Who: George Weasley, Augustus Rookwood
What: George giving himself up.
When: Saturday morning.
Where: Clava Cairns
Warnings: Sad? Augustus is pretty much a douche.
The day dawned too early, not any earlier than any other day since that was impossible, but just too early for one George Weasley. A terrible sun woke him up and while it allowed him to see Romilda lying next to him, peaceful and adorable in her sleep, he knew from the moment he opened his eyes what today meant. It meant not saying goodbye, pretending to be something he wasn't, and leaving everyone he loved for an indefinite amount of time.
George knew he wasn't going to bother waking Romi, and that it would be best for him to be as quiet as possible. Despite the amazing night they had, the feeling that everything would be alright, he couldn't put on a smile, even for a few seconds. Once he was free from her bed and body, he got dressed as quickly as possible in the only clothes he had - the Zorro costume - and took a moment to just stare down at her.
This could be the last time he ever saw her. Why hadn't the future dawned on him before, that he could really be gone forever? At least she wouldn't have to deal with loving more than one person for awhile. Even if she would wonder why he suddenly had to leave...
Being careful not to disturb the bed too much, George leaned over and pressed a solitary kiss to her cheek. When he stood straight, he had to move fast to wipe his own cheek clear of the tear that had gotten free. No, he'd promised himself he wouldn't do this. Not here, at least, not now. And if he didn't leave...he might never.
Leaving the cape, hat, mask and sword as personal reminders, and because he just didn't want to wear them, George left, keeping his face hard and clean of any emotion because if he didn't, he wouldn't be able to stop. The bus rides to Clava Cairns were quiet, for him, and filled with thoughts he didn't want. Most of the time he leaned his elbows on his legs and just stared into space, slightly distracted by the slight hangover throbbing his brain.
When he finally made it to the same spot he'd been dropped off at and had met Augustus at, he just sat and waited, no matter how long it took. It was like sitting on death row and the time passed quickly, yet agonizingly slow all at the same time until the sun was too hot to bear and his legs hurt from remaining in the same position.
