Eleanor was not having a good day. First, she'd woken to an owl pecking at her hair with an angry Howler attached to it's talons and then she'd been screamed at by her boss because she'd forgotten to show for work. Never mind the fact that today was supposed to be her day off. She'd hurried out of bed, banged her knee on her bedpost, skipped breakfast and the moment she'd arrive at work, a kneazle bit her and after a very unsuccessful attempt to get the nifflers out of her bosses office, she was fired. No. Today was not good day. To top it off, her day wasn't done and she was sitting inside Fortescue's reading a letter her boyfriend - well, ex-boyfriend - wrote. Dumping her. No. Today was most definitely not a good day. Rubbing her eyes, she sniffed and crumpled up the stupid letter.
Of course, the usual lunch crowd at the Foretescue's had settled down and now there were only a couple of patrons in the shoppe. She half-heartedly dipped her spoon into her ice cream and stared at the melting mess of vanilla and peaches. Today was awful. Terrible. Beyond redeemable. Fired and dumped in one day. Not to mention, she was supposed to meet her mother tonight and sample cheeses. That would normally brighten her up but then her mother would ask about Owen and that would just send her into a fit of tears.
Feeling eyes on her, she looked up to see a little girl crawling into the seat across from her. She was quite adorable and Eleanor looked around, wondering who she belonged to. "Hello," she said, trying to smile, wiping the tears off her cheeks. "Are you here with someone?" She hoped the little girl wasn't lost. Eleanor had once wandered away from her mother and ended up here. She was fairly certain all children who 'wandered' from their parents ended up at the ice cream parlour.
