Arrival Who: Arrys Arryn When: Backdated to May 12 Where: King's Landing Rating: PG Status: Complete/Closed
When Arrys Arryn reached the outer gates of King's Landing it was with great relief, despite the stench of the city already assaulting him. It had been a long, cold journey from the Vale to which he had lately returned to work at appeasing his father's lords, and he was weary and longing for the comforts of civilization. His belly ached for food fit for a lord rather than a traveler and his limbs, sore from his least favored activity of riding, could do with a good soak in a hot bath.
It was those thoughts which kept him upright in the saddle as he and his accompanying guards and attendants made their way through the city streets, putting on a noble and smiling face for the few peasants who bothered to look as they passed. Here, he supposed, they were used to processions of lords and ladies far finer than he, unlike the towns and villages he had passed through on his journey. And unlike those in the Vale, they did not know him. Very few here would know him, in fact, even among the lords and ladies, as he had been a frequent visitor some years ago but never one who stayed for long enough to become a figure of any power at court.
It was a refreshing and yet irritating thought. He would have to build his reputation and power anew in this place so soon after returning to his own home to reaffirm his standing with the lords there, though the offered position on the king's Small Council would guarantee him at least some of that, but he would have the advantage of being able to explore the court and all its intrigues while remaining a relative unknown. A truer smile stretched his face at that thought--it would be interesting to see how the pieces moved in court with the new king on the throne, and how he could fit himself into its workings without too much notice.
The Red Keep loomed high and close above him, coming ever closer as they continued, and he laughed quietly at the thought of what might await him within--a young king, a new court, and so many unknowns still to be found out...his would be an interesting stay.
