"Morgan!" Pepper was aghast. "Don't paw at him. It's rude." She gently pulled one little hand from Drax's face then held out her hands to her daughter who gave her a good imitation of Tony's pout as she clung to Drax's thick neck.

Pepper sighed as she planted her hands on her hips. "Oh, this wasn't me this time. Bobbi got the idea rolling and everyone else added to it."

Morgan stopped pouting and clung on, but discreetly poked at some of the scars. Not that Drax minded. He didn't show any signs of it being odd or uncomfortable.

"Children are always tactile," Drax assured her. "Our own children would touch our faces to grow accustomed to the patterns of our tribe. During the dark hours, they could tell who each person in their family was by touch alone. It was a good defense in case they needed to club a rival tribe member trying to sneak in. There were surprisingly few accidental clubbings."

Although children Morgan's age were given clubs, Drax gathered that Terrans did no such thing, so he didn't offer to make Morgan one. Maybe when she was ten.

"I enjoyed your party very much," Drax told Pepper. "And I am enjoying this one as well. Parties on Terra are a good way to meet one another in the spirit of friendship."

As long as Drax was ok with Morgan's pawing at him Pepper would let it slide. For now.

His explanation of his people's traditions was fascinating. She knew Drax was fairly private so she wondered he'd shared this with anyone else. "That's a great idea, actually. It probably reassured them as well as being a good defense."

Pepper smiled in gratitude and nodded. "Thank you," she said in earnest. It was always good to hear that people enjoyed her efforts. "That's a lot of the reason why we have them. That and to blow off steam if we're too stressed or need a break. Have you met new friends tonight?"

"It was. There were frequent clashes between war tribes."

Their village was lucky in that there were many warriors to defend it. It was the lesser clans that were often overrun or asking their larger neighbors to integrate in trade for livestock or fruits or grains.

Drax briefly smiled at Morgan and she smiled back, albeit a little oogly eyed at the alien. "I have met many of your world's warriors and they shared their tales of battle with me. I am impressed. They are nothing like Quill. He whines when things go wrong."

"It seems to be their way," Drax said, and although his tone was serious, he felt sympathy for this woman who put up with a small child and a man child. Who was like Quill. In general.

"I am. I enjoy Cheetos and hot dogs, very much. And stinky weeds. I like the weeds of this world, and to watch the network that teaches cooking."

Yes, this planet was worth it for the stinky weeds and Cooking Channel.

"Weeeeeeds," Morgan sang-song and then Drax began to say "Weeeeeeeeeeds" with her.

Stinky weeds? Pepper wasn't sure what he meant by stinky weeds, and she was pretty certain she didn't want to know. Her first guess was marijuana, but couldn't imagine a stoned Drax. Someone would have to explain to him what being stoned meant since he'd take it literally and have nothing to do with it.

But then her daughter and Drax began their odd song and Pepper began to laugh. "You're very good with her, Drax. Thank you."

Her first guess was right. Hope van Dyne was to thank for that, since she was his official food-n-ganja friend.

"Thank you," Drax said once they stopped singing for a moment. He rested a hand on Morgan's back and patted it lightly, before offering her back to Pepper. "I have always liked the innocence and purity of children. They are easy to understand, and clear in their mannerisms and intentions."

It reminded him of his own daughter, which seemed like ages ago.

	He was so gentle with Morgan. Pepper felt her heart melt a bit as she took her back. "If only more adults were like that," she commented with a chuckle. "It's almost time for the fireworks so we have to go find Tony. I'm glad we got a chance to talk." Morgan smiled at Drax as she waved. (Replies frozen) (Parent) (Thread)
