Continuing Hotmail Issues
I am aware of the continuing issues with hotmail. Currently they are flagging all mail coming from our servers as dangerous spam and deleting it before it gets to your inboxes. I do have a line of communication open with them and we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. But I am not sure if or when they will start accepting InsaneJournal email. Until then I would suggest that you do not use a hotmail account for your email with InsaneJournal.

UPDATE: I just heard back from Microsoft and they are saying that users should start receiving our emails in the next 24-48 hours. And after that the system will be retrained on our emails so they should not get blocked in the future.

Im curious. When your system sends mail to hotmail users of IJ, does it even land in their 'BULK/JUNK" folder? Im curious because I have problems sending mail to a hotmail user. Basically, if I send directly from the server (no pop3, no involvement with my computer whatsoever) to a hotmail address, it gets through. However when I send to that mail using the same "from" account but doing it via my computer (pop3) hotmail doesnt even send that mail to the Junk folder.

No, they are flagging it as "dangerous" spam which means that it never gets through and I never get notified, it just drops into some black hole somewhere along the line.

You too, huh? Yeah, I tried putting in a support ticket (since hotmail doesnt seem to have a phone #) about it. It will probably take donkey years for a response.

Keep me updated. I am curious to know what happens since it seems like the IJ server and my server are in the same boat.

PS: Do you or insanity ever check the ideas asylum?

Yes, I keep an eye on it. But I just haven't had the time to implement anything lately. Gotta work out some issues with the new version of the code before I can go any further.

Yep, we do. Some of the ideas are truly great ideas that would take a tremendous amount of work on squeaky's part to implement. And might be something he looks into in the future.

Other ideas are interesting but not viable.

But, yes, we do actually check it.

I did finally find out what was the problem on my end. It wasnt so much related to hotmail as we thought. It was my boss' Norman anti-virus (not Norton....there is another av called Norman that is big over in Norway) on his computer. It apparently deems the little popup dialog that appears over a Thunderbird sending message (the one that shows progress of your mail being sent, especially when you have attachments) is deemed as an actual popup and Norman kills the dialog as well as the email you were sending. Of course to anyone, you cant tell that the window and message went away for that reason since the dialog and message does that when a mail is sent out successfully. That explained why my computer was sending just fine and his was not. I hope this is not a fluke.

PS: I forgot to also ask to Insanity. Have you seen the volunteer threads on there? We so want to help make this site great even if there are some things that ant be changed from the original source code.
