WHO: Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood and Ginny Weasley
WHEN: Saturday, 20th August, afternoon
WHERE: Beginning in Hogsmeade, later Hogwarts
WHAT: It seems that Minerva McGonagall has disappeared
Her short red hair swished against her chin as Luna apparated into the alley behind the Hog’s Head pub, her partial disguise hopefully enough to not alert her appearance to any passers-by, that she was Luna Lovegood: The Missing ST. She tucked her wand into her pocket and made her way out of the narrow passageway and into the street, relieved to find it not as busy as it may have been on a warm weekend in August. She supposed the danger of attacks from the escaped Death Eaters was enough of a reason to drive most people away from public areas, however many MAB patrols there may have been. Walking the distance to the Shrieking Shack did not take too long, and it allowed her to consider what the discrepancy had been with the report from the Daily Prophet about McGonagall’s hospitalisation and that Ginny had found that the elder witch was actually not at St Mungo’s. Unless she was being looked after by a private healer somewhere, or in a secure ward at St Mungo’s that had been kept confidential for some reason, Luna couldn’t reason it. She allowed the gauzy material of her cardigan to flutter in the breeze as she headed up the hill to the Shack. It was somewhat cooler here in Scotland than it had been near the safehouse in Muggle London, and her cardigan helped ward off what may have been a chill. It also covered up the brand that marred her forearm well enough, though up close the red mark could be glimpsed through the slightly transparent white of her top. Perching lightly on the wooden sign that stood in front of the shack, it’s history carved lightly into the warped and faded wood, Luna waited for the other girls to arrive. === It felt like a long time since Ginny had last seen Luna and Hermione together, at the same time. At least just the three of them. Maybe it was just the insane amounts of practice she’d been doing lately, most of which had served it’s purpose - to make her push away the truth as it was, ugly and broken - but not much more than that. She knew about Luna’s disguise, of course she did, but it still took her a moment to recognise her friend. “You really shouldn’t be a redhead,” she said as Luna turned to look at her. “Makes you look all... wrong.” She didn’t mean it in a bad way, and the best thing about Luna was that she knew it. Luna always knew. Not in the way Hermione always knew, but in her own little way nonetheless. “Where’s Hermione? I’m not supposed to be on time. She is.” === Hermione’s Muggle flat wasn’t connected to the Floo, and though this was an inconvenience, it also made her feel just a bit safer from Ministry intrusion. An illusion, perhaps, but one that she clung to. Today it meant travelling to a wizarding shop to use their Floo, as Hermione did not want to apparate and potentially draw attention to her visit to Hogwarts the very day its headmistress had ‘taken ill’. She wasn’t convinced that wasn’t what had indeed happened, but it was the height of foolishness to take the Ministry or the Prophet at its word these days. (Had it ever not been?) Upon arrival in Hogsmeade Hermione hurried out to the Shrieking Shack, also wearing a cardigan (sage green, no adornments) both to avoid attention for the mark on her arm and to fend off the highland chill that never seemed to dissipate to a southerner like Hermione. Although two redheads were waiting by the sign instead of just one, she was familiar enough with Luna’s disguises to recognise that this was her group. That, and no one else was around. “Afternoon,” she said as she approached, one hand in the pocket that held her wand. Just in case. “Shall we go? I don’t think we should be out in the open for too long.” === Luna beamed as Ginny approached. "You're right, it does look quite curious, doesn't it? it's often thought that those with red hair have fiery tempers and sharp tongues, which you do have, but I don't think it accurately describes me. Another supposed trait is that they are libidinous," she said peering at Ginny with a tilted head and a small squint. "I suppose that does fit too." She smiled at Ginny's joke, looking out over the path towards the village, and stood up from the sign as Hermione herself arrived. "Good afternoon, Hermione." Nodding, she fell in step with the girls as they headed towards the castle. "No, you are right. Two Suspected Terrorists would be quite enough to raise suspicion, wouldn't it?" Her steps were light as they walked, but her thoughts were on the possibilities of where McGonagall could be. She did hope she was okay. "If Headmistress McGonagall had taken ill with something quite contagious, are there secure wards within St Mungo's that she might have been held in? It does seem strange that none of the Healers had any idea that she was there considering the article?" |
