Further Adventures in Reading
Who: Mia OTA
Where: The Library
When: Mid-afternoon May 26
What: Mia's further explorations in reading
Light fingers tripped along the titles of books. Mia wasn't frustrated at the moment; however, she wasn't really trying to read them at the moment. She was just looking. Just looking at the pretty letters on the books and in some cases she pulled them off to look at the pictures. Aim, wrapped as he was around her neck, looked also probably trying to fathom what he saw himself.
The nice librarian had pointed her in the direction of the children's section and Mia, in her usual fashion, had gotten sidetracked on her way there. Instead of going straight, she had taken a left into the stacks and proceeded to get lost.
Today was a purple day for her, shades of purples except for her black belt. Little slippers made muffled sounds on the carpeting.
Stopping at the end of the shelf, she poked her head out and looked around. There didn't appear to be anybody there with her. It was mid-afternoon, most everyone was busy about their own things. Like Momma who was probably doing paperwork. Block business kept Momma busy until after dinner, then there were fights...but Momma didn't always go to the fights. Sometimes she stayed on the block and Mia bothered her to watch television with her. Of course, she fell asleep in front of the television and Momma rearranged things in her head.
Things were getting clearer up there. Maybe that was why she wanted to learn to read now? Because there was room and things were clearer. She found the children's section finally and pulled out the first book that came to hand.
There was a picture on the front of a cartoon dog. Mia didn't really know it was a dog...she'd probably learn that before the book ended. It had pretty pictures, this book. And big words written boldly in black. Mia smiled and pointed at the picture for the dragon who was craning his neck in an attempt to make sense of the book in front of his nose as well.
"Book," she said triumphantly and Aim made a little trilling happy sound. Mia had found a book and she was going to learn to read it. She was too engrossed to notice anyone coming into her immediate area.
