Who: Everyone
What: Feast and festivities
When: August 3, 2018
Where: The Asgardian complex
Rating: TBD

Guests are greeted by a trail of rose petals to lead them to the rooftop. With the sun setting, the view across the harbor would be magnificent, and a perfect backdrop to an elegantly displayed table. There are various platters of charcuterie, wine bottles dotting the side tables, and an open bar at the back. Side tables are placed in comforting nooks, and there is ample seating for all.

Smells of various meats cooking on the barbeque waft through the air, and the host himself will be manning one of them. Contrary to popular belief, Thor can cook. After all, a warrior who cannot feed himself quickly becomes thin.

Welcome to all. Thor hopes you all enjoy your evening, and if things become messy, please -- seek your host. He will happily find you a space to relax and wind down if required. The last thing he wants is hurt feelings.

Asgardians knew how to put on a spread. Every comfort had been considered. There plenty of food, warm lighting, cozy corners to sit. Jane had gone for a different sort of comfort and headed for the bar. It was well-provisioned and there - not front and center but easily to hand with the whiskey - were bitters, oranges, and one of those peeler things. None of it was out of place on a well-stocked bar but Jane knew better. Thor remembered. She set about the business of fixing an old-fashioned.

Thor watched from a distance as he watched Jane make her drink. Familiar moves. He was glad she was a creature of habit. More than anyone there, he wished she would have a good time.

Coming up behind her, he smiled. "It was good of you to come, Jane. Thank you."

Jane turned, raising her drink in greeting. "Of course." She smiled up at him. "This is really nice, Thor."

He smiled proudly. "I am glad you think so. I wanted to make my home a welcoming place for all." Thor gestured to the space. "Sometimes, all that is needed is the company of worthy friends in a space free from judgment. I am honoured to create that space."

Jane's fingers curled around her glass, cool against the condensation of the ice. She took a sip. "You did a good job." Jane smiled again. "Perfect timing. Darcy starts to complain if I don't get out of the lab for fresh every week or so."

"It is important to rest when able," Thor agreed. Having lived with Jane before, he knew how important Darcy's role was in Jane's life. "Your work is vital, but not at the cost of your health."

"Yeah yeah," Jane groused in the old familiar way. "I have to be in the lab. You can't actually see the stars in this city. I want tickets to Hamilton like everybody else but I'm not sure it's worth the trade."

Thor gave her a confused look. "Who is Hamilton and why does he command such a price?"

For a second a look of confusion crossed her face and then she laughed. This was conversation was easy. They could have been wrapped together on her sofa, catching Thor up on some pop culture. "Not who, what. It's a show. A musical. About one of the men who helped found America. He was the country's first Treasurer and the vice president killed him in a duel."

That sounded like an incredibly boring topic, thought Thor. Some pieces of Midgardian culture made no sense to him. "And this musical, it is the equivalent to your work?" He was still trying to figure out how the two went together.

"No," Jane shook her head. "But it's the most popular thing in this city. A lot of people would say it's worth it to come to a city bright you can't see the stars if you get to watch it." Jane looked up at the sky, city lights reflecting off the cloud cover. Her expression said she didn't agree.

Thor didn't get it either. "The natural beauty of the stars is worth far more than a piece of entertainment." He followed her gaze up. Constellations he only vaguely understood. These stars were different than the ones he'd grown up with, but that did not diminish their light.

Jane shrugged. "Can't say I disagree." Maybe she'd be lucky to see more of them one day.

Thor smiled at her response. He sat in companiable silence with her for a few moments before speaking again.

"You look well. Untroubled. Different than before." To be honest, Thor didn't know what to expect after she'd admitted her dreams. Part of him had wondered if maybe somehow they'd failed in their task, that she still retained the Aether. Impossible, of course, but he was glad to see she looked alright.

Everything he was trying to say was coming out wrong. "That was an incomplete thought. I apologize. What I was intending to say is your dreams...of...the Aether. Previously, the weight of such power was visible on your frame. Today, you seem relaxed. I am glad to see it, although I must confess -- I still grow concerned about your dreams of late."

If she was visibly ill, that would mean something was still left within her. Jane shuddered a little and took a fortifying sip of whiskey. "I'm okay. We'll figure it out."

"Yes," he said with a smile. "We will." Looking around the room, he decided he'd been a good host, and could sit down for a moment. Taking the stool next to her, he clasped his hands on the bar. "Make me a drink, Jane Foster. You always look so content with your old-fashioned drinks."

"And you," Jane teased, "always say old fashioned like it's a description and not the name of the drink." She busied herself with the task, increasing the ratio of ingredients for Thor. He couldn't get drunk on this Earth stuff. She knew what she was about though and made sure there was enough orange and bitters to balance with the extra pour of whiskey and handed off the drink.

He accepted the drink with a head nod and took a tentative sip. Although he'd tasted it many times on Jane's lips, he couldn't remember actually drinking one. It wasn't unpleasant, as far as Midgardian alcohol went.

"And what made you decided an old fashioned drink would be yours?," he asked, holding the top of the cup with his fingers. "Most Migardian females seem to rather wine to any liquor."

"I'm not against a good glass of wine," Jane answered. "But I used to hate wine when I was younger. It took time for my tastebuds to change. I like that it's a cocktail, that it's something that you have to take the time to make. And," Jane's eyes softened, "my dad was a Scotch drinker. I know it's not exactly the same thing but it feels close." Jane's father had passed in the early fall. With summer coming to a close, he was often on her mind at this time of year. That was why Jane wanted to see a ballgame with someone who actually liked the sport.

Thor listened to her, taking small sips of his drink. As always, he felt torn between visiting his guests (duty) and staying by her side (desire). As long as his drink remained full, he'd have an excuse to remain.

"I think it matters not if it is the same thing. What is of import is how you feel. it is a sweet sentiment of honour."

"Thanks." Thor was good for understanding things like that. Jane raised her drink to him and as she sipped from it realized this might be their longest face-to-face conversation since... since the night he left. Okay that needed another sip.

"How are you doing with everything?" Jane didn't specify what everything was. it could have been anything. His eye, Asgard, his mother, his brother, being on Earth, his haircut. "Are you okay?"

Was he okay? The expression was one strictly used on Midgard, one that he'd liked right away. It implied a basic level of correctness, and was appropriately vague. It was not the time or place to unload his thoughts, but he appreciated she'd asked.

"Every day brings its own challenges and solutions," he responded finally. His missing people weighed heavy and some days he womdered if he was doing enough. Probably not. "It is strange no longer having a home," he admitted. "I am fortunate for my comnection to this realM, ere I truly be homeless."

Jane reached out to place a comforting hand on Thor's forearm. It was an old habit, intimate and familiar. And probably not appropriate. After only a moment, she pulled her hand away.

"I'm so sorry about what happened to Asgard. I'm glad I got the change to see it."
