Oh, god; I haven’t used a computer in so long… why am I even doing this? I don’t want to meet anyone. I don’t even want to be here.

I noticed that this seems to be the mode of communication here, and new tenants use it to introduce themselves, so I guess now it’s my turn.

I’m Hannah, and I just moved into 1004 a couple of days ago. I know not everyone is a fan of animals although I can’t see why so I guess I should let the others on my floor know that I have a dog. He’s only a puppy, really, and doesn’t bark very much at all, so I don’t think he’ll be a bother. That doesn't give you permission to complain if you think he is, though.

Well… that’s about it.

...

Oh.
I look forward to meeting you all.

That's...nice. Most do it for the money. Or can't.

Not yet. I've been busy.

I should be looking for a better paying job, but

Most people are selfish. They don't care about the animals, they just want to look good to hide what's underneath.

You're smart to wait, then. Far too many people are stupid enough to think they have the time when they really don't.

And some don't even bother. I'm not sure which I hate more is more annoying.

What? You're regretting it?

I hate both.

No, of course not. But I've seen people adopt animals and then bring them back weeks, or even months, later. Like they can just... be returned once the novelty wears off.

Or as if they don't believe the animal forms any attatchment. Or more of one than the human itself.

Exactly. I know how they feel, and it

It makes me sick.

...glad to hear I'm not the only one. Most don't get it.

It seems like I'm you're we're the only ones sometimes, doesn't it? The human capacity to be cruel stopped surprising me a while ago.

They're the only species to kill or hurt out of something other than neccesity.

... I didn't think anyone else thought like that

Yeah... yeah, exactly. And people are so good at hiding their true motives behind lies. Animals are honest.

Something people aren't 98% of the time.

[The reply comes the morning after the anonymous post]

Considering the sort of people living here, I'd bump that up to 99.8% at least.

That sounds a bit kind, honestly.

I can't even bring myself to find it even a little distressing. These anonymous posts are just a confirmation of what I already know - that's what people are really like, underneath their false exteriors.

I like having proof that I'm right. I guess it has something to do with the fact that most people tend to tell me I'm crazy messed up too negative.

That's what I told my psychiatrist. She didn't buy it.

Exactly. People have a hard time understanding that, but someday they'll end up learning the hard way.

Falling flat on their face or being disappointed. It's better to be prepared.

I wonder how many times the people here will have to fall on their faces or end up being disappointed before they get it.

Tragic. I'll bet most are firm believers in the phrase 'ignorance is bliss'.

They say the same thing about death, so there's little truth in that.
