Kyra studied the tapestry before her with a skeptical eye. Her knowledge of the Targaryen history was sketchy- she knew the first few and the last few but the ones in between were questionable. Nonetheless this was clearly one of the middle ones, conquering Dorne from the looks of the background. Must not have lasted long, she reflected, since someone else had to start marrying the Martells to keep it in line. She lost interest and went on to the next. It was best to learn about things you didn’t know, especially here. Celia would never listen when Kyra suggested that- but it was the weakness of Starks: they seldom looked beyond their own borders and so they forgot what the Wildlings and Boltons did not. Of course the current Lord Stark did seem to remember the world did not end at the Twins, which was a bit inconvenient. Kyra recalled when Selester had said the Citadel believed William was the closest to the throne: she’d waited until she was back in her rooms to start laughing. Too bad he wasn’t as obligingly stupid as his wife, or it would have been an even better jest.
A sound of footsteps drew Kyra from her reverie and she turned away from the portraits to see who was coming.
