Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:cinderella

Who: Daisy, Hannah, Li, and anyone else who feels like it
What: Moving Daisy's things
Where: Lobby and the stairwells
When: Post-lights, early afternoon
Warnings: Five flights of stairs, four letter words, three girls (to start), and etc, etc.

Daisy closed her laptop with a smile of satisfaction, pleased with her lemons-to-lemonade transformation of the afternoon. Her things were still in haphazard piles on the lobby floor but she's made a number of new friends. New York friends.

After stuffing her laptop into her back pack, she plopped herself down on the slightly dirty floor of the lobby, leaning against the wall. The elevator sat opposite of her, doors open, taunting her, teasing her, seducing her. Try me, it said, all siren-like. I swear I'll be good this time, it promised. I won't take you to the eleventh floor three times in a row, it swore.

Miffed, Daisy blinked, annoyed, then stuck out her tongue.

Hannah shrugged, shifting the box in her grip. "Probably. Well, not in the building - except I think one of the girls might've been on tv or something once, I'm not sure. But a lot of famous people live in New York, and they film some tv shows here and such."

Daisy paused upon reaching the fifth floor to catch her breath, then she waddled down the corridor to her apartment, dropping the box with a crash. She winced: she'll have to send an apology note to her neighbors.

"I'm dying to see someone famous." She grinned sheepishly at Hannah. "I'm a little bit of a culture vulture. And people watcher." Her grin turned sharper. "And you'll have to update me on building gossip!"

Li looked almost more uncomfortable about gossip than she did about the building's more dangerous rumors. She had no stomach for it, good natured or not. She tried her best to smile, feel apart of the conversation but had very little to add. She busied herself walking, helping, lifting.

A culture what? Hannah smiled back, although it faltered slightly at the mention of building gossip.

"Oh... well, I'll try. I don't really know anyone yet, though. The anonymous posts - every other Wednesday - are full of gossip. It's not the nice sort, though. Mostly they talk about the man on the roof and a redheaded girl." She felt sort of bad for both of them, reading what people had said, even though she had no idea who they were.

"'Man on the roof and a redheaded girl'?" Daisy repeated. "Sounds like a promising romance novel." She grinned and shrugged, then started after Li, feeling guilty about how much work the other woman was doing.

"Are the other residents friendly?"

Li nodded. "So far almost everyone I've met is very friendly. But you should leave the gossip alone. I think the man on the roof wants to be left alone so people give him a hard time. It is too bad."

"Oh, I didn't mean-- not them together." Hannah shot an uncomfortable glance at Li, not having meant to spread any sort of gossip. Secretly she related to the redheaded girl, since people had talked about her being on medication and seeing a psychiatrist, two things she knew far too much about.

"I haven't met many people yet." After the anonymous post she couldn't bring herself to say she was sure everyone was friendly. If that was how they spoke about each other, then they were just like all the others.

Daisy nodded as both new acquaintances grew serious and she flushed a little, embarrassed by her callous curiosity.

"I'm too nosy," Daisy admitted sheepishly, and she followed Li back down the stairs, Hannah after her. If Li continued her power streak, Daisy imagined they all only had one more trip up.

"My parents are just super protective," she announced after a moment. "I was Girl-in-a-Bubble until high school, basically." She shrugged but bit her lip, nervous. "Everyone seems to have a more exciting life than me."

Li accepted her apology with a small smile, "Exciting is not always good."

In the lobby, Li hefted up another set of boxes.

Hannah felt slightly guilty, since Li was clearly doing most of the work; but she didn't seem to mind very much, really.

"Li is right. There's the good kind of exciting, and then there's the... other kind." She shrugged. "Not that I know much about that, though." The girl-in-a-bubble comment hit too close to home, reminding her of the way her father had been before everything.

"That's what my parents think," Daisy sighed, and she traipsed up after Li. "Really, I don't want much. Just a little excitement." She grinned at Hannah over her shoulder. "The good kind of excitement."

Her mind chewed over the implication of 'the other kind' of excitement, though, and Daisy almost tripped again as she turned up the second flight of stairs.
