This is a generational issue. There's a cultural shift toward gender neutrality and away from what's known as Mansplaining that women tend to view as condescending or patronizing to them. Trying to explain your stance is not advised.

In other words, it's a trap. A sincere apology and avoiding the topic around anyone who has leaped down your throat in the future is a good idea.

	Probably a good idea, although I am going to have a word with a friend about social justice policing anyone on this network during a baby post, when they know that person is from the 1940's.
