South Dakota :

Blunt - Named after a railroad official John E. Blunt. (Nope, it wasn't because of a rolled doobie or being frank and straight to the point. Just a man officiating the road of rails.)

Akaska - No, it isn't Alaska misspelled. It is a word from the Sioux meaning 'Uncertain'. (I wonder if they were uncertain about the white man.)

Made an appointment to discuss Jasper's future with our vet. So tomorrow I'll know if he gets treatment or if the cancer is such that it'll be time to give my old man cat hospice cat.

Ob July 7th it'll be a year since my five year old cat passed away too.

I'm hoping that it's treatable but the fact that the eye removal didn't contain all of the mass that did turn out cancerous.

Ketchuptown - Originated from the “catch-up” meetings local farmers would attend.(Nope, it was not named after the tomato condiment.)

Ninety Six - There are many theories about the this name. One, the territory is ninety six miles from the Cherokee Nation. Next up (and I think more likely) It's the Ninety Six became a seat of power in the British colony.

Jasper's biopsy results came in

He has melanoma. The sample in the lab showed they didn't get it all.

Don't know what we can afford. Still hurting after Miso's surgery not even a year ago that cost 7k.

Jasper also has kidney disease so...

Waiting to see what our primary vet says.

Asylum Township - French aristocrats moved from Haiti to the town, and stayed there until Napoleon let them back in France. (Yup, a bunch of rich people hiding from their government.)

Bird-in-Hand - According to legend, two road surveyors discussed whether they should stay at their present location or push onward to the township of Lancaster. One of them supposedly said, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." (The town, though relatively small, has an interesting history filled with Quakers, Swiss Mennonites and the Railroad.)

Oregon :

Sublimity - A settler named James Denny suggested the name because of the fine vista and sublime scenery in the hills around the town. (After looking at images of the town and the surrounding area... I agree with. Stunning would also work.)

Boring - Named after William Harrison Boring and is the sister-city of Dull, Scotland and Bland, New South Wales, Australia. Gravity Falls and Everything Sucks is based on the city. (Hmm, I have never seen either of the shows, but the city is beautiful.)
