Site Move Status

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
I just wanted to update you all and let you know where we are on the site move. We have moved the user databases over to the new servers, but we still have the master database to move. Also ALL userpics are now on the new servers.

Also tonight, I moved the webservers over to the new servers. Unfortunately this led to the side affect of being unable to read some of the cached style data for S1 users. Some of you probably noticed this with 500 Internal Server Errors. This has happened before when we moved webservers, but I was unable to track down exactly why it keeps happening.

The good thing is that I was able to fix the errors. The bad thing is some of your colors or overrides may be missing. I apologize for this, but there is no way to get them back. This is a very unfortunate side effect of moving to the new servers. Some of you who have been around since the initial migration (immediately after Strikethrough) may remember going through this before.

I believe that by moving the webservers and optimizing the databases that we have corrected a lot of the slowness issues with the site. The userpic situation should calm down too as the webservers are now in the same rack as the userpic servers and the site no longer has to fetch the userpics from across the internet.

There is still some work to be done to finish moving/optimizing the site, but we are getting close and hopefully we will be done over the weekend. There will be some downtime when we finally cut over the master database to the new servers, but that should be the last of the downtime.

Now I can actually cancel these old servers and we wont have to worry about the old hosting provider ever again. And just so all of you know, so far I am THRILLED with the new hosting.

On an unrelated note, you may notice my icon (if you are not reading this on the front page of the site). I am running for a seat on the LJ Advisory Board. I feel that the "LJ Clone" sites need a voice in the direction of the LJ code. And if I get on the board and am able to convince them to make some much needed changes, then we just may be able to go and pull updates from LJ once again.

If you want to support my candidacy, there is an asylum here [info]vote_squeaky and a sister community with the same name over at LJ.

If this doesn't work out though, I have some plans, and we will need programmers who believe in FOSS and the Free Software Movement to join us .. keep an eye out!
  • I'll definatly vote for you!

One thing though, It may just be my computer but when I try to log into my main journal it keeps saying database temp. unavaible.anyone else get that?(and yes i refreshed it..several times)
  • A bunch of my accounts are borked and one of them is giving me 500 internal server errors, artisson--what did you do?
  • Attempted to log into a journal, [info]lionly and was denied, got a "Server is Unavailable" error both times. Attempted to log in with a client, received "Log In Failed: Challenge Expired" and then a "500 Internal Server Error" on a few other attempts.
  • Attempted to log into a journal, [info]lionly and was denied, got a "Server is Unavailable" error both times. Attempted to log in with a client, received "Log In Failed: Challenge Expired" and then a "500 Internal Server Error" on a few other attempts.

ON an attempt to post this comment, got:
[ Error: Database handle unavailable (user: squeaky; cluster: 3) at /home/lj/cgi-bin/LJ/Subscription.pm line 76 @ ijwebsever-earthquake2.insanewebhosting.com]
  • Hey there,
I know this is an older post but I thought I would just drop a note saying that I am seeing a lot of Internal Server Errors and some journals are coming up as "Database Unavailable". Even going to the third page of these comments is coming up as an error.

Example of a journal not showing up [info]theringmasters.

Just thought I'd let you know because I saw the twitter post about trying to move the data later.
  • Just saw the latest twitter post, disregard my last comment heh. You're awesome!
  • I've just got this while uploading used pics. I hit 'Manage Userpics' again and it was okay, but I thought you would like to know. :)

[Error: Can't locate object method "as_string" via package "MogileFS::Backend: tracker socket never became readable (74.55.123.202:7001) when sending command: [create_open domain=livejournal&fid=0&class=userpics&multi_dest=1&key=up:218730:3077511 ] at /home/lj/cgi-bin/MogileFS/Client.pm line 259 " (perhaps you forgot to load "MogileFS::Backend: tracker socket never became readable (74.55.123.202:7001) when sending command: [create_open domain=livejournal&fid=0&class=userpics&multi_dest=1&key=up:218730:3077511 ] at /home/lj/cgi-bin/MogileFS/Client.pm line 259 "?) at '/home/lj/htdocs/editpics.bml' line 518. @ ijwebsever-brain1.insanewebhosting.com]
  • This may or may not be on topic - but with the move I wonder if that's having any affect on the program Semagic?

Since yesterday, when I try to log in to the program (or post) I get a "Challenge Expired" note (which didn't stop until a few moments ago - when I received the message, then it posted).

And, for the past , few days (I forget the exact date of when it started, but I think it was during the last big downtime of Insanejournal), when I try to edit a post using Semagic, it tells me "Client Error: Unknown metadata: adult_content" and won't let me edit.

Just thought I'd give a heads up if it's something dealing with the move due to the time it started happening.

  • im still having troubles keeping icons.
  • I'm not receiving email notifications on most of my accounts after the database move.
  • I'm glad about not having to worry about more issues in the future with the database move, but I have a problem.

I got recently (yesterday, about 24 hours ago) a paid (Self-committed) account, but I still appear as a 'new patient' and I'm tired of waiting. Is there any way you can fix it? If this doesn't fix soon I want my money back.
  • I'm not getting notifications for this journal, for some odd reason. I've checked the comment settings and everything and I have opted for email notifs, but I'm still not getting them.
  • I saw the note on Twitter. I still have some troubles. Today I've got another paid account and wanted to create a layout layer again. But for some reason you can't create new layers at the moment. It always says [Error: Table 'insanejournal.s2source_inno' doesn't exist at /home/lj/cgi-bin/LJ/S2.pm line 1413. @ ijwebsever-brain1.insanewebhosting.com] whenever I try.
I hope this can be fixed.

Thank you for your constant work! ^^
  • This is totally off-topic, but can we get rid of this ad of the blonde woman pulling her dress off? It makes it really awkward for me to check IJ from work.
  • Gah, not getting journal notifications again.
  • So, with the missing journal colors - colors will never save again? I lost my colors after the move; they all show up as no color and transparent. Trying to put them back in or changing styles, style systems, etc, saving, then reverting back do not work. Since I have no colors it makes it very difficult to read journal entries with my background. I filed a support ticket, but nothing has come of it to make it work...

Will I need to move journals to be able to use colors again?
  • I'll definitely support you! Also I'm having a problem getting emailed notifications for comments and replies to comments posted in my journal. In comms I'm getting replies but not the journal itself.
  • Email posting is currently down. Can we expect this feature to be up and running again when the move is complete?
  • Any chance we'll get all our icons back? I've got quite a few disappeared.
  • I still get this sometimes:

Error running style: Style code didn't finish running in a timely fashion. Possible causes:
Infinite loop in style or layer

    Database busy

  • Hi Squeaky;)

Thanks for the update, and I will be voting for you;) Keep up the great work:)

I do have a bug to report too. All my userpics arent't showing up. I dunno if there's a glitch in the system or what. But I thought I'd mention it.
  • when trying to comment back to people in this journal I was told that the comments were deleted only to go back and refresh to see them still there. I then commented my own post and it caused all of the comments to disappear
  • this really has nothing to do with this post, but i didn't know where else to ask.

I read somewhere, or I think I read somewhere, that it was possible to transfer paid time from one account to another, and I was wondering if that was true.
  • I'm still getting 'internal server' error pretty much at least once a day across several different journals.
  • As of about five minutes ago, I'm getting a "database not available" error for a lot of userinfos, and for the entire community of [info]be_slambook, as well as an Internal Server Error for the latter.
