Well, here's the thing. I'm an ex soldier. You know the idea that if you carry a weapon, the likelihood of violence in a calm area increases? Simply because you're aware of the weapon, more likely to go for it, or simply that your unease was actually tied to actual issues.
You don't want people getting murdered. Totally fair. How can you feel safe, anywhere, that is not home?
That's why I'm wondering if building a safe place where you don't have to always check the doors before you go to sleep might be a good first step. There are people who know about folks like us - who've fallen between worlds. They can provide therapy and talk about issues. I might be able to ask around if there's a good option, but well - I'd need a few more details beyond a war and violence near you. Or well, you'd need to vet them more carefully and see if they're a good fit beyond handling that sort of thing.
