May 23: Cleaning House Who: Kaelyn Stark, ? Where: The Tower of the Hand When: May 23, morning Rating: PG Status: Open
Kaelyn breathed a sigh of relief as the door closed. The last of Rhaeys' servants was gone, though the lady's sobs were going to be harder to put out of her mind. Really they were servants- a bit less emotion would be more becoming. So their family had served here for as long as they knew- they should have expected that change must come. Change always came, especially when you were too comfortable. There would be other households. She would not let the dragons' puppets near her family- she hated the look in their eyes. Constantly looking at them all, thinking to themselves how much better Rhaeys was- even if he was a traitor, or how more suited Princess Aenyris was... Kaelyn scowled. She had pitied Aenyris during the regency but the girl' was probably mad. And still they would choose her...
She was forced to keep a few of the old servants- the senior members, who knew something of the Tower. At least for now. But soon the new ones would have the way of things and she could rid them all of the last bits of the previous Hand's household. Kaelyn stood and stretched, the faintest trace of a smile on her face. At least this much was done, and soon there would be more to do.
A bit of parchment caught her eye and she picked it up again- a letter from Hester. She seldom spoke of her family but she dutifully wrote every so often and was forever relieved it was Hester to wrote back and never Vianna. Arrys had left the Vale, and now the plague seemed to be back once again. Of course the Eyrie would be safe, it was always safe. Kaelyn read over the letter again, her thoughts turning back to her current dilemma. She would have to lower herself, lie and make pleasantries... but perhaps it would be worth it, if she could convince William to send Genna to foster. If not with Lily, perhaps with the Arryns, or the Tyrells. Her young cousin would one day be Lord of the Reach- that might be a prize great enough to induce William to agree to a betrothal.
