TO: Daniel Webster (needapenname@netmail.com)
FROM: C. Davis (davisc@publishinghouse.net)
SUBJECT: Copy?

Mr. Webster:

This is the latest in a series of e-mails where I make repeated, futile attempts to contact you.

Your agent, Mr. Quinn, has been unable to inform us of the status of the first draft of the thriller that is past due us. I am employed as a copyeditor for the Publishing House, and I have been assigned to handle the manuscript exclusively, in an effort to expedite publication of the past due work.

I've read your previous novels, Mr. Webster, and am very familiar with your writing style. I feel we will be able to work very effectively together to address any issues plaguing your current endeavor.

Upon reception of this e-mail, if you would please reply to let me know that you have received the information I have repeatedly provided. If you require anything during the writing process, I am available to assist in any capacity.

Sincerely,
C. Davis

I don't think so. You might be ugly, evasive, cranky and terrible at taking criticism, but I don't think you're boring.

Thanks for the ugly. I really needed that.

You're supposed to respond by trying desperately to prove to me that you're God's gift to womankind.

Nothing to prove.

Because you're so confident? Or because of something else?

And when do we get to talk about that story we're writing?

IT'S NOT YOUR STORY.

That was easy.
