What: Telling stories (and probably some fanboying)
When: Saturday evening
Rating/Warnings: Green/likely to contain Captain Marvel spoilers
Every airman was regaled with the horror stories of atrocities suffered by those who went before them. It was a right of passage and occasionally it was difficult to tell which stories were true, which were highly embellished, and which were simply urban legends. The story of Captain Carol Danvers and Wendy Lawson was one that was generally spoken in hushed whispers and most new recruits leaned towards it being either highly embellished or an urban legend. Sam had heard it during basic and then didn't give it much thought until aliens attacked Manhattan. Then he wondered if maybe some of the more fantastical elements that were occasionally bandied about might actually have some truth to them.
It went out of his head again when he got caught up in the adventures of Steve Rogers though and he never thought to ask anyone if it was true, so when he actually met Carol Danvers on the network, he'd been equal parts shocked and thrilled. And he knew for sure that he'd probably made an absolute fool of himself.
He was pleased that she'd agreed to meet him for a drink though and he hoped that he would be able to avoid completely geeking out when he met her in person. Maria Rambeau was one of his heroes, having broken so many barriers for both women and people of color in the Air Force, and he knew that Carol was her best friend.
When she entered the small pub he'd found near the apartment building, he stood and managed to stop himself from saluting. "Captain," he said. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
