Who: Harry and Percy
Where: An elevator in the Ministry, later somewhere else
What: Two miserable Ministry employees bump into one another and later are able to talk about how nobody understands them (poor boos!)
When: Tuesday, January 19 - morning; after work
Rating: PG
Briefcase in hand, Percy walked through the Atrium toward the lifts. Another day at the office, but the prospect sickened. He didn't even bother packing a lunch today; whenever he was upset, he lost his appetite. Perhaps later he'd grab a slice of toast from the cafeteria or a bag of crisps, but anything more than that wasn't appetizing. Lately, his sleep patterns were also thrown off; he'd wake up in the wee hours of the morning unable to return to sleep, the weight of the Wizaring World running as thoughts in his troubled mind.
There had to be somebody else who felt the way he did! If there was, they weren't revealing themselves in his office. Those working for the Minister of Magic and his support staff seemed to be of one accord, in agreement with Minister Diggory's most recent bits of legislature. Percy felt forced to play along, lest he be singled out. Ginny's question from the night before echoed in his memory.... Why? ... as did his own words, spoken to Oliver over dinner a few days back. Why, indeed?
Before Percy knew it, he was in front of the row of elevators - his steps had been so automatic that he didn't even consciously remember how he'd gotten there. Pressing the button, a set of doors opened as if waiting for him, and Percy stepped inside. "Level One, Minister's Offices," he announced, but just as the doors were about to shut, he heard somebody on the outside call, Hold the door! Without noticing who it was, Percy kept the door from shutting with his hand to give the wizard a chance to join him. It was only when the doors shut and they were both inside together that Percy glanced to his left and realized he was sharing an elevator with Harry Potter. Awkwardly, Percy kept his eyes riveted to the front, arms to the side. Did Harry blame him the same way Ginny and the others did? Using him as a scapegoat to direct their anger and frustration?
