I took the site down for a few minutes this afternoon to clean up the database. We were getting some errors uploading userpics that I think was caused by the database indexes being crashed. It's all clean now and everything should be working.
  • I'm actually still recieving the icon error message. I upload my icons from the URL section of the uploader thingy and almost every time I do it I get an error that refuses to let me upload icons. :(
    • What is the exact error message your are recieving?
      • I get several different ones. I went ahead and tried again. This is one of the ones I get:

"One or more errors occurred processing your request. Please go back, correct the necessary information, and submit your data again.

Error saving to storage server: Unable to read response line from server (Sock_127.0.0.1:7500) "
        ---

Here is the other error message I get:

"One or more errors occurred processing your request. Please go back, correct the necessary information, and submit your data again.

An error ocurred while trying to fetch your image. "

        ---

Is it just me? I mention it because you said other people were having errors with uploading userpics so I thought this might be related.

        • Is this occuring at all times or just in the mornings?
          • It happens at all times.
          • I thought I would also add that I've used several different computers and internet browsers. I'm usually uploading straight from the URL that they are held at greatestjournal, but I've also tried uploading from photobucket and personal domains. That leads me to believe that it isn't a greatestjournal problem. Maybe it's just a problem with the URL uploader thingy because I haven't used the upload from computer option yet.

        • Are you using the icon uploader? Are you sure you have the IJ one?
          • Nope, I could never figure it out so I haven't used it at all.
            • Hm, if you want to zip the file, I can try for you through it?
              • I'm afraid I'm a hopeless case. I don't even know how to zip a file! And all of my icons were on my laptop which is now dead. So I would need to resave them, I guess. I figured it would be easier to just use the URL thingy, but it's not working. What do you think?
                • I would really strongly recommend using the icon uploader. Most if not all computers have some sort of unzip capability. All you'd have to do is put your icons in the folder and input your name and password. No one is a hopeless case, you just haven't had someone explain it properly yet.
                • Just right click on the folder once you have them saved and choose the 'send to' option. It will say 'send to compressed (zipped) folder. Then you can upload the zipped to yousendit and post the link for me.

Unless you have a MAC and then I've no idea, but if you don't this should work.

However, if you wanted to use the icon uploader yourself, just download the IJ version and open the file. Click on it, extract all files. It will show a few different ones. Now open the picture folder and drag each individual file into it (or copy and paste). Hit the UPL folder and then put in the info it asks for.
        • I've been getting this same error, but then I just retry and it works. :3
          • Yeah. Usually if I use the back button on my browser and click upload again it will work. But sometimes the icon will upload and just show up as a red box when I do this, or other times it will give me the same error. Usually if I can get it to upload properly I will be good to upload maybe 2 or 3 more icons until I'll get the error again, but when you want to upload 100 icons..well, that will take quite a long while. :(
            • I can imagine! It took me forever just deciding which ones I should upload. :P
