans made him pause. Rosalie had returned, and with her was a woman he recognized but couldn't place-- what he did know, however, was that the new addition brought forth a distinct rush of hatred. Whoever she was, he wanted to kill her; and once the damned thorns were out of the way, he would.

He watched as the wall turned to nothing but soft petals, his grin sharp and feral. Boyd ran to him as soon as she could, the foolish girl; and an arm snaked around her waist in outright defiance of everyone else present. The fools thought they could dare to order him around and succeed? He would take the girl right there in front of them all, and woe if any of them tried to stop it. But before he could brush aside the cascade of red hair that shrouded her neck a door to his right opened, and another redhead - this one older and more regal than Boyd - stepped out. My, my; he was very fortunate tonight, wasn't he?

Vlad opened his mouth to answer the girl at his side when a sudden familiar scent took him off guard, and he turned just in time to see a hulking black wolf shoulder its way past Rosalie and the other one. Wolves had always been at his beck and call - the two in his apartment were proof of that - but there was something wrong about this one, something that caused him snarl at the wolf in warning. It was pointless, however; in an instant Boyd had vanished down the stairs with the wolf in close pursuit. For an instant part of him considered giving chase and getting rid of the animal, but in the end he stayed where he was. The new redhead was spared a curious glance, but his attention quickly focused on the brunette in the yellow dress.

His movements were slow and languid, almost panther-like as he moved towards her; head tilted to the side. What was her name? He knew it, he just couldn't--

Ella. It came to him suddenly, a dull red light appearing in his eyes. How could he have forgotten? Somewhere within himself he realized that he didn't want to hurt Rosalie and Boyd, nor Daniel; but even within his rational part he didn't like this woman. Unfortunately for her, it was only emphasized in his vampiric state. "Ella," he breathed, his fanged smile the furthest thing possible from friendly.

The Beast was the first thing Ella noticed when Rosalie moved past her, (how could it not be?) and she had started backing toward the stairs instinctively. Something inside her knew it was Daniel, but another part that was much more present in this moment was telling her to run. Father had said she didn't need to stay, and the Beast hadn't actually told her to, and if she just backed away slowly, and oh, God, how tall was he?

When Red and the wolf ran by, they were within inches of her, and when Daniel followed and slid toward the stairs, she had the good sense to back away, eyes wide as saucers. She shot Rosalie a look, and she tried to lecture herself. You're Ella. You're not someone from a fairy tale. You aren't even from this fairy tale, and-

Then Vlad spoke. That drew forth some recognition. She didn't like him, and he didn't like her. And he was Dracula. Dracula. She had to warn Helena, and-

When he moved toward her, her chin tipped up defiantly. The Beast was blocking the stairs down, and Dracula and his fangs were advancing on her. She felt trapped, and she looked back at the staircase heading to the roof.

Very slowly, very deliberately so as not to draw too much attention to herself, she backed up slowly, then she climbed one step, then another, then another.

The commotion in the corridor had made Deirdre stop in her doorway, hand still on the frosty doorknob, and watch. The flurry of creatures, the sudden appearance of the Wolf and the Beast, caught her breath in her throat, and when she finally breathed out again after the flurry of movement stilled, it came out in a frozen fog. She had no idea what was happening, confused and a little frightened, and the pieces of her own life, that she so often tried to forget and push away, were only too happy to disappear almost fully in favor of the thoughts of the Queen.

The overpowering scent of roses made the Queen wrinkle her nose in distaste, even as she watched the man stalk toward the woman in the yellow dress. She knew none of these people, and wished to keep none of them in her castle. For the moment, however, their actions roused her detached curiosity, and she stepped out of her home, the carpet nearly hot to her feet after the chill of the snow. After several steps, she stood tall, watching, her interest especially caught by the man.

She laughed softly to herself as the woman in yellow began to back away, and sent a frigid gust of air circling around everyone. Her voice was soft and controlled when she spoke, catching on the wind, "Your quarry is attempting to escape you."

Rosalie did not have the good sense to back away from the beast, or perhaps, being aware of the other threat behind her, it just seemed less important. "Daniel!" She ran to him, tugging hard on his fur, and trying to bring the other issue to his attention. Vlad was advancing on Ella and all of his fangs were showing, and oh God, he didn't like her much even as a human, did he?

"Boyd will be fine! Shane will take care of her, you know that." She, at least, had bought the friendly dog act. Rosalie pulled at him again, harder, knowing that he was the only one here with enough power to stop Ella from getting eaten. She dug her fingers further into the fur, gripping it at the roots.

Strangely, she wasn't afraid. This was Daniel, and however much he might snarl and growl, she was quite sure that he wouldn't hurt her.

She meant to tug again, but the gust of cold air caught her instead and she shivered against his fur. Goddamn it, who was this woman, because she wasn't helping in the slightest.

"As soon as he moves away, try to escape down the stairs," she ordered. One less person to look after.

There was a lot of name shouting going on. The beast was having a lot of difficulty trying to reign himself in from finding someone at random to tear into just out of sheer frustration. The wolf got away, and if the woman would stop screeching for a minute so he could figure out what to do, because obviously he couldn't go down after him, since he had to stay here. Enraged at this invisible barrier that only he really comprehended, he moved from one tiny edge of the stair to the next, staring down long after wolf and girl had disappeared. After a few seconds with his chin low near his paws, he seemed to give in, and finally turned around. The woman that smelled like fake roses (everything smelled like roses, but this was a sort of old rose smell, rather than a new rose petal kind of smell, and that was as far as he thought it through) was still pulling on his fur, and he was at a loss as to why.

He lumbered around, finding one hundred eighty degrees to be ridiculously difficult in the circumstances, and tipped one floppy ear up toward Rosalie after barely avoiding squashing her against the wall. What? Oh. Oh. Right, he was supposed to listen to the words. It just took him a minute to get there. "...he moves away." Oh, was he in the way? The blue eyes turned from Rosalie to the snow woman in the doorway. She didn't smell quite dead, but she certainly wasn't the right kind of alive, either. He snorted the winter scent out of his black nose, and then strode down the hall back the way he had come, so Miss Ice had enough room to go where she chose.

It took him a moment more to even notice that Vlad was still present.

Vlad had somehow managed to restrain himself from attacking Boyd and Rosalie once, and a deeply buried part of him wished they would have listened when he told them to get away. Idiots, all of them, deserving of whatever they got. Stupid for thinking the wolf would do anything other than eat the redhead - oh, he knew exactly what was going to happen to her. The beast (Daniel?) should have gone after her, but it was too late now.

He knew the beast was distracted and therefore kept quiet, his footsteps making no noise at all upon the ground. It was all too easy to focus on the scent of blood, and he could practically taste it on his tongue. Soon, soon... so close. If he'd tried, really made an effort, then he might have been able to stop himself. If it had been Helena, he would have; but he didn't care about this woman. He didn't even like her, so the motivation just wasn't there.

The redheaded woman and her snow caught his attention in a way very few people could. There was no cry of outrage, no hint of concern about the fate of his prey. Vlad smiled, momentarily looking away from Ella. There was something different about this woman, and he decided he wouldn't feed upon her - not yet, at least. It was rare that he ever found someone else intriguing. Her generous warning caused him to snap his gaze back on Ella, and without warning he lunged towards her, teeth bared and aiming for her throat.
