Fury wasn't surprised by that at all. It only took one look at Sam's hands to know they were not embued with delicacy. They were pilot's hands, attuned to slight maneuvers but pastry work?

That was masterful work.

The older man let out a "Hm". He should be nice. He knew he should be nice. And if Sam was to be the next Captain America...or someone of importance to Carol...

"A man's gotta eat," Fury responded back, raising an eyebrow. "And who better to trust than yourself? Besides, if you know what it should taste like, you'll be less caught off guard. After all, a steak should only have hollandaise of it's a Steak Neptune. Any other time, that's suspicious."

There was a reason Fury was still alive today he questioned everything. Always had questions running through his mind.

"Besides -- take out is expensive."

Sam shouldn't be surprised that Fury cooked for himself out of paranoia. It actually made perfect sense given what he knew about the man. "Government work doesn't pay well, I take it?" he joked.

Why was he joking with a man who could probably kill him six different ways with just his pinky finger? Oh, right, because his sense of self preservation was limited at times.

What was left unspoken was that Fury was a man of indeterminable age, with no real personal connections and no history that anyone was aware of. The price was high to get to the level he was in.

"If you're looking for a balance, I encourage you to strive towards that. It's far too easy to let your work take over." Unsolicited advice from Fury. Enjoy it.
