text to Sif and Thor

[to Sif]

> I trust the training of our newest guards is going well?

> I wanted to inform you that I am accompanying my wife off realm for a night on business related to the Bifrost construction.

> Worry not. I have my phone and I'm leaving a double behind to keep an eye on everything.

[to Thor]

> Hello, brother. I'm informing you and Sif that I will be gone for a night with Brunnhilde. We're going to Vanaheim, on business related to the Bifrost reconstruction.

> I feel compelled to inform you that they aren't overly pleased about Asgard's fall for lack of aid against foes, and for my rumored part in stealing a throne.

> Which, ironically, I didn't get to do nor enjoy, since I escaped prior to that taking place.

> I can inform you that they are a bit pleased about Asgard's currently weakened state, due to past disagreements between the Aesir and Vanir.

> By disagreements, I mean that nasty business about a war between those realms before that peace treaty took place.

> By peace treaty, I mean they had no choice but to submit or else. A part of our lessons that I remember you sleeping through, since I was drawing on your face.

> Right then. I'll have Brunnhilde text you if anything goes amiss, not that I expect it.

(1) That was quite a lot of messages to tell me exactly what you explained in the first one.

(2) Do not go empty-handed. Bring local delicacies. Perhaps those buns made with that tart spice, but without raisins. I have yet to find a person who enjoys that addition.

> Of course. The next time that one of Asgard's princes is going into what could become possible enemy territory once more, I'll be certain not to explain any finer details or historical nuances that might impact that visit.

> I'm going to the family hunting lodge deep in the forest, which mother warded with spells. I should be safe. Unless I'm off buying you spiced rolls from a people that are well versed in magic and would sense in an instant that I am hiding under a guise.

> Raisins are disgusting. I can't understand this realm's obsession with them.

(1) I am grateful to have you as my brother for you are the holder of this history and not I.

(2) I meant delicacies from Midgard. Vanheim only knows how to cook boar ..which while tasty, is not what I want. I have teeth made for sugar.

(3) Truly. It is one of the many confusing items about this realm.

> Raisins are a waste of perfectly good grapes.

> I am grateful we're not at odds as we were, because we'd be in several more wars and at a strategic disadvantage if you aren't aware of the histories.

> That's not true. They have fantastic honey cakes and fruit tarts. Which I can't get you, in case they attempt to hold me for ransom. Or to prove some utterly ridiculous point they'd try to make.

> You'll need to obtain your own Midgardian buns, I'm afraid.

> It should be an easy matter for you. Simply walk into a store and inform them of how incredibly popular and well liked you are. The shopkeeps might shower you with whatever you like.

(1) Very true. It could be fermented instead.

(2) Once again, we are on the same page. I have never felt closer to you, brother.

(3) I do not wish to put on pants. I am enjoying my vacation. And for your information, I pay the shopkeepers adequately for all their services. Jane says we must be part of the community.

> Or fed to by the hand of a beautiful woman. Or man, if that was one's predisposition. The more civilized lands on Midgard seem to enjoy the idea of equality.

> If you get close enough to hug me, then you may be feeling the familiar sensation of a blade in your side. That's how you know that I care.

> My, she is helping you by leaps and bounds. If only Odin had sent you to her a few years before what transpired.

> Jane mentioned my coming to visit, so I can see the home you've managed to repair for yourselves while you were wearing no pants.

(1) I prefer to feed myself. Grapes are an amusing fruit.

(2) Ah yes. The love stab. I will reciprocate with a punch to the kidneys.

(3) Yes, well, she is amazing. And wonderful. And perfect in many ways. Even when wearing pants. Come visit. Anytime.

> Only you would be amused by fruit.

> Better than being unwillingly dragged down the length of the Bifrost for one of your "adventures."

> I'll do that, after I'm done retching over the sap you've assaulted my eyes with.

[1] All is well with the students and the guard.
[2] Enjoy your trip and I will take care of things here.
[3] And extend my greetings to your lady wife.

> I am profoundly grateful for that. Things have been relatively calm as of late, which is a welcome reprieve.

> If there are issues, please let us know. I doubt there will be, though.

> I will do so when she's finished piloting while drinking. Tis her normal state and I'd hate to interrupt her. She might lob an emptied bottle at me.

[1] There will be no issues. I am certain of it.
[2] Fortunately you are not on Midgard, for I have learned there are laws concerning drinking and piloting a vessel.
[3] Those laws were not designed for Asgardians, though.

> I am glad. I only feel assured in leaving to finish this task, because you are ever vigilant.

> Are there? The Midgardian constitution is truly weak if it can't handle some drink and piloting vehicles at the same time.

> I'm thinking of trying to convince Thor that it's time to come home and take up leadership responsibilities. Perhaps during my visit to see him and Jane in the land of New Mexico. What say you?

[1] Thank you for your kind words; I shall do my best to live up to them.
[2] Having had what Midgardians think is a strong drink, I think you may be right.
[3] I feel sorry for them. They have the alcohol tolerance of babes.
[4] I would be glad to see Thor home, as you can imagine.
[5] But I would not wish to cause him grief or trouble, and I do not know how things stand with Doctor Foster.
[6] So an approach may be well-taken, but I think you should be the one to speak of it.

> Dear Sif. You need not try harder, for you already excel.

> At least we know the proper way to brew a strong drink, even if we merely lack ingredients.

> I'll attempt to remedy that little problem with the new treaties I'm working on. With Asgard gone, everything needs be reworked with Alfheim and Vanaheim.

> Regarding your thoughts on Thor, I fully agree. As does our Valkyrie.

> I've no desire to bring any troubles on either of them, thus I will gently bring up the topic when next I see him.

> Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

[1] I look forward to the results of those treaties.
[2] And you are very welcome to my counsel at any time.
[3] If you learn from either Thor or Doctor Foster that there is aught I can do to aid them, please let me know.
[4] To say I worry would be wrong, but Thor is dear to me, and Doctor Foster would be dear for his sake even if I didn't like her on her own.
[5] She confuses me but I do like her.

> I think we all will. Importing drink and having to barter each time for a new shipment is rather tiring.

> I am grateful for it.

> Sif, if you do not like her, merely say so. She is a perplexing creature, tis true, but her intellect is fascinating.

> Mostly perplexing, though.

> Worry not. I shall keep anything we say in the strictest of confidence and we shall return posthaste. I do not want to linger over long in a realm that was essentially forced into a treaty long ago.

> My. We are rather thin on allies, aren't we.

[1] As bad as it is, it's better than drinking most of the Midgardian alcohol. Some of it is tasty but it has very little kick, if any.
[2] I do like her, Loki, I just don't understand her. She makes Thor happy.
[3] I try to be kind to her and respect her position, which must be strange to her.
[4] The position, I mean, of being in love with a king from a strange land.
[5] I suspect it's a cultural difference and what seems right to me doesn't make sense to her.
[6] Because she definitely does and says things that don't make sense to me.
[7] But she's very intelligent and I respect that. And I like her. She's just not easy for me to understand.

> I do believe they're trading the lower quality stuff on purpose. It's not like we can mint very many gold coins at present.

> Remedying that, as well.

> I understand your meaning, entirely. I believe it is what Midgard calls a 'culture shock' on all of our parts.

> The people would accept her because she is with Thor.

> Yet we are not about to change our ways to suit hers, and she doesn't strike me as keen in changing her ways toward being a future queen.

> Otherwise, she would have been here already.

> Either way, I'll speak to Thor regarding his return, and be as delicate as possible.

[1] I'm glad for both the gold and the liquor.
[2] And yes, I think you are correct in your assessment of matters with Jane.
[3] I suspect that's part of what Thor likes about her.
[4] And if there's anything I can do, do let me know.
