Friday was Padma’s favorite day of the week. Like most students, this was due to the lack of classes the next day. Not to say she hated schooling- on the contrary the girl loved her classes. Each one was a good time to her; it was the instructors she had no love for. Short, disgusting, crude little greedy gits, goblins were on the top of her dislike list. She was sure that every Curse Breaker before her had felt the same way, too. It was just the way they treated people, similar to how some people treat nifflers. Possibly they were less fluffy nifflers to the Gringotts Goblins. That was a pleasant thought- they were treasure sniffing, blind critters sent into pits… actually that was sounding pretty accurate now that she thought about it. She could pretend that the case was not so but, alas, it was. Nothing she could do about it either except let it be and move on. Easier said than done most days but it was Friday. That meant she had 2 days to relax and read a book not on dead people of Crete. Most likely a book o dead people elsewhere- murder novels were one of her favorites.
Beside her was her age old friend, Terry. Out of the corner of her eye she could see his face was still stuck to the pages as he crammed the last bit of information in. She admired him- she really did. For more than just his smarts but his dedication; there were a number of things he could have been saved from when it came to the previous year at school. He did not flinch at his punishment. He had all but healed from each round in detention and the battle itself. Not that she had been intently watching to make sure of it- or so she would not admit to. Just as she would not even admit to Su Li or Morag that she did encompass feelings for him and for Michael. She did admit to liking Anthony which was a big step for her- but Terry and Michael were like her brothers back at school. Terry more so now that they spent every waking hour studying together in the claustrophobic little flat she had bought to escape her family’s overbearing grip. She had happily lived at the school learning and being as free as possible- hell she went to Hogsmeade against her parents’ rules in her seventh year and helped cause trouble with the revolution. Neither escapade was ever brought to her attention (and for good reason).
Still eying Terry, Padma reflected on how she was lucky- and Terry was for that matter- that she worked part time at Florish and Blotts. Their text books were bought cheap thanks to her discount and she had a wide variety of extra reading material she could, has or was planning on buying. She even got him a gift consisting on 3 books for Christmas. He would be mad, of that she was certain, but she did not care. It was not like she had spent all of her money on him after all; plus he had really wanted one of the books. The Greek Magics: The Ancient Greeks and Their Gods had just come out when she had brought him to get her pay almost a week ago- of course she got him a copy. They just now needed to plan a day to exchange gifts. That and she had something she wanted to ask him about.
“Terr, are we going to my flat or are we going to stay here all night,” she asked with soft tone and a smirk.
