Who: Everyone
What: 4th of July/America's Ass' surprise birthday party
When: 4th of July DUH
Where: Governor's Island
Rating: Don't do anything Rogers wouldn't do! *shakes finger*

Disguised as a legit celebration/benefit for America's veterans, the surprise birthday party for Steve is kept as lowkey as possible...considering it's Captain America.

You know the drill!

Christine and Bucky

It was a lovely day, and Christine loved how it was tastefully done. She was worried a little when Bobbi (of all people) suggested the party, only because Bobbi was a handful.

She had no idea how Bobbi worked with Director Fury without being killed. It was a mystery to Christine.

Fanning herself with a flag, she was walking around when she caught Bucky in the corner of her eye. She hadn't talked to him in a while, in fact didn't even know he came out in the daylight, so naturally, she had to go and talk to him.

"Hey there," she called out cheerfully. "Good to see you! Happy America Day!" She waved the flag and came closer, smiling all the while. Standing a bit away from him (he seemed to like space), she gave her head a tilt. "How've you been? It's been a while."

Bucky always found it a source of amusement how Steve was born on Independence Day. After all, his friend was used to independently doing whatever he believed to be good and right, every day of the year.

He watched Christine without saying anything, as though it was a delayed reaction to that much chipper good cheer being aimed in his direction. He even took a drink of beer before replying. It didn't do much at all to get him drunk, but it helped give him something to focus on and process.

"Happy Fourth," he finally said, nodding to her in greeting. "I'm ok. Thanks for asking. How are you?"

"Not too shabby, just got off of work." She gestured down to her scrubs and smiled, reaching up to tousle her hair a little bit. "Although I could probably tell you this is the newest thing in fashion and you'd probably believe me. Med chic," Christine said in a teasing tone.

"I mean, I say this, but I bet somewhere, someone has done it and they're paying thousands for what I buy in bulk online from China." Was that an un-american thing to say? Oops. "It's good to see you out. Was it painful?"

"You kind of blew it there," Bucky replied in regard to Christine disclosing her dastardly plan, speaking in the same low measured tone he used the rest of the time. There was a little squint and a hint of a smile, though.

He shrugged a little before saying, "I'm not breaking out in a rash. Yet."

"Oh good," Christine said, "because as of yet, we haven't been able to vaccinate against that, and I'd hate for it to spread."

Impulsively, she moved forwards, extending the flag she'd been holding for most of the event. "Here you go. Now if someone tries to offer you a beer or food, you can say your hands are full and you need to rest. Then you can escape." She winked.

"It's fool proof."

Bucky took the flag and stood there staring at it for a long moment. Then he looked at Christine and - like she understood him entirely - he smiled gratefully and nodded just once to her.

"Thanks, Doc," he told her, tucking the flag into his pocket in case he needed it. "I appreciate it."

"Anytime! I also carry around a pager," she stuck her hip out to show him where the outdated piece of technology stayed. "So you can literally message me 911 and I can bail you out anytime."

Some noises behind her distracted her, and she realized no, wait, that was her stomach. She was hungry.

"Well, I'd better go and get my first meal of the day. I'll see you around, Bucky!" And with a little wave, off she went to find something disgustingly unhealthy. She hadn't eaten in a while -- she could afford the calories.
