[Obviously, this occurs several days after James comes to see him. In that intervening period, two unfortunate thugs had to go on sick leave because some junkie jumped them in a back alley--and, miraculously, the two managed to break three ribs, dislocate one shoulder, shatter an elbow, break a nose, tear several knee ligaments with complicated names, suffer severe concussions and acquire numerous cuts and bruises. Oh, James going crying to you now too? I already talked to your employers about that. I didn't know about it, and I didn't ask them for it. They saw her at the club getting all riled at me, and you know how Mikey can be. I don't ask the Family to fight my fights for me, Rick. I'm plenty of capable of breaking her nose my ownself if I feel it's necessary.

She came to the club, and she told me who she was, and she'd been on Shane's lap, and we argued. It wasn't intentional, and I had no idea anyone got sent after her until it happened. I went and told Mikey off about it, and he swore he wasn't behind it either, but I don't trust that far as I can spit. Now, you go on and bully someone else around, because I just don't got the energy for it anymore.

You know, my grandma died when I was 12, and no one from the Family came for me. They left me with this awful foster family, where I was living in a basement with no lights and no heat. The next time I saw any of them, was when Mikey's daddy came and had his way with me, to show me who I belonged to. I was near sixteen. And now, now they'd kill my ass soon as spit on me if they didn't think I had money tied to me they could find. So don't go assuming I'm in this cause I want to be. And I won't go assuming you're working for them cause you like the way they do things.

Now, how about we leave each other be, you and me?

I didn't tell you that for your pity. I told you so you'd understand why I didn't like the Family, and why I wouldn't use them to go after anyone. I ain't made anyone hurt. I even told James to stick around for the job she was asking for if she wanted to, so don't go accusing me of things that just ain't true. I don't do that to you, do I? This wasn't my fault. And I ain't gonna throw stones at James, because that don't matter. What matters is I didn't set the Family on her, and I didn't talk to no one about her.

You been inclined to hate me since the first day we talked. This is me telling you fine- hate me, Rick. I'm done trying to prove I ain't what you seem dead-set on me being.

Nothing, no. ~~Though someone was supposed to take care of things in regards to that situation.~~ Has James had any more trouble? I haven't seen her around the building since that day. ~~I've been frightened to~~ ~~I'm told it was to do with the mafia and~~. I believe they mentioned a local crime family during the attack, but I wasn't their target.
