Why Harry doesn't know!
When Day after Vera's request
Harry Apparated directly to the shadowed area under the building. As always, he put a hand in his jeans pocket - said jeans having until recently belonged to his father, and fitted perfectly - to check for the box that held the ring. Despite the waves of low grade evil coming off it, he wasn't about to let it out of his sight under any circumstances, and everyone seemed to think that as the local expert on Horcruxes (ha!) he was the best one for the job. Besides, he couldn't risk anyone finding out the ring's other secret, the one even Voldemort was unaware of. At least, being here, he wasn't tempted to use it, since everyone he really needed to talk to was here and alive. He wasn't sure if it would even work to bring back anyone he knew from his own universe, and it wasn't worth going mad to find out.
He knocked on the door, shifting rather nervously from foot to foot. Despite the fact that no one was actually looking for him, it was still not exactly safe for him to hang around in the open for too long, especially considering his resemblance to James. He wondered what Vera wanted to speak to him about, but since her request he had begun to realise that she could answer a few questions for him, about the school and the best way to get what he needed from the Chamber of Secrets.
