[to Team Science: Hope, Jane, and Scott]

Got a message from Strange, which is always a bucket of freaky fun. He said there's a growing instability he's noticed on the astral plane (wow, what has my life become?) and if we want a shot at trying to run scans to identify any fluctuations, now's the time.

It's probably going to be like monitoring an active volcano. Look for tremors to see if there's any future activity. Match it against the data from previous scans.

  1. Jane: Monitor star fields for any visual differentials and any anomalies, maybe. You've got access to the Stark satellite array and any of the nanorobotic probes I launched in our solar system. If you have any dreams, can you just give us a head's up? Don't need specifics, if you're not comf with that.

  2. Hope & Scott: See if there's anything tweaked on the quantum level? We've got that thing we've been working on close to being operational. You've got stuff on a molecular level so, there's got to be something we can make an early warning system off of. I hope.

  3. Lang: There's some nanorobotic electronics schematics I'm sending to you to look over and make suggestions for, when you've got time. That's probably right up your alley because 1. Electronics and 2. Tiny

  4. Me: I'll be getting the satellites adjusted and programming written to compile the latest data you're all submitting. See what it churns out.

We might not get any viable data but hey? Worth a shot while we work on other projects or you know, sleep. Someday. Whenever that happens.

There's a party! Ain't no party like an Asgard party. We can leave the scans running with automated warnings. I'm going to be living it up while the living's good.

[to Darcy]

Yeah, your tip wasn't b.s. I'm stopping in to do that vaguely adultish thing and talk to you. So expect it. Today. Ish.

[to Pepper]

I made you breakfast and I didn't burn down all of the kitchen.
Love you! I promise to dress pretty for the party. And keep the trolling down to a minimum. Ish. Maybe.

Anyway.

Is that why you were up at the buttcrack of dawn the other day?

Here's where this is a problem, Dr. Foster. Last night Lewis called. She told me Loki randomly mentioned 'something was coming' but he couldn't say what or where. Other than everywhere. So I called Strange and he said was getting the same feeling (must be a magician thing), and he needed some time to look into it further. Got the call this morning that the timeline is becoming more unstable on the astral plane, but it's not in danger of total collapse. Yet.

Yet is his wording, not mine. So here's our heads up that if there's any data to be found, we've got our best shot! Yay. Science. I'm going to tack this onto our message, for Scott and Hope. Keep our marching orders in order.

Well, based on the steady stream of readings - a lot of what's happening seems to mirror the behavior of dark matter particles. Basically, particles smashing into each other and allowing what is invisible to actually become visible. I think that's what Stephen is seeing too, but he uses more...magic terms. We're sitting on top of some kind of shadow universe, but whatever separates 'us' from 'them' is becoming weaker as those particles gain traction.

Plus, my own dreams have been fucked lately - but I guess that's kind of a pattern now.

A shadow universe. Yep. That's not nightmare fuel at all.

So theoretically, if we can rip some sort of pattern out of the readings, monitoring this wave, we actually could create a warning system. But since dark matters beyond our capability to manipulate (unless we can use magic) we can't do anything to stabilize the layering effect in the meantime. Right?

I don't think it's as bad as the mind leeches, so there's that?

I suppose we could try - we can make guesses about what these particles will do, how they'll clump together, what they will form. But I'm not sure what we'd be warning for, and also how to stop the effects of whatever happens next. Maybe we can't. Maybe we just have to let it ride.

When it's not as bad as mind leeches? You know your life has taken that wrong turn at Albequerque and it's gone Elmer Fudd.

I know it's a shot in the dark (pun intended). At least now we know what to look for. An early warning system might validate any weird feels that our mystic voodoo people are getting, and give the rest of us a head's up before we have to scramble.

If all else fails, from a scientific perspective? We're learning how dark matter works. That's a baby step closer to harnessing it somehow.

From what Strange said, we have to let it ride. But I'm wondering if we can do some projections based off the data to see if it is stabilizing or if it's reaching a critical mass.

Re: team science
[info]punches

I kind of feel that way too.

Projections will always help, hypotheses will always help. It's better than doing nothing. So I'm all for working out some kind of warning system. At least we won't be taken off guard too much, even if we can't stop the avalanche.

I mean. Did I mention I dreamed of turning to dust? Literally. Became dust. I'm actually scared

Speaking of particles crashing into each other, I'm also monitoring what's going on in the non-visible spectrums. I've learned a lot from the energy readings from the Bifrost and the Convergence so those make a solid baseline for the other frequencies.

Okay I don't think I'll ever read the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardobe the same way ever again.

The Bifrost is the energy bridge that connected Asgard to the other realms. It's how Thor was able to travel between Asgard and Earth. It has a distinct energy signature, one that I can detect. They're quantum events so any ripples along those frequencies should set off alarm bells.

As for the Convergence...you remember that big spaceship in London a few years back? Do you also remember reports of portals opening onto other worlds? The nine realms aligned, physics took a field day, portals lined up so you could walk from world to world, it was wild.

Interesting. What equipment are you using to detect those ripples? If they're quantum events I'd like to compare with the readings I've got of these shifting and changing particles.

Oh, wow, and I missed being able to like...walk to Asgard?? That is bullshit.

Yeah, C.S. Lewis is a little problematic.

I don't think you could have gone directly to Asgard without detouring through Svartalfheim or Jotunheim and I don't think that's recommended.

That's handy. Wish I had that all the times I had to load my van.

Mythology gets tricky considering who we know. Some stories were condensed. Svartalfheim was the realm of the Dark Elves. The last of the of the elves were defeated at the Convergence. Nidavellir is the home of the dwarves. It's the forge where Thor's hammer was made.

Well I think it’s best nanotechnology is only looked at from a tiny perspective too. Less room for error. You’d be surprised between the difference of a microscope and then staring at it “life size”.
